Got the jaeger schnitzel. Was very good except that the mushroom sauce was kinda salty. Got the cuc salad which was good. The owner mentioned that he is closing the restaurant in a few weeks, and switching over to a roving food truck. Check out the website for details coming up.

I can’t even begin to say enough good things about this place. As someone who grew up in Europe I have a high standard for schnitzel and this place makes the best! I had the jäger schnitzel(mushroom sauce) and it was seriously delicious. I also ordered a loaf of their bread and a few authentic pretzels to take home. Needless to say some of the pretzels didn’t even make it home to my husband. This place is amazing and if you like German/Austrian food, I would definitely suggest you go to Austrian Peppers. The only problem is that they are only open during the week so you have to plan accordingly.

Very small restaurant but that doesn’t matter because the food was delicious and the service was quick and friendly. We had the German rye bread, potato salad, Chicken Jaeger Schnitzel, and apple strudel with vanilla bean sauce and all of it was perfect.

German food on the run. It’s not fancy here and You will feel like your eating food from home. Everything is home made. My entire family is German and I can tell you this is great German food! Just try it! The owner is super nice too.

I love this place, I went here a few weeks back with a co-worker and ordered the Jagerschnitzel with spaetzle and kraut on the side… I devoured it! It is a cozy establishment but I think that’s what makes it great, it’s like sitting down for a meal in a nice little kitchen with super friendly hosts. Having visited Germany and Austria a couple times I knew I had to try one of the desserts. On this occasion I had a cheese strudel, similar to a cream cheese danish but way better. The best thing about German/Austrian desserts is that they are just the right amount of sweet. Do yourself a favor and give one a try. I wish they were open on the weekend so I could visit more often!

This was a very pleasant surprise. A small restaurant, that closes early and a simple menu did not seem to hold much promise. But my dinner was terrific. Their cucumber salad is well-seasoned and creamy and delicious. I was sad to eat it all so fast. The gulash, was shockingly authentic-tasting. Also well seasoned, the beef chunks were plentiful and tasty, the gravy excellent, and the spatzels just right. And a nice value, too. I only wish they were open later, and on weekends. I’m looking forward to other items on the menu as soon as I can. Congratulations, for getting it right!

So glad I finally was able to check Austrian Peppers out. It is a hidden gem you will find in a nondescript shopping plaza on South Dale Mabry Avenue, fairly close to Kennedy Boulevard. Their hours are very limited and of course, when I am craving their food, they are closed. I went in today for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised. There is very minimal seating in this quaint restaurant, but I was lucky to score a very very small booth. I ordered the Schnitzel Hunter Style Jaeger Schnitzel. For those not familiar with schnitzel, it is a handbreaded deep fried pork or chicken cutlet. It is then covered with a hunter style(mushroom) gravy. The schnitzel was very tasty and the gravy was flavorful. My side dish was the Spaetzle, or Austrian/German Mac n’ Cheese, as I like to call it. The Spaetzle tasted a little bland to me, but then again, I am a salt-a-holic . The owner/staff on duty was very friendly and the ordering process was quick and painless. The food turnaround time was also quick, and I was out of the restaurant in no time. Like I stated earlier, the hours here are minimal. It is probably best this place is closed Saturday through Monday because I would be here all the time. Ordering takeout would probably best better serve you, because there is also minimal seating here. I would definitely recommend this place and I am looking forward to trying additional items on their menu

So, I ate here again and the owner knew who I was from my previous review. hahahhahahhaha! I was a little bit star struck. Any man that has that level of excellence come from his hands, needs a hug. A LONGWARMONE! I ordered the same food because I just had to have it.(Hunter Style Schnitzel, with potato salad and cucumber salad. That mushroom gravy is AMAZING!!! It’s thick, rich, and flavorful. But, this time, I INSISTEDTHATMYCO-WORKERGETFOOD, TOO! She’s never had German food and I like to broaden the horizons of those around me. WEBOTHAGREED that the food here is EVERYTHING!!! The perfect portion sizes to be satisfied but not full with itis taking over the rest of your day. Besides that, a co-worker tasted our food and ordered some THESAMEDAY! ahahaha! I’m sure my raves will send business their way A LOT! We also tried the Apple Crumble cake that was delicous, also. I’m afraid if I have a mediocre piece of food here, I won’t know how to act. The owner reminded me that this week is Black Forrest Cake. Guess that means I’ll be having it again this week.

