Not the worst Gamestop ever(that one is in Houston), but pretty close. Gamestops are generally understaffed for the level of hand-holding its manchild clientel usually requires, so if you’re in line behind A) someone trading in a console for cash/credit or B) a pudgy 20something with a very strong opinion about which version of Pokemon is better, be prepared to wait. Me, I usually bring a snack and fire off a few snarky texts. You can trade in old games to get credit towards new ones — but they don’t tell you how much up front. Generally, if the game is older than a year, you’re only going to get 75 cents to a dollar for it, so budget accordingly. Preordering games is generally a good idea if you’re looking to get a niche title, or even one of the big ones — I got the last copy of a pretty anticipated game, and the guy behind me didn’t get his copy at all. Midnight launches for the annual Call of Duty, but that stretch of Dale Mabry definitely has a level of unsavoryness, so be careful. Nerds(especially nerds waiting for a shooter at midnight on a Tuesday carrying wads of cash) are easy targets.

I am not the hardcore gamer type, and I usually lose when I play against teenage children, but I do enjoy my game time, and my fiancée does too. We recently got into the Assassin’s Creed series. We just beat Assassin’s Creed II for Xbox 360 and got Assassin’s Creed II Brotherhood. About an hour and a half into the game it would freeze. We started a new game and about an hour and a half into the game, it froze again. I thought the disc was defective. We purchased the last new copy from the store on Gandy and Dale Mabry. So we called this location. Not only did they make sure they had the game, they also agreed to exchange for my defective copy. The staff was very knowledgable and helped trouble shoot if the game froze again. We had never installed a game into the hard drive before. Turns out the new game we traded in for had the same issues. But upon installing onto the hard drive, everything started working. 5 stars for friendly, helpful, and knowledgable staff. We will keep coming back.

Our household is still young at heart and enjoys the occasional video game. My husband«has to have» every new electronic the day it comes out so we have purchased our fair share of Xbox, Play Station and Wii video game consoles and games from GameStop. Thank goodness for GameStop’s buy back options! My husband is able to easily sell his old toys for money towards new toys. All of the employees are super helpful and are knowledgeable about the consoles and games, especially Matt. Matt has been able to tell us about almost every game in the store. When video games are well over $ 50 it is crucial to not buy a «lame game». When we purchased an Xbox 360 Matt advised us which games were the best and worked the best with the motion detectors. Over the past few years we have shopped at this store and he has never steered us wrong!
