Okay, I had previously reviewed this place poorly. My first experience was awful. Gave this restaurant a second shot out of boredom. Not to bad complete different experience than last time. Food was better, also gumbo appetizer was HUGE! We were there the day of the republican debate and it was late probably around 9:30 on a weekday. They let us move closer to the television and turn it up. Waitress was super friendly and efficient. May try again. Not bad. Not to die for either.

Bad customer service manager is worthless waited 20 minutes to be seated only to be told to seat ourselves. Party of 4, sat waited 20 minutes for menus had to find a waitress for the menus finally took order was served drinks and salads but waited an hour and half where had to find waitress because she never checked back to see where food was. Her excuse they were busy and someone must have moved our ticket. Asked another waitress to speak with manager, she came back said our waitress told the manager our food was going out right then. 1 hour 45 minutes later. Seafood is not fresh it is frozen with heavy salty batter scallops have no taste shrimp ok only good food was the Cole slaw and baked potato. Confronted the waitress she kept making excuses that the other waitresses put their tickets in front of hers. Asked for the manager. The manager is useless. She apologized then blamed the waitress told us the waitress didn’t turn in our ticket until we complained and the she would deal her and offered us a WOW10% discount. DONOTEATHERE.

All I can say is disgusting. I found a roach in my étouffée. Before this I had eaten there a few times and the food was okay but not great by any means. I know a few people that love it and I just don’t see it. I have tried serveral different things on the menu and nothing has really grabbed my attention via my taste buds. It has all just been edible up until the point of the roach. I now refuse to eat there. Ever.

The service has gotten a little better slowly, and the food is still delicious as ever. Now is a good time to stop in for a pork chop :)

Blandish food, and my servers always seem to be a little bit startled to find themselves in the building. Basic questions are met with surprised stares, suggestions are terse, and I just get the feeling waitstaff would rather be anywhere but here. When your food is mediocre at best, you’d better up your serving game.

Passing through town looking for a place to eat, noticed quite a few cars so decided to stop. We were seated promptly and placed our order and got our tea, everything went downhill after that. Our food arrived almost 30 minutes later and was not even hot. We asked for refills on our tea, the waitress took our glasses and we still don’t have our tea. We asked 2 other employees for tea, never arrived. My husband ordered the shrimp and oyster plate, he took a bite of the lukewarm oyster and it tasted sour. The shrimp were ok. I order a stuffed crab, a fried red snapper and baked potato. They were ok. Decided we were done, waited several minutes before anyone noticed we were at the register. The girl told us she knew we weren’t happy and we told her our experience, she said she would talk to the manager. 5 minutes later she came back and told us our waitress was coming with our ticket with adjustments. We were charged for for a crab plate, not a single stuffed crab, she had to go back to get it adjusted again. 15 minutes later, we were finally in our way home. Do not recommend this place.

Servers were friendly. Went on Valentine’s Day & expected that it would be crowded, it was not. Huge chicken fried steaks, the shrimp was delicious & my baked potato was very good too. The tea was awful, but it’s made with Taylor water, so that’s not surprising. Prices were reasonable. Pretty good little place!

I give it a 1 star, because I can’t give it zero… Overpriced for what you get. The quality is bad. There was hair in my food and nothing was done, not even money off my meal. Never again… Horrid.

I have been here a few times, and it’s been with family wanting to go there. They have a pretty large menu. A lot of it is fried though. If you want to sub fries for a baked potato, it’s $ 2.00 extra. Not much is under $ 10 unless you get a hamburger. I’m not thrilled with this place, but if you are tired of Mexican food this might be a nice change in Taylor.

We have been there twice & it was great both times. It is under new management, so give it another try. When you drive up you will notice the B in Baylor is askew. We were told that Baylor University requested they change their name. Try it. You will like it.

Older reviews on here for Taylor Seafood & Steak but I think the name changed to Baylor Seafood & Steak. I’ve dined at this locale 3 – 4 times over the recent years. It’s got a very large menu selection, which means there is a tendency to over promise as far as good prep. Decent prices with large portions of catfish, but the food is just not worth the wait. There are other restaurants in town that value service and good food prep more. If you want inexpensive and«more miss than a hit» — then you’ve hit the penny slots with this one.

I went there for lunch on 4−23−12. I should have known something was wrong when the parking lot was empty at 12:10PM. There were two tables occupied in the restaurant, a couple at one, a man by himself at the other. I sat down and ordered a tea to drink while I read the menu. My spidey sense went off when I saw the size of the menu. Way to many items for everything to be done well, or use fresh ingredients. I ordered the catfish and shrimp lunch plate. 1 catfish piece and 6 fried shrimp, with fries and a salad. The salad came out first. Chunks of iceberg lettuce with carrot strips on top and one wedge of tomato. Tasteless as well as the ranch dressing that came on the side. I go the main meal, and a pretty long wait for how slow they were. The breading for the shrimp has no flavor at all. The catfish must come frozen from Mrs Paul’s. The cocktail sauce has a sesame chili sauce to it. it might be good on some items, but if you are doing fried catfish in Central Texas don’t try to have one sauce be an Asian fusion item. The tarter sauce is good, the server told me both are made in house. The cook needs to go back to horseradish and ketchup for the cocktail sauce. If I owned this place I get rid of 2/3’s of the menu and do the remaining very well. Get a breading that has some taste and screams southern cooking. And selling more of the fewer items means you can use fresh items without them going bad instead of prebreaded frozen items.

When they opened the Oysters were on the half shell and great! Now they come thrown on ice and they smell awful. I tasted one but was scared of it so I sent them back. I ordered a steak; the worst quality steak Ive ever had. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak and it tasted like hardened paste. I noticed Fried Rice on the menu and know the owner is Asian. Look, if youre going to make Chinese food, do it. God knows Taylor needs some good Chinese or pan-Asian food. I would love to see some Mee Goreng, or even Phở. How about Sushi that isnt the exact texture of a Hockey Puck(China One). If you do steak and seafood in hopes to be the best in town(waitstaff T-shirts) PLEASE kick up the quality and freshness. What a total disappointment.

I have been to this place 2 times now, and its pretty good. The first time I had a fried seafood platter with catfish, shrimp, and crawfish. It was more food than I could eat, but it was pretty good. The catfish was not as flavorfull as I would have liked. The second time I went, i got popcorn shrimp with 2 sides. They were really big for popcorn shrimp, and taste great. The fries were good also, but the dirty rice, while tasted ok, was not dirty rice. Maybe I could give them a better recipe for that. The staff was super friendly and attentive both times I went.

Thirty miles from home but always worth the drive. You wouldn’t guess from the outside, but this is a great place for shrimp, oysters, scallops, calamari and steak. I had the sirloin and shrimp special today. Last week I had the fried shrimp special with over 15 large butterflied shrimp. The price is very reasonable. A good reason to go to Taylor!

I again must call a Taylor diner average. I am telling you that the people of Taylor do not know good food. They think just about every restaurant in town is really good and they just aren’t. Catfish Parlour in Georgetown is really good and I will either drive there or skip Catfish before going to Taylor Seafood & Steak. I have had their fish and shrimp and it is average or below. I don’t go out to eat average or below I go out for good food. I can cook my own average or below meals. I don’t think I have ever got there steak but I have been 2 at the most 3 times and have never been very pleased so I haven’t been back since. Just save your money and find another place.
