Fried chicken is fabulous. I ignore the drab atmosphere to get it. They’re just a touch slow and the servers are nice but don’t say much. The sides are okay. It’s worth going to for the fried chicken. Seriously. I come through here from Tampa once/twice a month and always stop.

I went for the first time for lunch a few weeks ago and overall enjoyed the food. The place it’s self is very simple with booths, tables, and chairs. Could be more clean as far as dust, dead flies/gnats by the windows, and attention to the restrooms. At the time I went it wasn’t very many people there, about 4 others at one time. Service was ok, not the best nor the worst. Employees seem real laid back and nonchalant. The food was great. I got a fried pork chop, mac and cheese, collard greens, and sweet potatoes. The pork chop was fried just right and it was a large thick cut. I’m originally from Nashville and I was brought up on soul food. With that said, everything I ate down to the cornbread made me feel like I was back at home. Whenever I’m in Tavares again, I’ll be back by to get me something else to eat.

I hate to write negative reviews because everyone is trying to put out the best product they can. But I also believe in honesty. So I’m going to try and be fair. Even though this place is family owned and operated and they do a good business. The BBQ just wasn’t for me. The mashed potatoes tasted like cafeteria. The mac and cheese was bland and I didn’t finish it. The ribs were ok. But the sauce was too ketchup like. I understand now that everyone has their own tastes when it comes to BBQ. And you may love their sauce and style. But everything was just very plain and bland tasting to me and I probably won’t go back. I’m sorry. I still hope they have great success. It’s just not for me.

We had the brisket and fried chicken. Both were delicious. We also had collards, fried okra which were excellent, corn muffins were like a dessert Lima beans were good. We will go back again, the only thing lacking is the atmosphere and it was a little pricey.

The food is average at best, orders take too long, the prices are high compared to the portions being served, & customer service is lacking. After calling to inquire about receiving one flat(turkey wing), rice, lima beans & a muffing for $ 16, the person who answered told me that’s the«normal» portion & hung up after I voiced my displeasure. To be fair the BBQ chicken was well prepared but the sides that I had, mac & cheese & baked beans, left a lot to be desired. The oxtails could’ve been cooked a little longer but the seasonings was right on point. I feel the reasturant has potential but has to pay attention to the details.

I love southern food and bbq, and found this be heaven by chance… Ribs are the best I’ve ever had… tasty and falling off the bone. Corn news is home made and delicious. Collard greens are not too cooked and perfect. And mash potatoes were excellent /not too heavy with great tasting gravy. People are very nice too! Only regret is that it is too far for me to come back again! I’ll miss it!

Service was great(although we were the only table in the restaraunt, they said it was slow cause of the rain). I had the smothered pork. Portion was huge, two chops. It was good if you like hot sauce, because it was apparent it was in the batter, which I liked. Greens were very good as well. Mac and cheese was extremely disappointing. My wife had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was dry but the skin(I think it was dry batter) was well as the waffle. We will come back and try other dishes.

The food was pretty good. I had the pulled pork sandwich with fries. The sauce was good and the fries were perfect. I was surprised by the service and atmosphere. Service was slacking even by Lake county standards and some of the music was questionable. I would consider a to-go order in the future.

Excellent food. Some of the best fried chicken I’ve had. The pulled pork and brisket are also very good. Highly recommended!

I’ve tried many BBQ places, but this one marked me good ! Although it’s a little to pricy, it’s worth it. Pulled pork sandwich is awesome, big and tasty I would defiantly recommend this place and totally come back. Make sure to come try it, don’t take my word for it, find out for your self. You’ll be amazed!

I am not a big fan of fried chicken in general, but Angel’s is the one I will make an exception for! Crispy, perfectly breaded and moist, with a bit of a peppery bite, it’s perfect. Their macaroni and cheese, green beans and collards are excellent, too. And even though their pound cake is delicious, you could easily just eat another corn muffin for dessert. Im not sure what they put in them, but… yum. We first started going there for lunch when they were on Old 441 near Mount Dora, but now they’ve moved across the street from my office and it’s just plain dangerous! Check your diet at the door…

On my first visit, I tried the brisket sandwich. Came with one side, I chose slaw. Its was tasty, and the meat was outstanding. A lil fatty for my liking, but easily remedied. Their in house sauce is GREAT. Hint of molasses and cinnamon I think… with a lil bite at the end. I look forward to tryin more of the menu. Also somewhat intrigued by the DJ equipment and very nice TV on the wall. Ill be watchin for more from this place. Angel’s Soul Food and BBQ, YUP, Ill be back !
