I’ve been here before and last time was great. This time we had a chicken sandwich and a ¼ chicken dinner. In both cases the chicken was dry. The bun on the sandwich was stale and hard. The cole slaw was on the dry sure and rather bland. The Mac and Cheese and baked beans were good. All in all not a good outing.

So far this is probably the best BBQ place I have hit in the Tampa area during my visit. I was excited to see that they have burnt ends and stew. Not a very expansive menu but it hits the major players in the BBQ game. I ordered the burnt end plate with two sides. Mac & cheese and green beens. That comes with garlic toast. I also ordered a bowl of Brunswick stew. The burnt ends had great flavor but were very dry. Mac and cheese was on point !!! Green beens were delicious and made with ham and onions. Garlic bread was good too Dad ordered BBQ chicken, mac & cheese, green beens He enjoyed it all. Said chicken was moist. The Brunswick stew was not mine but it was pretty damn good. Lots of tender pork, tomatoes, peas, corn with nice consistency Only very limited bar top seating inside and a few picnic tables outside. Restrooms are outside and I did not visit them. Two of us are a lot of food with two drinks for $ 33.00

The beef brisket is very good. Not too fatty at all. The sweet barbecue sauce is very good and nice amount of Tang. Unfortunately they were out of corn bread and gave me garlic bread instead, not bad. The sides taste good but are not special.

Just had a fun lunch here. The seating is mostly outside so that’s something to keep in mind. The Mac and cheese is awesome. Super cheesy. My brisket was ok. There were several very fatty pieces that I just couldn’t eat. But my friend had the Burt ends and those are very good. Overall, a pretty yummy place for southern comfort food

We finally made it here after having this spot bookmarked forever. We parked and dined in(outside actually, at one of the tables by the TV and under a fan) vice using the drive thru to go. Upon entry you see all of the meat and sides displayed behind the glass for your picking. There is also a menu with sandwiches and other things that obviously need to be prepared. I went with the hog & heifer sandwich which has pulled pork, burnt ends(Soooo good), and coleslaw, and selected French fries and mac n cheese to accompany it. All was good, as they sprinkle seasoned salt on the fries. It was also nice to wash this down with a free beer(first one is free for military) from their selection, which was mostly craft(though ipa heavy) that day. The wife had the burnt end and chicken combo plate. I forgot which sides she had, but she loved it all. I can’t stress enough how good the burnt ends are/were here. They give you plenty of food, as neither of us finished our lunch. Our bill was somewhere under $ 30 and worth every penny. Another thing that stood out was the friendliness of the staff. They were very courteous, friendly, personable, and sociable, which was nice. With this place being not too far from the house, we will definitely be back. Especially since having leftovers didn’t suffice for my oldest daughter.

Brisket is one of the best I have ever had. Also, they have Brunswick Stew. Their’s has a Cajun spice to it and it is very salty. This is a well run place with mostly outside seating. It is clean and tasty with friendly staff. Ice tea tastes like it was made in GA.(Excellent) I will be coming back. Only 4 stars because of no inside seating on a hot day.

The only problem with a DELICIOUSLUNCH is that you want to nap rather than work. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich with hot BBQ sauce and corn fritters. Holy Hog BBQ has wonderful tasting BBQ and it is very filling. The sandwich will do you just right for lunch, anything more you really might fall asleep from satiation. I ordered a side of corn fritters. Deep fried with light powdered sugar on top. They really complimented the pulled pork. I ordered online and got a 10% discount. The Henderson/South Tampa location has a drive up window that is very convenient. The staff was friendly and the prices are decent for the high quality of food. I will definitely be back often.

