Today is Friday, April 10 and we were so excited to go to lunch. However, we just got here and it’s 12:15 pm and you’re closed!!! What is going on??? Have you closed for good?

Reading the menu, the food sounded good. And if they had had any available to eat, it might have been. But it was hard to evaluate the food, since they were out of it. For a restaurant, that in itself seems to warrant a low rating.

Located in the beautiful business section of Hyde Park you’ll find Max and Chz. I ordered the number two meal in a large bowl. Way too much for one person, but perfect for two! The macaroni tasted almost synonymous to beef stroganoff. I must say this though, the quality of the food in proportion to the price paid isn’t perfect. They will deliver if your order total is more than fifteen dollars. All in all, a good place to try and decent enough to consider a return.

Jesus, mother of F***. The concept of this place is like a childhood dream come true, but the reality was more like a visit from Freddy Krueger. The prices were way too high, the portions were way too small, and I’ve met rice cakes that had more flavour. Honestly, the macaroni and cheese served here is the kind of unpalatable gruel that cafeteria macaroni and cheese wakes up screaming from nightmares about turning into.

If you are American(and not lactose intolerant), you will love this place. Honestly, is there ANYTHING better than macaroni and cheese? I went to Max & Chz a few months ago with a friend. There is remote parking about a block away from the store front. My first thought was that the décor was a bit underwhelming, however I was much more interested in the meal. My friend ordered the broccoli cheddar mac for herself and the taco mac for her boyfriend. Both of them were unimpressed, but I will add that we took it to-go and they didn’t eat it for 30 – 45 minutes. I ordered the Alfredo, which comes with a variety of cheeses and bacon. It was incredible! The smaller portion served up two meals since it is very rich and filling. I would definitely return and probably order the same thing, but I can’t speak for anything else on the menu!

I’m a huge fan of this place which puts a simple twist on my favorite comfort food! My friend and I were craving something familiar and delicious and this place did not disappoint. There are several menu options available to keep your taste buds interested like the classic Mac, taco mac, hamburger mac, buffalo mac, etc. You can even ask to add toppings like bacon, extra cheese, or crunchy toppings. After taking your order, the cooks in the open kitchen toss your order on a skillet and the food comes out hot and fast. My only complaint is the absence of any kind of side item. Maybe a biscuit or something would have broken up the meal a bit nicely? Or a dessert? This is place is by no means the fanciest or a snobby foodie spot but they won me over by giving me exactly what I was looking for… A warm, delicious bowl of creamy Mac and cheesey goodness.

Awesome concept but the execution leaves something to be desired. All the recipes look good on the menu but taste bland. It just feels uninspired.

Late lunch. Been wanting to try this place for some time now as I(like most people) love Mac n cheese. Place is located near UT and was very clean. People were very friendly. I love the concept and wish them a lot of success. Unfortunately I found the All American Cheese Burger Mac n Cheese to be a bit bland. Will have to try something else if I return

Not tasty… Buy some stouffers and you will be more satisfied. We ordered buffalo chicken and it was a watery, bland mac and cheese with hot sauce. Not gourmet not even good. Cheese was separated and it wasn’t creamy

Stopped in to pick up lunch at about 12:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. Surprisingly I was the only person there. The place is small with a couple tables, counter seating and a tv up in the corner playing music. I ordered the Southwestern bowl, which took about ten minutes to be ready. The menu is very basic. I’d suggest adding a side salad that may help attract more of a lunch time crowd. The bowl itself was alright. It needed some seasoning, very bland. It was a good size for the price and it ended up being two meals.

My husband and I tried Max & Chz for the first time today and loved it! It was a Wednesday evening, so not too crowded. We had the Mac & Cheese Sandwich and the Buffalo Mac & Cheese. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. The Buffalo Mac & Cheese had the right amount of spiciness(for my taste, at least) and the cheese was a good consistency — not overly rich/thick like some places serve it. Some of the comments mentioned that the flavors were bland. I didn’t find that to be the case at all — maybe they’ve changed it since those comments were posted. The atmosphere was fun, and the owner and staff were friendly and easy to talk to. We will definitely be back!

Being in the food business myself I really hesitate to be negative about other establishments. However, good comfort food is close to my soul and I feel disheartened when executed poorly. Only one other customer there so really not much wait. Ordered the Alfredo. Supposedly 3 cheeses. Very bland, very milky with some stringy mozz. Bacon was essentially raw. I could’nt eat it. .

My friends and I went a few weeks ago on a slow week night shortly after the big opening. If you go, be prepared to eat.aLOT. Each of us foolishly ordered our own and ended up with enough food to feed 8! Let me give you the run down: All food is prepared after you order it. This means that there is no giant vat of pre-made macaroni and cheese that is simply tossed with whatever flavor/toppings you select(the preferred method of a few of the places I tried in Los Angeles). The pasta is cooked and tossed in sauce after you order it– that means you need to be patient and wait a few minutes. I could see this being problematic at a busy lunch hour. The pasta is also not baked(being made to order), meaning if you are looking for a crackly cheesy crust, this is not your spot. However, it’s still ooey gooey delicious so don’t be scared. Between the four of us, we were able to try four different flavors. Be brave! My trusted broccoli cheese pick was actually my least favorite– bolder flavors were found in the taco or the Italian! I couldn’t stop stealing bites from my friends. We also sampled a few of the wings– baked and not too spicy(aka perfect combo). Will definitely be back!

