Unprofessional… Arrived early for my appointment and still had to either wait 45 mins or cancel my appointment while someone else was late for her appointment but got in before me. Hairdresser was not the best. Not sure if I want return. Maybe a different stylist or maybe not at all.

I discovered this place through Groupon and luckily found my forever hairstylist, Chelsea. She always does an amazing job and even though I have lived in Riverview for the past year, I always travel to her. I’m going to follow and stalk her where ever she goes because it is so hard to find a good stylist that listens and does exactly what you ask for! I recommend her to all of my friends.

Richard was my hairstylist and I will be back. I have been looking for the right stylist to cut my hair the way I’ve wanted. It’s now at a good medium length and I can style it easier. I do like that they use good products and run promotions on them. If I wasn’t in a rush I would have purchased the products used. My hair looks a lot better now and I am always getting compliments which is a first for my hair!

An amazing place I would most definitely 100% recommend this place and most definitely Chelsea!!!

Richard was excellent. Fast. Inexpensive. Great shampoo massage! First time in a while that I went in for a trim and my hair actually looked different and BETTER.

First time I go to a salon and the stylist understands what’s in style. I have a lot of very thick hair and Brian was able to do that without any problem. The hair was layered perfectly and his styling technique was amazing. Will return!

I actually bought the groupon for this Salon for a shampoo, cut and style. Chelsea was the one that did my hair and it actually came out pretty great. I usually just trim my ends, frame my face and thin my hair a little. When I first got to the salon, I actually didn’t realize how close it was to where I lived in Carollwood. The place was really clean and the front desk personnel offered me a cookie or beverage which I thought was really nice. My appointment started on time. Chelsea was very nice and personable (a huge difference from other salons I’ve visited where the stylist only said their mandatory hello and how are you). I have no complaints about this place. I will be visiting again.

I had my hair cut there last week by Brian. I have to say I am unhappy with my haircut because it is SO much shorter than I wanted.
Even though I knew it was too short as soon as it was
was only after I got home and looked at it in my mirror that I realized just how much hair had been cut. Somehow my desired style, a long bob { I specifically said I did not want any of my neck to be seen in back} turned into a pixie, I had even brought a photo of desired haircut.
I read the other reviews and people seemed very happy with the salon [which is very nice and the staff is very friendly] so I expected a great experience, However, I would caution everyone to be very careful to make sure you will actually get the style you want. I will be waiting for my hair to grow out for months, so if you go, be sure to insist that you get the cut you want

I tried to visit after reading good reviews but it seems they are not open. Hours on the door say they should be, but the place was deserted.

Chealsea did a wonderful job cutting and coloring my hair. She was able to fix a poorly executed, uneven highlight job, which I got from an different salon, and gave me a beautiful color and style. It was exactly what I was looking for and have received a lot of compliments. It is obvious that she is experienced and looks to give a style that really suits you rather than applying the same technique to everyone. I will definitely be returning.

Darren Pena Salon was my first salon in Tampa after having moved from Michigan, and I stayed with them for two years until I moved further away. I’ve been seen by Autumn (updo and women’s cut), Kortne (two women’s cuts) and Hollie (one women’s cut). I’ve had great experiences with all three ladies. They are all very talented, each with their own style and personality.
Haircuts include a shampoo and scalp massage, which is very nice if you’ve ever had one! They use Pureology products, which are sulfate-​free and 100% vegan. I’m not particular with my hair care products but I did try the Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner, as well as a bottle of Colour Stylist Anti Split Blow Dry Cream. I loved all these products and really felt like they made a difference in the health of my hair. They also lasted quite a long time! I’m just now running out of the blow dry cream, which I received as a gift on my second visit to Darren Pena Salon a couple years ago. Granted, I don’t blow dry my hair often but this cream truly does protect your precious ends!
I really like being able to book online! I also like that they have early appointments as well as late ones, even on Friday evenings when most people are out and about. I often booked the Friday evening appointments because it felt comforting to be among the girls on a Friday night, getting primped and pretty.
I haven’t been back in a while because I was growing my hair long for some time (and I live 45 minutes away). However, I do plan on returning in the near future, especially to pick up some Pureology products! :-)

I’ve been going to Darren Pena for about 4 – 5 months now, and I’ve been seeing the same guy, Travis. This dude is awesome. I showed him one photo of exactly what I wanted, and he has never failed me, only impressed. Highly recommend this place. He does women and men’s hair also. 100% recommended!

I don’t go to salons often, but when I do I want high quality and a fair price. This is exactly what I got at the Darren Pena Salon & Spa. I literally left the salon 20 minutes ago and just HAD to Unilocal about my wonderful experience! Holly cut and blew out my hair. She took me from long, limp, straggly hair to a fun and flirty cut with lots of volume and bounce! I am so thrilled!!! Everyone was very nice-​no snobs here! And they offer you a drink, they have tons of magazines, the salon is clean and trendy, and they have a wide variety of hair products (Redken and Pureology).
Holly was so great – nice, funny, very personable and stylish! I will DEFINITELY be going back to Darren Pena to let her not only cut, but also color my hair.
I am new to Tampa and this salon is really close, I am so pleased that a salon I randomly picked for it’s proximity is likely going to become one of my favorite places to be!

I have been to this salon for both hair and spa treatments. The entire staff is friendly and very knowledgeable in what is best for each client. I was given excellent service before, during and after my appointment. The salon was trendy and the staff was educated in the newest techniques and styles. I love how easy it is to book online and their early/​late hours give me a chance to book appointments to fit in my crazy schedule. I have been to salon and spas in Tampa and in South Tampa and nothing can be compared to Darren Peña Salon & Spa!

Autumn did a great job on my color BUT she charged me an extra $ 40 to blow my hair dry afterwards (which i didn’t know about til i went to pay). How the heck would I know if the color was done right w/​out the blow dry? It should have been included in the color charge. Also, i had a very disappointing eyebrow wax w/​someone new (whose name escapes me). Needless to say, I am never going back.

I had the best expierence at Darren Pena’s Salon :) (Named after the great owner himself!) The staff participated in a work function of mine (Working Women of Tampa Bay’s ’ Think Pink’ and won me over with their fun personalities and kind hearts! The whole staff donated their time and services to help Shriners Children’s Hospitals and to make about 150 women in attendance feel good about themselves too!
Last night I went in and made an apt with Travis and had a wonderful experience and left with some seriously amazing hair! I’d reccomend them to anyone!
