Great food, sandwiches, pastries, jams, etc. We are sorry to hear they have closed for good. We read in the local paper the owner will be doing catering only.

Fresh quality food. I have been craving the salad for days since I ordered it here. Small and homey feeling. But the food is to die for. Cute canning and pickled items available for purchase also. Will be back

Off the beaten path but worth the effort to get there. I had the Portabella Mushroom sandwich Portabella brushed with garlic olive oil and balsamic vinegar, roasted red bell peppers, provolone cheese and Parmesan sourdough bread with wasabi Mayo on the side. I savored every bite. My husband had the Reuben sandwich and found it very tasty. We came back to buy pickled beets, garlic pickles, sauerkraut, jam and apple pastry. When we tried the beets at our timeshare we were delighted with them. When we stopped to buy the items mentioned above the café was actually closed but Mike Moessner opened for us. I thought that was very kind of him.

Had a wonderful fresh and tasty lunch. I picked up a jar of their pickles, OMG, so good. Very cool place. If you are in the area give it a try you won’t be disappointed.

Highly recommend! I cannot say enough about this gem. From the friendly service, the charming and inviting country atmosphere, to the incredibly tasty food, I fell in love with this place. Mom and I ordered the vegetable sandwich, turkey sandwich, cranberry wasabi(ridiculous combo!), and tomato soup(rich as a bisque but with no added cream). I was completely impressed with the quality of the ingredients and robust flavors. Delicious and comforting. Come support these folks and you will see what I mean. Big thank you to the Moessner Family for their warm welcome and fantastic lunch! **They sell a plethora of butters(Apple, pumpkin, peach, etc.), jams(watermelon, white nectar, peach habanero, pluot, raspberry, orange marmalade, etc.), ratatouille, tomato soup, pickled cucumbers, habanero ketchup, etc. My mom would’ve bought the entire store if we stayed any longer. **Baked goodies were simple yet memorable and delicious! We had the apple pastry and shortbread cookies with pluot centers(seriously those cookies though.!).

Prior to our trip out to RB orchard, we stopped by this gem to grab some lunch. After reading all of the glowing reviews, I was so excited to take my hubs here and so happy we did! This place is kinda out of the way and away from shopping centers, which makes this place so quaint. Since we had never been here before, we were using google maps on my phone. Part way there, reception crapped out but thankfully came back in time to let me know where to turn. Because it’s a two way road and people like to speed, it’s a good idea to turn your signal on early. Once you enter the restaurant, you have the option of sitting wherever you’d like. We chose the high top tables, surrounded by a variety of jams, butter and much more. When we were seated, the wife(I think) brought us a couple menus. Since we got there after the lunch rush hour, our food came out pretty quick. We had just enough time to look around to see what sort of jams and other delicious items to get and when we got back to our table, our food was on it’s way! I ordered the turkey harvest, which comes with turkey, caramelized onions and apples, and a side of wasabi mayo. Since I don’t like wasabi, I asked for the chipotle mayo. The sandwich was absolutely delicious and so fresh! I was also given an option of soup, salad or mac salad and chose the tomato soup. I couldn’t believe at how fresh and tasty the soup was! It reminded me of Panera Breads tomato basil soup, but without the heaviness of the cream. Along with the jams, butter, pickled veggies, they also sell their tomato soup and of course, put the ingredients of everything on the jars. My hubs ordered the pastrami sandwich with a side of mac salad, which was pretty good. It wasn’t Zingermann’s pastrami sandwich, but overall our meal was pretty good, filling and best of all, fresh! They also sell a bundle of lavender for $ 2 that is straight from their yard. I wish I would’ve gotten more, but am so happy they aren’t too too far away from us. I can’t wait to come back and try some of their other sandwiches!

Stopped in after seeing the wonderful Unilocal reviews… so glad we did. Anything the place lacks in décor, it makes up in attention to homemade goodness and fresh ingredients. we had tomato soup that tasted like tomatoes picked fresh off the vine. The pastrami sandwich served with sauerkraut was warm, gooey and flavorful. The portobello mushroom sandwich served with roasted bell peppers was super delicious. The Wasabi mayonnaise served on the side was a treat. All of the bread melted in your mouth. We also indulged in some apple cake which was yummy too. We bought several jars of jam and pickled things to enjoy at home later that we can’t wait to try. The restaurant is off the beaten path from downtown Tahachapi but definitely worth the drive!

