I recently visited the Keys with my girlfriend and happened to wander into the bike shop. We just wanted to rent bikes for the day and explore a few islands. They provided us a map, recommendations for local sites(beach, art gallery, etc.) that were spot on. Seriously this was a gem! We both commented on how the bike shop was exactly what we were looking for, very luck to stumble across it. One of the owners, Mark, chatted with us upon our return and even had cold beers waiting for us. Really interesting guy, I imagine he’d be a lot of fun for a longer ride.

Not impressed with this place at all. Shop was a mess and bathroom was disgusting. Not that it mattered since the toilet was taped over and looked to be out of order for quite a long time. As a guy, I have other options. My wife, however, was pretty annoyed by the whole thing. And, weirdly, I couldn’t buy a water bottle there. Doesn’t every shop on the planet sell them with their logo on them? We rented two Jamis road bikes and when they were new, they were good bikes — on this trip, not so good. They weren’t well maintained, hadn’t been cleaned in many, many miles, and had rust on many parts. I’ve worked in several bike shops as a mechanic and the REI rental department, and I can tell you, showing a complete disregard for your rental bikes is a great recipe for tourists being stranded in the middle of nowhere or worse, a bad crash. It’s not that hard to maintain these things people! I don’t think the shop is really open during the day — I think they just show up when people rent bikes. I get that it’s more about tours than selling bikes or accessories, but crappy bikes and no toilet or clean area to change clothes does not add up to a positive experience. My advice, stick to the beach cruisers and have them delivered to you. Avoid the shop altogether. Or better yet, look for an alternative company.

When I considered a bike ride through the keys, I thought it’s an easy, one strip of asphalt and flat trip. Then I remembered I’d be crossing the Seven-Mile Bridge on my own and I was scared.(I probably shouldn’t have watched the YouTube video.). I contacted Key Largo Bicycle and they suggested the guided two-day ride. I initially balked at the price; however, when I weighed their experience, support on the ride and safety in numbers, it was worth every dime I paid. I had a great experience both days, with Cammie as my guide the first day and Mark the second day. The side trips were fun(I learned how to paddle board and saw TV filming locations) and they know how to navigate. What I originally dismissed as a single strip of asphalt can be tricky, and they know when to take bike paths and make other detours. There were enough rest stops where I didn’t feel like we were stopping too much; plus, I got to eat along the way. If you’re planning to see the keys, a bicycle is a great way to experience them. I highly recommend Key Largo Bicycle to take care of the details and provide support. I had a fantastic experience!

One of the only bike rental companies to respond to my email before we arrived. They also have an active Facebook page which is nice. Delivered a road bike & cruiser to Marathon for us for a week long rental. I’m pretty sure we ended up with a free day too. Awesome professional service and good quality bikes! Update, forgot to mention I am tall 6’4″. It was hard to find a large road bike down in the keys. Key Largo Bike was able to provide a 61 cm Jamis Ventura bike for me that fit very well.

I discovered Key Largo Bike Tours accidentally. I was searching for a bike rental company, close to the Miami airport. My plan was to fly in, taxi to the rental co., and take off on a solo bike trip to Key West. It turned out that KLBT had a package perfectly suited for my needs. The owner, Mark Terrill, explained that he would pick me up at MIA, take me to a hotel, fit me to the bike, installed my pedals, and transport my bag to Key West, where I would drop off the bike & get my bag! How great is that?! And for a reasonable price. Mark could not have been more professional and accommodating. WELLDONEMARK!
