We stayed in Studio D, which is 1.5 miles down the road from the main lodge. We were not informed that we had to check in at the main lodge. This information could have been provided on the phone or on the email receipt when we made a reservation. While a 1.5 mile trek is not far to go, without a front desk on site, there is little support for the studio cabins. As others noted, the parking lot is not shoveled and there is literally no one to call if you really needed any form of support or information that lodging staff typically provide to travelers. As a side note, you are not likely to have any cell reception in or around the studios. We had to use a landline in a larger-adjacent studio to call out. Cleaning staff are split between the main lodge and the studios. This means that no one will clean the studios until well after noon and likely closer to 2pm. An early check-in is not an option. Perhaps this only pertains to studio D, as it sits directly underneath the stairs. It is very noisy, as others hustle luggage and other equipment from their cars to their 2nd floor rooms. I understand this is likely unavoidable and just the natural consequence of selecting a first floor studio. The studio gets 3 starts because it was very clean and very warm. We were able to adjust the heat ourselves and were very comfortable. The grounds were safe and well lit. And overall we felt we got our money’s worth, as we didn’t pay too much.

We stayed here in July 2015 during a hiking trip. The summer rates were very affordable. We didn’t see a lot of people here, staff or otherwise. The two staff members we met were both friendly and helpful. The place was clean, but very New Mexico rustic. The WiFi was barely functional. The location is very convenient.

We stayed here during ski season at the Taos Mountain Cabin down the street.(Note that your reservation requires you to check in at the base area, but not all of the units are right there! Fortunately, we knew in advance that our cabin was 1.5 miles down the road.) The cabin itself was pretty cute. However, my main complaints had to do with 3 things: 1. The only heater in this cabin is located in the living room. The bathroom was REALLY cold and had no heat. 2. The wifi was nearly non-existent. And there is no cell signal. So if you are looking to get a bit away from things, this place is great. Unfortunately, that was not what I was looking for. 3. Snow removal, snow removal, snow removal. Yeah. It is a ski resort. It gets snow. But there was no attempt to keep a path to the front door of the cabin cleared. It was very icy and treacherous with one boot width of a path. Further, the drive ways to the cabins frequently get plowed in. I had an AWD sport utility and was not the only one stuck in this driveway. Some people staying at the lower units even blocked the driveway by parking in front of it. Many, many people got stuck in the snow in this driveway, which makes for a stressful morning when you are trying to get to the airport! It would help if they provided snow shovels in the units, but all they had was an ice chisel. Fortunately, some of the other guests had avalanche shovels. But really. You guys are a ski chalet. Shovels should be standard gear.

I’m writing a summer-time review for these Suites, located directly below Taos Ski area. We came to hike Wheeler Peak, the highest mountain in New Mexico, and were looking for one night’s lodging. We showed up at 7:30 p.m., unannounced, to find a room the night before our hike. The sweet lady working the front desk let us know about their extensive availability and offered us a 10% discount off the discounted summer rates if we took a room with a king bed. Pleasant surprises: 1. The rooms were beautiful. The king bed was the giant, fluffy, comforting horizontal surface of my dreams. Lots of pillows, cozy sheets. 2. The room had a humidifier(my humidity-loving sinuses say thank you), a ceiling fan, a small kitchenette(fridge, micro, toaster, sink, coffeemaker, dishes), a fireplace(which wasn’t turned on for summer), and a deck with chairs. 3. The shower had lovely tile and super comfy towels. it was not the cheap hotel shower I’m used to. 4. The room was large and had a sofa with a pull-out bed. We didn’t use it, but we could have easily slept 2 adults and 2 kids and not been tripping over each other. 5. Very close proximity to Tim’s Stray Dog Cantina(take the elevator down, walk along the deck to the restaurant). This place was so delicious and an absolute godsend after our caloric expenditure climbing that mountain. Delicious food and awesome staff. There were really no unpleasant surprises. The view off the deck wasn’t amazing(ski slopes always look a little junky around the base, especially when snow isn’t covering all the buildings/equipment). I would occasionally notice clunky door-closing noises in the hallway, but I didn’t feel that this hotel was any noisier than any other. I tend to rent houses on trips, I usually don’t like being so close to so many other folks. So I do not know how I’d feel being there during their busiest season. It served it’s purpose perfectly during their very quiet summer season though. We ended up finishing our hike so late in the day(thank you altitude sickness) that we stayed a 2nd night. We were too exhausted to make it to the hot tub that night, so I can’t review that. But the beds and showers were even more amazing on night #2!

Other reviews slam the place. I completely disagree. It is close to the slopes and the front desk staff are all long term locals who are beyond helpful with problems and questions big and small. There are small kitchenettes in most rooms, so you never have to eat out. Wi-fi when we were there was great. Hot tub no better or worse than any other ski hotel hot tub. Now for the only reason it is not a 5. If you make your reservations through Taos reservations, once you check in, you cannot get a refund if you leave early, even if it is the last day of the season and the hotel is basically closed the last night but for you and one or two other guests. This is not like Summit County. Once you get her you will realize that the your thought of getting up early to catch your flight the next morning was not a good idea as the three hours to the airport really is close to four at rush hour. They know everyone has this thought and will not give a refund.

This is ranked one of the top three places to stay in the Taos Ski Valley by a bunch of sites, magazines, etc. First the bad stuff — do NOT stay in the lofts above the ski shop. They are small(no way 6 people could survive a week together in one), run down, under appointed(no mirrors besides in the bathroom) and the walls are paper thin. On this last point, we were serenaded each morning at 7:30 by the music from the ski shop below — while I love the Rollings Stones, Todd Rundgren, the Beatles, et al, we were a little surpised to be signing the«woo-hoo’s» from Sympathy for the Devil at 7:35am on our first morning. Also, we were in #19, which is adjacent to another room. When the guests arrived at the other room they might as well have moved in with us, given how clearly we could hear them — including at 2am. Other not so great stuff: — There is no restaurant right on the premises. While there are plenty of other options, it would be nice to be able to stay inside and get a bagel in the morning. — they promised wi-fi but given our location the only one with a strong signal was the ski shop… and the router was, at best, intermittent. — I got a decent massage from a lovely woman named Kat… but I had asked for the foot soak and shoulder massage and when I got there she had no idea what I was talking about and was not set up for the foot part. Oh my tootsies. — The hot tub is big but the shallowest I have ever experienced. no kidding. I could sit on the bottom and still have my entire head out of water. WTF. Here’s the good news — it’s convenient to the mountain. The people were all really really nice. Oh, and Tim’s Stray Dog Cantina is right next door. I think if I were to go back I would try the Edelweiss, St Bernard or Snakedance.

Four of us spent two nights here in July 2008. It was okay for the price, although it seemed a bit worn around the edges. We had a room with a loft bedroom, and that was kind of cool; two of us slept upstairs and two on a sleeper sofa. The staff was very friendly. We’d stay here again, but aside from the ski lift and hiking(both of which were fun), there isn’t much to do here in the off-season and we spent most of our time in Taos. On the other hand, the quiet has a certain attraction.