My girlfriend and I stopped here for lunch. I had the Malibu ham with a side salad. The sandwich was delicious and filling, the staff were very friendly and nice, and my salad was topped with bright red, perfect red tomato. Like, clearly vine-ripened, real fresh tomato. Thanks for pointing this place out, Unilocalers!

Love going here. Takes your you back to a simpler time. Great place to stock up on homemade jellies, pickles, sauerkraut and more! Love their Apricot Danish. Food is fresh and you can taste it. They grow their own veggies, so need I say more. Great place to relax.

Delicious! Cute country atmosphere, friendly staff & great food! Treat yourself to an apple turnover(puff)! My only regret is that I split the turnover with my husband, I wish I would have had a whole one to myself!

We have been meaning to go here for ages! Wow! I had the Harvest Turkey Melt and I am ready for another tomorrow. Wonderful texture, layers of flavors, quality ingredients and served with a cranberry, wasabi mayonaise. It came with a unique macaroni salad. This is no ordinary lunch place. My husband had the Portabello Mushroom, he’s ready for another one also. The price is very resonable. A must go to. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 — 5.

This little find was great! I drove to Tehachapi with my Uncle to go apple picking and I decided to take our lunch fate into my own hands. I was scanning places, all of which seemed a bit sketchy for such a small town.(No offense tiny town America, but I don’t do sushi when I only see 10 people wandering the streets.) Needless to say we found this place on our apple picking map and it ended up being great! Tasty sandwiches and side salads. So fresh, so original. I had the pastrami(they were out of my first choice: roast beef) and it was great! I mean I have had better but it had some kind of spicy mayo on it I think? And I never say no to spicy. My Uncle had the Bratwurst. He seemed to like it. But I never know with that guy. I ordered the pasta salad with my meal because other reviewers seemed to like it. It was alright, but I detected some celery flavor and I hate celery! But I won’t mark them down because I happen to be so weird. All in all a great restaurant after a great day!

By far the best sandwiches in Tehachapi, even if it is a bit out of town. A perfect stop for lunch while wine tasting at the two local vineyards or checking out the ostrich ranch or Horse Thief Golf Course or even Woodward West — which are all on Moessner’s side of town. And don’t forget to buy some of Moessner’s fabulous tomato soup or other canned goods produced on site that line the walls of the shop. Great pastries, jams, chutneys. And in the summer fresh tomatoes, onions and garlic can be found for purchase. Definitely worth a stop and if you go on a Saturday in summer you can hit Grimmway’s organic produce shed on your way in or out for watermelons, carrots, lettuce, spinach, etc. It’s on the corner of Cummings Valley and Bear Valley. Moessner will be the highlight of this day trip, though!

I’ve eaten from here about three times and I’ve only had the pastrami sandwich, pasta salad, spicey garlic pickles, and their chocolate chip cookies. All are excellent! I would recommend eating there with family that are from out of town to experience one of the hidden food treasures in Tehachapi. Nothing fancy about this place… just good food.

Wow. W.O.W. Let me preface this by saying that I have spent the past few months in Tehachapi and am pretty discerning about where I give five stars. I have spent way too much time in really mediocre places in Tehachapi(to mention a few, Konens German Bakery, King Siam Thai, The Apple Shed). These places really suck. Konens has no idea how to make a sandwich. I nearly gave up, until I discovered Moessner’s. It is really a shame they’re only open Friday-Sunday. Their sandwiches are incredible. I had Roast beef, a real reinterpretation on the traditional roast beef, with habanero chili, pepper jack cheese, very thinly sliced roast beef. I also had the Tomato Mozarella, with the most delicate flavor of melted mozzarella(although fresh mozzarella would have been better) and fresh vine ripened tomato with basil and olive oil. The sandwiches come with the most delicately seasoned pasta salad(honestly, I have never had such tasty and light pasta salad!) Their fruit puffs are divine as well. I particularly like the blueberry, but any flavor is good. Likewise for their turnovers, apple and peach. I am waiting to taste the homemade apple and strawberry apple pies(8.50 a pie! what a deal!!). I hear they are a hit at the Farmers Market in Santa Monica as well. What a gem. Don’t miss this place if you go to Tehachapi.(You can compliment it with a trip to the Souza Family Winery, or the Triassic Winery which is across the street — haven’t been there yet though, so I can’t vouch for the place).