The Point of No Return I can’t really say how we ended up here seeing as how the family & I have cut pork out of our diet, but hey shhh happens! After moving into our house, burning over 3,000+ calories, having no pots or pans in sight – we decided to drive around to find some bbq. We decided to drive through a few lights & then Unilocaled to find the closest BBQ place from our current location & thought – Holy s it is! What I Liked I appreciated the fact that this place had a drive thru because my feet were very sore. I also appreciate the fact that military receives a 15% discount which was shocking because you can hardly find a place to give you 10% so that was great. Not only that, but kids eat absolutely free on Tuesdays(as long as you dine in). For the Food of it All My husband ordered ribs with fried okra & jalapeño Mac & Cheese. Still trying to avoid pork, I ordered smoked turkey breast with sweet potato soufflé & jalapeño Mac & Cheese & an Arnold Palmer. The kids ordered chicken tenders(fries) & a kids’ rib basket(fries). Honestly, I did not enjoy my smoked turkey. The smokey flavor – was definitely there but the seasoning was M.I.A. My daughter & husband enjoyed their ribs & I did taste a piece which was good(especially with the Carolina sauce). The Arnold Palmer was also worth trying oh and the Mac and Cheese – the jalapeño Mac and Cheese – definitely for Spicy Lovers only! If you don’t like spicy – get their regular Mac and Cheese. It was delicious & spicy like I like it. Why I’ll Be Back Sometimes if I order food from somewhere and I end up not liking what I ordered – I will tell others about it and never return. No second chances when it comes to food, but that’s not the case this time. Sure, I did not like my turkey, but everything else that I ordered and my family ordered was good. Not only was their food good, but this lady named Candy gave us the best customer service experience ever! She let us know before ordering that they were completely out of chicken(which was what we wanted). She also restated our order to us & informed us of the«kids eat free» on Tuesday if we come in instead of continuing to order at the drive thru. We explained that we just moved and were too tired to come in but we appreciated her informing us. We ordered & was amazed that they honored the«kids eat free» although we ordered from the drive thru & that along with Candy establishing a rapport & keeping us informed is definitely why I’ll be back! #gotryitforyourself #letmeknowwhatyouthink

The first time we visited here we thought they did a very good job, none of us had any complaints. However, yesterday we ate here once again. 3 sandwhiches and 3 drinks = $ 40. The pulled pork was almost as good as the first trip, but the other two«Turkey and Pork» sandwhiches had a ton of very thick fat on them, so much, that when we finally cut it all off, only half of the sandwiches remained. This was«way too much» to pay for what we bought. A friend of mine ate here this week too, he complained that a small plate of burnt ends(«which were very good») and a beer, was a hair under $ 20… I’m buying a barbecue.

Really solid bbq joint. You order at the counter – one meat and two sides. The desserts looked good, but I didn’t try them. I had the sliced ham and jalapeño mac n’cheese and sweet potatoes. The ham was good, nothing out of the ordinary. The jalapeño mac n’cheese was above average. The sweet potatoes were good, but could have used a bit more cinnamon. There was also a pretty good selection of microbrews. I’d like to go back and get their bbq. Be ready to sit outside!

I stopped by here on the way home yesterday because my Fiancé has been craving burnt ends. I ordered the burnt ends meal with collards and green beans and the rib dinner with corn nuggets and baked beans. As soon as I was handed the bag, I knew something wasn’t right because I was holding it with one finger and I thought to myself… this seems awfully light. My suspicions were proved true as I opened the 2 boxes when I got home. One box had three small containers. One container had a few chunks of burnt ends, one had a scoop of collards and the other had some canned green beans. There was also a piece of garlic bread that looked and tasted as if it were previously frozen. This is not the amount of food I remember from eating at Holy Hog locations prior, and I was very disappointed with this $ 14 meal. My rib dinner was even more of a let down. My box literally had 4 ribs smaller than my middle finger. That’s no exaggeration. Plus, they were very fatty and offered minimal amounts of actual smoked meat. The corn nuggets were awesome, and I’m very glad they offer them as a side, but the baked beans were as canned as their green beans. Just bland and boring. This visit left me no real reason to come back and I can pass on the burnt ends if they’re going to ration them out like it’s the depression. There are too many good BBQ joints in the area to consider coming back here again.

Why 3 stars??? Well, it’s average at best. Today we picked up 2lbs of burnt ends, 1lb of sausage to-go, a squeeze bottle of the Carolina sauce and one of the hot sauces. Once home, we eagerly dived into it. Upon our first bite, we both looked at each other and said…“what’s with all the hype?” I found the burnt ends to be a little sweet. And as for the Hot BBQ sauce… there is nothing hot about it! The sausage I found unremarkable. Please understand, nothing tastes bad… it’s just not something I will ever crave. As for the price points, I do find them to be very high. For what I told you we ordered… our bill was over $ 50.00. I know I am breaking the norm by posting this review but I do believe in posting my own experience/opinion.

