In searching for a new dentist, going through my insurance book is pretty much like throwing darts at a map and hoping you get a good one. I am always nervous about the experience, especially for me, as going to a dentist usually means a drill in my mouth! Going to Dr. Medina’s office, I had a little trepidation, but was quickly dissuaded by her professional staff. In an initial visit, you have the many x-rays and poking and prodding with sharp implements. Dr. Medina explains everything she does and the course of action that you should take. She does not force you into anything and merely suggests what she thinks might be best. In my scenario, a couple of fillings needed to be replaced, but that is what I expected since I have had them for many years. Now, I am not coming out and saying that I look forward to going to the dentist, but going to Dr. Medina’s office makes it a little bit easier… plus the massage dentist chair helps as well!

Caution! Beware!!! This is a husband/wife team(assuming they are still together. I hope not for his sake.) It is pretty obvious who wears the pants in his family. Frankly, I wouldn’t go to either one of them. He insisted on replacing all of my stable metal fillings with white fillings because«they looked nicer and did not have mercury.» Three years, a lot of pain and many dollars later, I found out what a mistake that was because i am now having to have them replaced by either metal filling again because it is more stable or by crowns. They also referred me for an implant for a missing incisor and built a temporary partial that was much too tight, causing the implant to fail. As a result, after much physical and emotional pain, I was back to getting a permanent bridge. However, she raised the price by $ 2000 from her prior predetermination which was already way more than my dental insurance would allow. If you need a dental surgeon, see Dr. Longmire on Fletcher Avenue near the University. It is worth the drive. He is competent, compassionate and no nonsense. For a regular dentist, try Dr Cheslock(if he hasn’t retired yet). He is a great dentist; however, be forewarned that it is mandatory to laugh at his wild jokes.
