Today i met the rudest salesperson in many years. I have shopped at this store for 3 ½ years and spent thousands; I wear something from Brooks Bros everyday. Today, all I wanted was a replacement button for a sports coat. I entered the store and turned towards the alterations area, hoping someone was back there, as they often are. A woman stood to the left, 10 feet away, and ask what I needed. She told me to come over there, 10 feet away, and she would help me. That immediately struck me as odd… she would not approach me, the customer, but made me come to her. I walked over and said, «there usually someone over there, I thought I’d check». She said, «that’s not true, you were sneaking in», who sneaks into a Brooks Bros… honestly! I looked her in eye and said, «I’ll come back when you aren’t working» and left. I lived in Germany for 4 years, and as soon as she called me over, to help me, instead of approaching me, and then tried twice to correct me, I had flashbacks… Germans know very little about customer service… too bad, i can walk to this store from my house, but as long as that rude woman is there, I can go elsewhere.

I’ve worn Brooks Brothers since I was a little 7yr old monster in penny loafers. I recently stopped in this store during their Corporate Discount event. My company offers us a discount and this sale doubled it. I was looking for an OCBD(Oxford Cloth Button-Down) in Pink and it had to be the one that’s made in the USA — Item# 001E. They didn’t have any shirts that were made in America. I hate it when I go into a store expecting them to have a staple like this and then they try to sell me something else. I don’t go into Bern’s and have them tell me they’re out of steak… and better yet… and then they try to sell me turkey instead. Seriously BB the OCBD should be a staple. It’s like you not having any Repp Striped ties in store :) or those cool silk knot cufflinks. Sure I’ll be back to BB but with a store that big I wish they’d focus on the BB basics instead of the Claudio del Vecchio fashion ca$h grab crap Euro Trash I’ve started to see creep in the Men’s section.

I have shopped at this Brooks Brothers a million times and, sadly, outlasted several of my personal sales associates there. But looking back, they have all been really quite good, and BB provides an exceptionally upscale and consistent sales and service experience. Consequently, I love spending money there, and it is actually quite a treat for me, harkening back to childhood days when my dad would take me to the original location at 346 Madison Ave in NYC. As a young man, I was oh so impressed, and BB has forever been formative in my growth as a gentleman. On to the clothes. Since Claudio Del Vecchio purchased the company in 2001, he has orchestrated a remarkable turnaround that has made BB once again relevant, fresh and the standard of fine fashion for men(and now women and kids). This is consistent with Brooks Brothers heritage, and I have always been impressed with Mr Del Vecchio’s respect and appreciation for this tradition, while transforming BB into a modern powerhouse brand, selling through all channels(online, catalog, in-store, etc.). The clothes are always well tailored, high quality and decently fitting. I must say at this point that almost 100% of my wardrobe comes from BB(even my jeans!), and I have to consciously fight to ensure that my wardrobe contains other labels. There is a lot of value in the BB relationship, and I encourage everyone to shop at this location, a very fine example of the heritage, selection and service that has made BB so successful for over one hundred years and enduring, relevant and stylish today. Bravo!

There I was, wandering through Hyde Park Village, killing some time before my movie started at Cinebistro, when suddenly I spotted a massive Brooks Brothers clothing store advertising the big summer sale on dress shirts & ties. BB’s is located at the intersection of Swann and Dakota Avenues, right near the big Hyde Park Village parking garage. I am probably as fanatic about buying dress shirts and ties as many women are about buying shoes. Unfortunately the combination of traveling and dry cleaners are pretty rough on my shirts & ties, so I need to replenish my wardrobe more frequently than most. Fortunately stores like Brooks Brothers and Nordstrom are more than happy to offer regular sales. Brooks Brothers has very classic menswear with traditional fabrics, colors, and stylings. The clothing is extremely well made, but it is not inexpensive. Customer service is outstanding, and your personal shopper will keep a profile card on you so that they remember your sizes and clothing preferences. The big Summer Clearance Sale at BB was offering 50% off on Men’s dress shirts and ties, so I was able to replace a few items without sending my wallet into cardiac arrest.

I’m rather surprised no one has reviewed Brooks Brothers. BB’s is in this reviewers mind one of the top men’s clothiers, period. It’s too bad for me that I’ve «outgrown» BB’s. Now, the only thing I can fit into is their cologne! So I take the long drive over the bridge a couple times a year just to pick up my 1818 cologne. It’s a rather soft fragrance that doesn’t overwhelm. Which is just what I need in my profession. I do get many complements about it’s light composition. Back in the day, when I wore a younger man’s clothes(didn’t someone say that in a song?) I would linger among the racks and the cubed shelf’s and spend a small fortune(at least in my world) at checkout time. Oh, for those glory days. I would give Brooks Brothers 5 stars, if they had a slightly larger size to offer those of us who could use it.