Off Day Perhaps? I walked down from downtown with 4 other co-workers. We trudged through the summer sun for a taste. The place is really small and there was almost a line out the door. Great sign! We ordered to-go because there simply was no place to sit. Our order took about 20 minutes. I ordered Broccoli Mac & Cheese. This mac and cheese was the blandest mac and cheese I have ever tasted in my life. It actually lacked cheese! It was as though they forgot to add flavor! Maybe it was because they were slammed for lunch? I’d have a hard time being talked into trying it again. If it’s in your name and you suck at it then you’ve got serious probs! Good luck!

We arrived around 12:30 and the place was pretty packed. I’ve never been so didn’t think anything of it. There were not any seats available so we walked next door and got a drink and came back. When we came back customers were all holding plastic bottles and tshirts and we were informed they were very backed up and it could be 45min+still on our order(broccoli cheddar mac & eggs&bacon mac). I thought the free giveaways were accomodating so I waited patiently. As we waited they ran our of bacon and asked if they may substitute ham on my boyfriends order. We got our food at 1:50. It was super hot inside and I was sweating by the time we left, not comfortable any of the time inside. My meal appeared to be cheesey but I didn’t taste the cheese flavor. The portions ARE very large so the price seems spot on. I don’t know if its always this busy or not, I may come back because its a fun concept& i’d like to try the philly mac or italian, but only if its quicker next time! People were asking for refunds and they seemed to give priority to delivery orders.

I deserve a badge for this. My personal favorite comfort food is macaroni and cheese and I’ve indulged more times that I care to count. I convinced my wife to come with me because I unwisely decided it was time to test our wonderful relationship. Test it I did! I blame Nick for initially telling me about this place and Chris for his enthusiasm! ;-) If you are a youngster who has not yet developed a sophisticated palate, or a college student with a massive case of the munchies, or someone like me who just had to find out, this is the place for you. Making your food fresh upon ordering, this new, spotless, open, and friendly spot across from the University of Tampa was quiet when we arrived after 5pm. Later, as the multiple two year old rug rats with their parents piled in, along with college students looking for maximum mass for minimal price, it became quite crowded. Plus, they were cranking out deliveries for college students too«focused»(yea, that’s what we will call it) to walk across the street! Price-wise, the menu is more than fair. The large was only $ 1 more than the regular. Consequently, I went with multiple large entrees. The toasted unseasoned breadcrumbs required another $.50. Please note, they were pre-toasted rather than baked or broiled on to the entrée. Unfortunately, this version of macaroni and cheese is not the most flavorful, or the second most, or the third. We had to add salt, pepper and hot sauce. The bacon was largely undetectable, even though we ordered extra. We all knew the menu leaned toward«child-like» with a focus on Velveeta, hot dogs, canned tuna, etc. It’s true. There is no lobster, truffle, or duck to be found here. For that level of macaroni and cheese goodness, we must go to MacBar. As for the items we ordered, the basic Velveeta was exactly as described although quite runny, almost like a soup. If you love Velveeta, this is for you. Otherwise, avoid at all costs. The Italian was the most flavorful item. I almost liked it. The Alfredo with extra bacon was missing a few things… Salt. Flavor. Bacon. The nachos were pretty basic but tasty, with olives, jalapeños, salsa, sour cream, and some kind of flavored meat. They were a taste explosion compared to the other items we ordered. Now, I must begin my journey on the road to forgiveness. First, we went to Trader Joe’s to obtain cookie butter ice cream for dessert! Next, I’m taking my wife to NYC to make up for my lack of good judgement. Sorry dear!

Mac & Cheese. And they deliver. Traditional style and could use a lil more seasoning. But very wholesome. Made to order, hot, reasonably priced, and filling. Reminded me of the penne pasta with cheese at Sal’s Salumeria off Broadway in the Bronx, NYC. This is authentic homestyle cooked just right, made with pride stuff. It exceeded my expectations. I tried the Italian 9″ which came in a large tin with ricotta, hamburger meat, and mozzarella cheese over perfectly al dente macaroni(they call it Max here). My order came out fast and it’s an open kitchen so you can see the action. There’s a large menu board and daily special. You order at the counter(or you can phone it in) and soon it’s delivered out to you. The owner was nice, friendly and passionate about the place. It’s a good anti-Oxford Exchange(which is around the corner, University of Tampa is across the street) in the sense that it’s low frills with just a few tables and not a lot of frou frou. Enjoy!!! I left full and satisfied although I would have enjoyed a good side salad.
