This is the best chicken and waffles I’ve had in Tampa. Datz could learn from these guys. They really know how to season some fried chicken! This is a small, family owned business and that just makes me love it even more. The husband and wife duo run the place together. Too cute. I’ve got a photo here on my blog:

Momma Mae I is a southern kitchen that is located less than a mile from MacDill AFB. The outside looks a little questionable but the inside is nicely decorated and clean. You can either order at the counter for take-out or sit down and be served. We arrived 20 minutes before they closed and they were friendly and happy to serve us. My husband ordered the baked chicken, green beans, and tomatoes and okra. The chicken was very moist and flavorful. I ordered a fried chicken breast(boneless, skinless), with macaroni and cheese and collard greens. All of it was a hit with all of us, including my two year old and 10 month old. Other items they serve include oxtail, turkey wings, smothered neckbone, pork chops, tilapia, meatloaf, chitterlings, and short ribs. They also serve breakfast and lunch. They offer desserts including red velvet cake, pound cake, carrot cake, and banana pudding. They were out of everything but the pound cake. We tried it and it was good. However, I will be back to try the red velvet cake, at the very least.
