The salmon is amazing. Super high quality. Very fatty and plenty of texture. Very fresh. Superb! What an amazing extremely authentic Japanese run sushi joint. One of the very few places that actually always has salmon toro on the menu. Master Sushi Chef Seiki is an extremely talented and very personable sushi chef & is meticulous in his craft. Very unfortunate he did not renew his lease in Teaneck due to it being to expensive. From what I hear he is looking for a new location. Hopefully he reopens soon as his sushi ranks easily in the top 5 best, best cut and freshest in North NJ if not the entire state.

Roger and I were eating up the street very often at one our favorites… any1 who follows us knows we’re addicted to korean chicken like crack– lol SeikiSan has prolly the freshest and best sushi in north Jersey. His only competition at all is Masa in Allendale… or or Sakura in Ridgewood. Seiki’s is DEF Japanese run, had some interesting specials, and always makes bangin food!!! We love the special spt roll! All the tuna served is HIGH quality bigeeye tuna. Its… different if u get the bigeye as sushi or sashami– get the maguro for those if ya can. On rare occassion he will have Toro… but his passion for freshness limits the use of tori to its ethical legal season. We’ve been going for months almost every weekend, and it hasnt been on the menu once. Seiki is very popular for his Omakase, which pretty much involves you and your party dumping some cash down and saying basics of what you like, and leave it to the chef!!! If you sit at the bar and he has a second to slow down and breathe,., we tend to go on weekend nights around 8:30/9 so the rush is over and we can have a quiet meal, and chat up our favorite sushi chef. He always recognizes us now cuz I have multiple hats who’s brand is called«nasty pig». I’m not sure he knows what the brand is, but he finds it pretty funny…, I think like many other ppl not in the know that he thinks its a bbq restaurant or something. hehe When we go into this place, the employees auto-recognise us, and immediately know what we want and give it to us w great politeness and quickness. The atmosphere in the main room is pretty non-discript a small sushi bar and some tables. Through the side door tho there is a nice lounge area with leather seats, a huge big screen tv, Right next door there is a VERY temping yakitori joint, it smells great. If you go into there, you can actually order the sushi from seikis, or if you go into seikis, they serve the wings from the yaki joint and ther are awesome! Onto the food. Perfect Fish– as I said b4, I’d try almost anything there. Seiki has given me a taste of hamachi that literally has made me consumed w trying new kids, and has successfully hooked my man and I on the salmon toro. Seriously… TRYTHEDAMNSEAREDSALMONTORO! It’s def not Tuna toro, but its like having the most tender and buttery salmon u ever had, and hell, this places plain salmon is even fn awesome. always nice n fatty! The SPT roll is a must. It is bigeye tuna, wrapped inside out w plain and toasted ssesame on the outside and tempura flake for crunch. It also comes w avocado, being as I HATE avocodo to death, they make it for us w cucumber. It’s just SO good. Otherwise we’ve had and loved his smoked freshwater eel, the octupus, the snow crab, the small omlette, the squid special w quail egg is delicious, The wings they run over from yakitori next door… are great. Have never had other wings like that. Oh, did I mention he makes HISOWN soy sauce? and it is good– and he also grinds some nice fresh wasabe and self pickled ginger n other goodies! It seriously upsets us tho that we were notified last weekend, that he would not be renewing his lease at his current location and doesnt have a new one yet, Guys, CHECKTHISPLACEOUTB4THEENDOFOCTOBER!!! You wont be disappointed, ESP if u go for the half price nigiri night, and just sit there and much, watch tv at the bar, and talk it up with all the other Japanese patrons(Roger and I tend to be the only non-asians that habitually show up at late hours) Seiki himself is a great guy to talk to. He has a very good sense of humor and def makes every1 feel welcome. He is a perfectionist… and usually we sit at the bar, and nothing imperfect makes it past this man, his attention to minute detail is amazing! and it would be a damn shame to lose him entirely due to lease availability! I really hope he opens in a nice town w a good downtown like Ridgewood, Paramus, Maywood… hell even hackensack. His immaculate fish is too good to miss for too long! :( And to Seiki, if you are checking your reviews or having an employee do it, we’d like to say… and please excuse the prolly horrible grammar, I had to use google, but: «Misutā seiki. Watashi-tachi wa anata no tabemono ga daisukidesu. You will be greatly missed until u open a new place, Seiki! We will def be in before closing, and hope we will get on a list for emails n stuff, any1 who follows us know we are very loyal to our small businesses that just make our communities and quaint down towns into little hidden hoards of amazing food, and not generic, mediocre crap from corporations– Def Def Def check seiki out while you can everyone! Bring any1 who loves sushi move your butt

