This place was quaint and delicious! A real gem, we thought :) Great Middle Eastern cuisine, kind people, fast service! Peaceful environment, as well!

This place has excellent, fresh vegetarian middle-eastern food. I’d say I’ve eaten there perhaps 12 or 15 times for both breakfast and lunch. I’ve never been disappointed with the food or service. They’ve earned my repeat business and a good review.

Great food and a hilariously hippie ambience! Great soup of the day– French onion with a Mediterranean twist. The avocado and red pepper sandwiches were great and the sample plate was a fantastic way to try a little bit of everything. Thanks for the great service, Mallory! :)

El Gamal is a treasure of a restaurant. Our family loves everything here– from the delicious sample platter to dessert and everything in between. The specials never disappoint. Everything is fresh, full of flavor and so lovingly prepared. The owners take great care in creating a warm community gathering place, hosting various events. We love attending the storytelling night with the one and only Silke! They accommodate families really well and our out of town guests always go back several times before leaving town. I recently had the special Moroccan stew and fell in love. But tonight my love was deepened by the stuffed roasted tomatoes special. I could eat here every day. Portion sizes are generous too. There’s a play space in the back for children full of creative toys. I always leave El Gamal excited to go back.

My wife and I are visiting from New York. We are traveling with two friends from Southern California. El Gamal has an incredible mix of flavorful Mediterranean creations. During our visit everything was made with fresh ingredients by a masterful chef. Combined we tried about 10 different things from the menu all were delicious. Everything from the hummus to the falafel to the pita were absolutely top notch. More complicated creations were fabulous such as the bureka. We left full and very happy with everything we had. We highly recommend to visitors to Taos.

Excellent food. I had the Falafel sandwich; the best I’ve ever had. My wife had the Indian curry special, also excellent flavor.

We have tried to eat at this establishment on two separate occasions and on two separate vacations. It is very frustrating to see that it is open and the hours are in fact wrong. Both times we were unable to dine and had to go look somewhere else.

Very tasty mid-eastern dishes. The only reason I give them three stares is something I heard from a waitress there: they hardly pay a living wage to their full time workers. Knowing that, I encourage people to tip generously. I give at least 25%. Unless the waiter is mean, which has never happened to me. I like that their dishes don’t rely on spice. Their cream of kale soup is great with goat cheese. Also their bagel egg sandwich. When I eat there, I feel like everything is in place. I can tell the menu is carefully made.

Fresh, affordable middle eastern food. Great vibes. Outdoor seating is perfect on a summer afternoon. Falafel is excellent, house made pita is delicious, everything yum. Great iced chai, too! A kids playroom in the back is a thoughtful touch.

Agree that interior is a little dark but the food was very good. Samosas were excellent as was the baba ganoush. Service was fast while we were there but then again there was only 1 other customer.

I live in Texas but stumbled on the place during a visit to Taos. I think of it so often now. I dined by myself… walked in hungry, left happy. I got some avocado pita thing, and every bite was perfect. The sauce was seriously incredible. There’s an area where you can sit in the floor, which I wanted to try. But I didn’t want yo disturb the others sitting in that area. But overall it looked cozy and cool. The waitress was quite friendly and had great suggestions. I miss this place a lot… wish we had one in San Antonio.

Ambience is excellent for relaxing in style. The floor seating reminded me of being in India. The food selection was typical of an Israeli restaurant. We had the sample plate with labane, tabouli, and falafel. What I think was the hummus was runny and not so flavorful, the tabouli was fresh but lacking something, the labane wasn’t what I expected. Overall everything was fresh and satisfying but Its not something I’ll be craving in the future. The special was very good: thai falafel with coconut sauce and papaya rice. This was a good way to go. Pleased with the gluten free options. Love the energy here and the staff is very helpful.

The pita bread is amazing! Thick and fluffy. You can buy a package of it at Cids. The restaurant is pretty grimy and dark but service is swift and food tastes good.

Incredible and authentic — think slow service but diversity of options beyond imagination. Israeli salad, samosas, and chickpea dishes ALL really are off the charts. Flies are a tad bothersome so outdoor patio seating recommended in Summer and whatever you do just try as much variety as you can. Vegetarian food like this is rare to find and albeit not fine food or gourmet it is superb.

This place is delicious. I love the sampler plate, definitely best bagels in town, the falafel is crispy, the pita is outstanding, and the fries are so good you won’t be able to stop eating them. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. The down side is that this restaurant needs a deep cleaning. It’s just about to close for a month and that may be how long it takes to actually get through the grime. I highly recommend the food, but hope it’s cleaner next time.