I was not aware of this location but I’m glad I found it. One of the pros here is drive thru he cons small parking lot and small inside sitting area. I would recommend this location for mostly take out. I went during the week and there was no line and no waiting. I ordered my usual the brisket with green been and mash potato. Even though everything was good I wish their vegetable options were on the healthy side instead of having bacon in everything. I would probably eat at Holly Hog more often. Downtown location is still my favorite spot. Great place to meet friends and have so awesome barbecue

Very disappointed with my meal from Holy Hog. I ordered half a chicken with two sides, green beans and cole slaw for dinner. The chicken was bland, but more importantly it reminded me of the turkey on the movie Christmas Vacation. It was without a doubt the driest bird I have ever eaten. I’ve had green beans from a can with firmer texture and the cole slaw might has well been from a grocery store tub. I admit that, hailing from Memphis, my standards are higher than some. However this was bad on any level.

This food is so good you will lick your fingers(I know, it’s not polite, but everyone else is doing it at Holy Hog so it’s okay!). The flavors here are tasty — from the pulled pork to the sausage — and those burnt ends are terrific. There are numerous sides to choose from that are exactly what you would hope for from a REAL bar-b-que spot so double down on them! The sweet tea is delish. The only reason this does not earn five stars is that the brisket doesn’t meet my exceedingly high standards, but no one outside of Texas has earned that yet. Highly recommend you stop by to grab and go, or hang out on the porch.

First time in Tampa and after spending the entire day out sightseeing and snacking, I was looking for a good hearty meal. Well I found it at Holy Hog! I set my GPS, but as I was being lead through residential streets, I was wondering if I actually typed in the correct address. Most good bbq spots are not found in the touristy areas, but thankfully my family trusted me with the meal selection of the night. Upon arriving I wasn’t sure what to expect. But as soon as we entered we were greeted by friendly staff. There is limited seating, so I was glad we were planning for carry out. We selected the ¼ chicken, pulled pork, riblets(kids) meals with collard greens, mac n cheese, corn medley, and fried okra. As soon as we got back to the hotel the feast began! Everything was delicious. The pulled pork was seasoned and very tender. The collard greens were flavored with a touch of spice. The mac n cheese had the perfect mac to cheese ratio. The best part was that the portions were just enough for you to get full and share a bit. Next time we are in Tampa we’ll be back at the Holy Hog!!!

I had a hankering for some barbecue and decided to check out Holy Hog for dinner. I had checked out the menu online, read the Unilocal reviews, and went in excited to try, well, everything. No, I didn’t get everything, but I did get the burnt ends, chicken, green beans and collard greens. Now, starting with the sides: the collard greens were pretty good. They had a good amount of flavor and were some of the better collard greens I’ve had in my many BBQ experiences. The collard greens weren’t dry, either, which sometimes happens. The green beans were standard. Nothing really too great about them. If I had to choose next time, I’d probably go for the green bean casserole or the okra. Next up was the chicken and the burnt ends. Now, BBQ chicken can be sort of hard to do. This was just roast chicken, but it was a little too dry for my liking. I like juicy chicken, so I felt like I HAD to use BBQ sauce on it to give it some moisture. The burnt ends, however, were great. They didn’t even need BBQ sauce. They could have stood entirely on their own and were easily the best part of the meal. There were three BBQ sauces: a regular, sweet sauce, a mustard BBQ sauce and a spicy sauce. All had a decent amount of flavor, but my personal favorite was the mustard BBQ sauce. The atmosphere of Holy Hog is a standard BBQ joint, but there’s also a drive-thru which, after coming here in person, I think I will definitely use in the future. The prices were reasonable and everything was ready pretty quickly. I’ll definitely be back.

The menu has grown on me at Holy Hog. Initially I wasn’t crazy about a few of the side menu items, but after several visits I finally found some solid sides that I really like. If you visit during the lunch or dinner rush be sure to check your order before leaving. My sister and I did not receive the correct side items and we didn’t realize the mistake until we got home. Despite the goof-up I’m still bumping up my original review to four stars. The pulled-pork is amazing and this may be one of my favorite items on the menu. I’d skip ordering the burnt ends dinner platter. I paid $ 2 extra for the burnt ends platter, but the portion size was about 1⁄5 of the portion size of the pulled-pork my sister received. The jalapeño mac and cheese is amazing. I reluctantly shared mine because my sister’s portion had been swapped with a regular mac and cheese. The corn fritters are freaking amazing and taste like something you would order at the fair since they are fried and covered in powdered sugar. I ordered the jalapeño and bacon cornbread as my second side, but it had been swapped out for green bean casserole. The green beans were fine, but next time I want my cornbread! Despite a few hiccups I would say Holy Hog has pretty solid BBQ.