Nice selection Of Quality Fish Pricey But Good Not A Fan Of The Plating Lounge Zen Seiki’s Sushi is in somewhat of a nondescript location and lacking in the lounge atmosphere the signage would indicate. The Japanese chef here is trying to appeal to a broad audience, I suspect he could do much better as it caters to the western palate with all the adulterating of the fish. With Yakitori 39 next door the choice is always the door on the left for yakitori. What bothers me here is the portions are small and the plating too pretentious, the traditional style of plating is less about the plate and more about the arraignment of the fish on it. This is considered part of the art of sushi and seemingly lost here, shame that the owners chose this«fusion’ direction. The fish is nice, very good knife skills are evident and the rice is cooked and seasoned well, however the place lacks any character so it’s hard to settle in at Lounge Zen Seiki. Wasn’t feeling the zen.

The half-off sushi is for Sunday dinner only.(I get a chuckle whenever I write/say half because of Eddie Murphy’s Raw– HALF, EDDIE! — btw, if you know this reference, u r old, just like me– lol, ha ha, and sigh). Also, this discount only applies to nigiri sushi. Full price on the rolls. Oh well. The sushi, however, was good. Was it the most amazing sushi I’ve had. No. But the fish was pretty good in quality and freshness. This is the little tip/trick. Want to know if the restaurant’s fish is fresh? Well then, you must eat the mackerel sushi. If the mackerel is tasty, then you know that the fish is fresh and that the sushi chef knows what he/she is doing. Often, mackerel sushi is funky. Even with the crushed ginger and scallions on top. Here, the mackerel was good. No hint of funkiness. The interior is generic and sparse. But that is how most sushi joints are decorated. And I believe they share their kitchen with Yakitori 19, which is the restaurant next door. So I think you can order yakitori and other cooked items from their kitchen. Service was fine. But the best part was the bill, which was very kind b/c of the half-off. 30 bucks w/tip for a decent sushi dinner for two.

Yea the sushi was good. Nothing out of the ordinary though. And not worth the cost. 2 small rolls. a couple miso soups and one of their cheapest bottles of sake… your looking at a 70 dollar snack.(tip included) Defiantly not a place you want to go to if your are hungry. Unless you have a-lot of money to spend. Considering the rolls are small. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed. And they defiantly cater more to an american crowd then anything els. Spicy mayo sauce on this. crunchy fried shaving on that. Place is run by a sushi chef and I was privileged enough to have an inexperienced high school student as my server. He(the sushi chef) thought i was looking for the chicken place next door when i walked in… i told him. no i just want sushi. There was very much confusion… as The place was empty when I walked in and he didn’t speak much of English… I guess they don’t do much business at the time i went… Which i believe was a normal dinner time.

Sushi was fresh and good, but a little on the pricey side for what you get. Sushi: Salmon(was a bit fishy and on the mushy side) Tuna(not bad) Ikura(very fresh and good flavor) Yellow tail(good) Fresh scallop(fresh and tasted good) Sushi roll Salmon and Avocado: avacado was fresh and good flavor, but it overpowered the salmon and could barely taste it. You know a good sushi restaurant if the rice tastes good. The rice was ok, but not great. The rice under the sushi would fall apart, the flavor of the rice itself was just ok This place is decent, but for what you pay not sure if I would return
