Really — if you can’t find something on this menu to eat — you’re crazy! The menu is incredibly varied! «But how’s the food?» Amazing! Absolutely homemade, tasty, and portion size is a perfect value. The prices are reasonable! The service is kind, respectful, fast, friendly and right on point. We went to other restaurants in the area. Our mistake for not making reservations, however, there is no need to be snobby and condescending about that mistake. Michaels has all you need. The pastries are spectacular! The sopapillas are huge and out of this world. When in Taos — eat at Michaels!

Best donuts in New Mexico. My daughter and I love to go and get the Eclairs. Love that Michaels kitchen bakes fresh donuts. Only donut shop in Taos. Just writing about it makes me want to get a donut at Michaels kitchen, tomorrow.

We came here for lunch while visiting Taos for the day. I was starving and freezing so we came here and the place was packed! That’s always a good sign that the food is yummy. I ordered the red chili bowl and it hit the spot! It’s a lot of food so go easy on the appetizers. We had a table of eight people and the rest were starting to get hungry, but I needed food ASAP so we ordered chips with salsa and guacamole, which that was a meal in and of itself. If I’m ever back in the area I would come back here again to check out their breakfast foods.

Michael’s never disappoints. Stopped through Taos several years ago and ate here for the first time. Now it’s a must when returning to this lovely town. Purchased their giant cinnamon rolls for breakfasts during our ski stay and ate here as the first meal during our vacation. Had the daily special burrito with Chorizo, Egg, Cheese, Hash browns and their signature green chile. Absolutely delicious. And don’t forget the Sopapillas with sweet butter and honey. A definite stop you’ll have to make, even if just passing through.

The first time we have eaten here food was given in vast quantity. The quality was up there as well. No room was left for dessert.

I grew up in Taos, and visiting back there this week bright back a lot of memories. I was happy to see that this place hasn’t changed. I used to get«pigs in a blanket» as a little girl and an occasional chocolate éclair. Yum! This time I had a veggie omelette and a nice warm fresh and very tasty sopapilla. What a treat! We all were very happy with the breakfast and service! Was a great experience overall. :-)

When we arrived there was a line out the door. We didn’t have time to wait, but figured it must be good! So we returned the next day when we had more time, again the line was out the door. The wait wasn’t bad, and the staff was friendly and working hard to turn tables. The food was delicious and we ordered both breakfast and lunch items at our table. We then stopped at the bakery counter and got some yummy donuts and cookies to take with us. They were all delicious. We would go here again.

Tourist trap. After reading the reviews my family and I decided to give it a try: we thought we have gone to a different restaurant to the one described in the reviews. The food was horrible: old cold French fries, frozen chicken soup and tasteless dishes. It does not taste fresh. Literally uneatable. Service seems tired and not very friendly including the cashier who tried to multitask with no success at any of the tasks: 3 transactions in 12 minutes! People who have been going there for«generations» do not know what they are missing with so many choices nearby.

Atole pancakes with toasted pinion, dusted with powdered sugar, a bit of butter, a splash of maple syrup and that capped another quick road trip to NM! I could only eat one but my Dad was really happy to take the remainder home for a ready-made, delicious breakfast tomorrow! Hubs had huevos rancheros which he said were fabulous and one of the best he’s had(so far) on our road trips here so far. Staff were friendly and helpful and service fast. Their cream puffs were huge — huuuuuuuuggggge! Dad enjoyed biscuits which are comfort food items made extraordinary by magical chefs in the kitchen. We could live in Michael’s Kitchen, quite literally.

Bring your appetite when coming to dine here! The food is delicious and the portion sizes are generous. We ate here while taking a day trip to Taos and the line that was out of the door should have been our first clue on how good the food is(we waited in line for 20 – 30 minutes). I ordered the 3 combo plate, which consisted of a beef enchilada, chicken taco, and a chile rellenos. It included rice and beans as well. The food was authentic, freshly made, and the sauce on the enchiladas was clearly homemade and not out of a can. My hubby ordered the Indian taco and he loved it! The sopapillas and honey butter are freaking amazing and a must try. The service was really good. Fast, friendly, and we had at least 3 people serving us. We will definitely go again when in Taos.

