U.b.U Color Salon

Poor experience. I had brassy hair that my stylist messed up and they wouldn’t book me another appointment. Also got a keratin treatment and the owner is so stingy that he didn’t give my stylist enough product to do all of my hair. I will not be coming back.

I purchased a Groupon for a hair cut and conditioning treatment. I went on a Saturday morning and this places was slammed! I did not have to wait at all though and was offered coffee which is a nice treat with a morning hair appointment. A little early for wine at the salon for me! The stylist who cut my hair did a really good job of comprehending the cut I was looking for and the cut turned out fine. Here is the problem and the reason I will not go back — I do NOT at all like when stylist do not cut your bangs and face framing when your hair is dry. This is a non starter for me.

I think it is important for out-​of-​towners to get another perspective before thinking about booking here. I recently moved to Tampa and did not have a bad experience at U.b.u., but I come from a long history of having great haircuts/​dyes at great salons. I’m also not cheap on my hair, so cost is usually not important to me if the service is excellent and I feel and look great after.
Let me start by saying that I got a bad feeling about the place by how many Unilocal postings were littered all around the shop. The employees asked how I learned of them and Unilocal was mentioned then too. It was just very odd…
This place is not up to par in terms of stylist technique, décor, or pricing for services. The salon is nothing fancy and is not decorated to feel like it is trying to be. Also, the stylist’s technique with highlights and even with hair washing made it very clear to me that he was not as experienced as his pricing would call for.
As previously mentioned, price is usually not an issue for me. I was, however, incredibly surprised by how much my simple cut and highlights cost (even with the Unilocal discount). For an inexperienced stylist, at a mediocre looking REDKEN salon, I would have expected to pay at least $ 50 less than I did. This place is no spa, I tell you. I’ll take this one as my fault though. I should have asked about the price before…
If you are looking for a good salon in Tampa and have to rely on Unilocal,just be wary of believing everything you read. I was very disappointed.

Lon did a great job with my full highlights– I have gotten many compliments on the color. He is really a master at what he does and very attentive to detail. He didn’t rush, and made sure to understand exactly the color of highlight I wanted. He is also very knowledgeable on product use. Interesting person to talk to as well while you are getting your hair done. :)

Hands down, this is the best salon I have been to in Tampa. The amount of teamwork, knowledge, and skill at U.b.u is incredible. I have seen multiple artists at the salon and everyone has been wonderful. Most recently, I have taken my pastel obsession to the next level with Lon and Victoria. They have handheld my jet black hair to a beautiful steely lavender. I wouldn’t trust anyone else to do this kind of transformation than these two!!!

BEST haircut I’ve ever had! I am new to Tampa and was a little nervous trying a new salon but saw all the great reviews so decided to try this place out. SO glad I did! Trish was amazing and cut my hair exactly like I wanted… Showed her a picture and honestly it turned out even better than expected! Could not be happier to find a new salon that is even BETTER than my old one in Chicago. I also had the keritin treatment done and it has made my hair so much more manageable and frizz-​free in this crazy FL humidity. Thanks Trish!

I relocated to Tampa a few months ago. Relocation is always scary when you have had many blonde mishaps. After lots of research and recommendations I selected U.B.U. Lon did a pre-​appointment consultation by phone followed by an in-​salon consultation. He has been thorough, consistent, meticulous and above all, friendly.
Lon has done my single process three times now and a round of full highlights. My hair started to turn orange from the local water and Lon has expertly worked to restore my hair to its normal shade of blonde.
It is such a relief to know my hair is in good hands. I am happy to say I have found my new salon and stylist/​colorist. If you are looking for a blonde expert or any hair expert look no further than U.B.U. and Lon. Can’t wait for my keratin treatment!

Could not be happier with my hair!!! I came in with no color and requested an aggressive balyage (for a new customer) and Lon literally gave me exactly what I was looking for. Reasonably priced and they were super accommodating (called a day before my appt!) Professional from start to finish! Highly recommend this salon!

Tried out UBU and had Tara cut, color, and style my hair. I couldn’t be more pleased with the process and finished product! Tara is a true professional in every sense as well as an artist within her craft! I will for sure be back to have Tara take care of all my needs!!! She rocks!

Penny was fantastic! She is the first stylist I have been too that truly understood the techniques appropriate for my curly hair. She also gave me awesome blonde balayage highlights! I will definitely be back.

I got all over blonde highlights and some low lights by Trish. It came out perfect! Oh and she layered my hair perfectly. She knows what she’s doing and it’s no wonder why this place has such great reviews! Great customer service and hair! Will be back…

Penny is a fantastic colorist and stylist. I moved here from CA last year and dreaded finding a new hair colorist as I have had my hair ruined in the past and it’s hard to find talent at an affordable price. She is amazing. I have had highlights, color, style etc. Recently she put in extensions. It was an affordable luxury and I received so many compliments. She is very professional while also being personable and friendly. I highly recommend her. Amazing work!

A family member of mine went to U.b.U Color Salon and said she really loved her hair, she stated the services and knowledge was amazing. She states that this salon is her favorite over other local salons and recommends this salon to anyone who wants professional hair coloring.
I recommended U.b.U Color Salon to my family due to the Unilocal reviews and it lived up to it’s reputation. Prices are lower than other Color Salons in the area, complimentary drinks, chocolate, and it’s a clean place.

I’ve been going to UBU since the salon opened on Swann years ago. Penny has been styling my hair for at least 10 years before she and Leo founded UbU. Penny is a very talented and skilled stylist both in color and stying. She stays current with all styles and techniques and is one of the best in South Tampa if not the whole TB region. I would recommend her to any of my friends including those from NYC. In fact I have recommended her to numerous friends. She works very hard and provides caring and responsive service. She is rarely late with appt times. Here is a photo of my current haircut/​style. I love short but edgy hair and she nails it every time.

I love this hair salon! Great hospitality, offer you comp. drinks. Krystal is such a sweetheart and is great at what she does. I had an ombré that I wanted to get rid of and change my hair to a deep red color. The process was quick and i was out of there in 2 hrs. She even let me come back to get my ends retouched up, no charge. Go here!

Can you say Happy Girl!!! I love love my hair. Trish did an AAAHHHHHMMMMAAAAZZZZIIINNNGGG balayage on my hair. I wanted lighter but still some warmth and she hit the nail on the head. Absolutely love this salon! I am a natural blonde but my hair has gotten darker as I get older. I am also very sensitive about cutting my hair. Penny always does a great job with my highlights, making the color pop in a very natural way. I have had trouble with a brassy looking blonde in the past and she has totally fixed it for me. She always makes my hair look exactly how I request! The entire staff is welcoming and lovely to be around.

I’ve been going to Penny at UbU since I moved to Tampa Bay 12 years ago. With short hair it’s always a challenge to find an amazing stylist and she is beyond amazing. She always knows what styles to do and colors to create. I can’t imagine going anywhere else. See her once and you will see the difference!

Penny is the blonde expert!!! I’ve been to her four times now and will never stray!!! She is the only one ever that gets my hair bright with NO brass! Love her!