I felt the need to update my previous review when my husband and I found ourselves back at Michael’s Kitchen before we left Taos. We weren’t planning on going back to dine in, but the wedding party invited us to meet them for brunch there, and we wanted to say goodbye to our friends before leaving town. This time, since it was earlier in the day, we chose to order breakfast. Since I wasn’t impressed with the green chile last time, I ordered the Viva la French toast platter, which included an egg and a choice of bacon or sausage(I chose the latter). My husband ordered the plate of hash browns with cheese and vegetarian green chile(because despite our disappointment with the chopped green chile the other day, he insisted that when he had eaten here 17 years ago, the chile sauce really was good) and a side of bacon. To my surprise, our food was excellent this time. Okay, so French toast is pretty hard to screw up(that’s one reason why I decided to order it, the other is that I love French toast), but I loved that they used their cinnamon raisin bread for the toast. Their breakfast sausage was delicious! The green chile sauce on my husband’s hash browns was flavorful and had a good kick to it. I know that chopped green chile like they use on the sandwiches and burgers is different than green chile sauce, but I would expect them to use the same quality of chile for both. Seriously, it was like we were eating at a different restaurant. The difference between night and day — literally! Even though our second meal was much more satisfactory, there are still a few things that almost kept me from increasing my star rating. Maybe on our first visit for dinner, they were having an off night, but the drastic difference in quality from dinner to breakfast two days later seems to indicate that their food is not always consistent. Maybe they shine when it comes to breakfast foods and New Mexican dishes, but not so much when it comes to other things. I mentioned in my earlier review that their menu is huge. While it’s great to be able to offer a large variety of items, it might not be worth it to have such a large menu unless they can offer the same quality of food across the board. In some cases, it might be better to scale back the menu a little and focus on their strengths, instead of diners getting a 50⁄50 chance that the item they select will either be excellent or mediocre. And as good as our breakfast was, there were still a few minor issues. My husband had to keep asking for refills on his coffee, he was never offered one. I ordered my egg over easy because I prefer the yolk runny, and it came over hard and not runny at all. I’m not too picky with my eggs and I’ll eat them however(the only way I don’t really care for is scrambled), so it wasn’t anything worth making a fuss over. Also, I thought the prices were a little high for what it was, but I realize that it might just have to do with being in Taos and the prices tend to be a little higher here in general. But my husband’s plate of hash browns was around $ 8.00, and while the portion was very large(he couldn’t finish it), it was just hash browns, chile and cheese, so I couldn’t quite justify the price. The side of four bacon strips was $ 3.50, and though the bacon was very good, essentially we paid nearly $ 12.00 for hash browns and bacon. Also, I don’t drink coffee, so I ordered orange juice with my breakfast. The glass of juice they brought me was so small it could have been a kid’s size juice, but they didn’t offer me a size choice, and the waitress took our drink order before we had a chance to even glance at the menu to see if any other size was offered, so assumed there wasn’t. Yet when we received the bill, I was charged $ 3.50 for a «large» orange juice. Needless to say, I was a little taken aback. I understand that orange juice, even if it’s fresh squeezed, isn’t dirt cheap, but come on! Thank goodness I didn’t order a second glass for an additional charge(I almost did since the first one was so small and I was still thirsty, but I decided against it and just got water). I should have made sure to look at the menu price or ask the waitress the price before ordering it, so that part was my fault, but still, I wasn’t expecting one small glass to be so much. On the plus side, their pastries had been replenished and they had much more than they did the other day, so we picked up a few more things to take home with us. What convinced me to add an extra star is that I just tried a piece of the apple cinnamon roll we brought home(after heating it in the microwave for 15 seconds just to warm it) and it was wonderful! So the next time we’re in town, we’ll definitely come by for some baked goods, and if we dine in, I’ll stick to breakfast or New Mexican dishes, which are apparently their strong suit.

Awesome place. Came here for breakfast while visiting Taos. They were busy but we were seated right away and the food came out fast. I ordered the huevos rancheros with the green chile sauce and it was fantastic. My daughter had the small cinnamon roll and it was big enough to take home for breakfast the next day, too. I will definitely go back if I’m ever in Taos again.

Excellent pastries and breakfast! My husband and I were headed somewhere else and ended up here instead. So glad, the eggs I had were cooked perfect and the bacon was delicious.

My husband and I went here for breakfast on a little getaway we took here. I got the german pancakes(thin pancakes + lemon + butter = siuper delicious fyi). My husband got some egg and steak platter. We thought the food was really delicious HOWEVER the service was not so great… it was like they were trying to get us out as fast as possible(the place was busy but not full by any means, so it was a little odd). Since moving to New Mexico I have yet to find a good bagel place and since they advertised their«homemade chewy bagels» I thought I would get one to go as well. It was yummy but I don’t think I would call it a «bagel»…it was more like a buttery roll… a good buttery roll, but not a bagel… I’m from New Jersey so my bagel expectations are pretty high in case you can’t tell ;) My husband got an apple fritter for the road that he said was«okay» but tasted like a mix, not homemade(my husband was a cook so I trust his opinion on matters like that). Was kind of disappointed about that but would definitely go back and try some other baked goods. Next time we’re in Taos we’ll definitely be back, just hope their attitude is a little better.

Best chile rellenos I’ve ever had. I don’t even like rellenos but I’d drive all the whatnot Taos just toe Michael’s rellenos! I keep meaning to try mother things on the menu but honestly, good chile rellenos are pretty hard to find. You can’t go wrong with this dish! Can’t wait to get back again for another order!

Every time we go to Taos we stop here to eat. Food is consistently good! Good example of good New Mexico cuisine. I know I should try other things, and I have, breakfast is good regardless of what you order. My second favorite is a Mexican hamburger, but I usually end up with the stuffed sopapilla.

This has been a favorite for way too many years to mention. We drive down from Colorado Springs to Taos just for this. The baked goods are fresh and the menu items are always more than you can eat… never been disappointed.

Generations of our family have been dining at Michael’s Kitchen. It’s number one on our list of places to visit when we arrive in Taos. «Martín’s Breakfast Burrito»(Scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, diced green chile and hash browns wrapped in a flour tortilla) is a breakfast tradition for us, so much so it’s worth driving from Tulsa for. After breakfast we make a point to get something from the bakery for a mid morning snack, it’s always fresh.