I had dinner here today. I am german. Born and raised in Germany. So I know what the food is supposed to taste like. My best friend recommended the place and im so glad she did. The place is very small with 6 or so tables but was clean and they had nice music playing. The staff was very friendly and talked to me for a while about the food. I had Curry Wurst and french fries and my friend had Jäger Schnitzel and fries. Both great and very nice size portions. No complaints about anything we ate. I will be going back soon. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to try some authentic German/Austrian food. The sell german bead also and I bought a small loaf. I loved it in the restaurant so I got one.

Authentic mom & pop German, offering the staple meals and to die for desserts and breads. I came and and had a great experience– schnitzel, applesauce, sauerkraut, apple strudel. Oh. My God. It was so good! Flavorful, satisfying. I did take my order to go, which was prepared quickly and I was on my way home to dig in. I would absolutely love to add Austrian Peppers into a regular rotation :)

Yummy Austrian-German food in a random strip mall. I don’t know how this place survives. I was the only person there. Goodness knows the location is horrid. But the food seems authentic and tastes good. And the staff is friendly and clearly wants to share their food with the Tampa community. I tried the currywurst. That was a huge sausage covered in a tangy curry sauce. It is traditionally served with french fries. I was a little underwhelmed by the french fries, but everything else was good. The prices are not cheap, but they do serve up hearty portions.

Quick Summary: A nice shop to get something different than the usual lunch fair. The service is very friendly and the food tasty, overall a great value. Seeking a change from my normal midday fare, I was happy to this shop. As soon as I came in I could tell the service was going to be good; the proprietor behind the counter greeted me with one of the biggest warmest smiles I’ve seen in a while. She offered me a taste of some of the sides and gave me recommendations for the main course. Not having it in a while I figured I’d go with the schnitzel; which if you haven’t had before is a lightly breaded fried tenderized portion of meat. I really enjoyed it, though it’s fried I didn’t get that ‘heavy’ feeling of eating fried foods; I recommend having it with the cucumber salad, which gives a little kick. Before the schnitzel was ready, she brought me out a bit of german bread to tide me over. Good chewy interior with a light crust on the outside… I love bread a good bread. The shop itself has a nice diner feel with plenty of booths and seating. I also spied a very nice collection of dessert cakes that I will have to partake in next time. Overall a good experience and a good value for lunch. Next time I’m gonna go for one of the sausages!

Wonderful German/Austrian food at very reasonable prices, served with friendly efficency. But be forewarned… its location makes it hard to reach when traffic is heavy on Dale Mabry. If coming from any direction but south, it is best to come south on Sterling or Himes and turn onto Cleveland to find the place in a strip mall facing Dale Mabry. And inside the narrow room, there are only 5 booths seating 4 each. Fortunately we brought guests for an early dinner and got to chat with the owner about the food and his plans, which include getting a beer/wine license next month, then a food truck and maybe a larger place closer to MacDill AFB. As appetizer, we tried the large soft pretzels, made from dough kneaded in Germany. All the breads are German origin but baked on-site and available as loaves to go. Marvelous seedless rye. Menu has a wide selection of schnitzels and some wursts. I tried the currywurst that is a fusion that is hard to find in US but common street food in Austria/Germany. My wife loved the cordon blue and guests enjoyed their schnitzels. The sides are great… kraut, cucumber salad, spaetzle, applesauce. Nice options for children… not just hot dogs or chicken nuggets. Some tempting desserts… including the unique Austrian Kaiserscheren(?) a thick, sweet pancake served with powdered sugar and appleauce. Must try the Black Forest cake later… but got a free sample of thier apple cake/kuchen…excellent. We wish them well with their expansion plans and will watch for their food fruck.

Oh my gosh this place is terrific, and you need to go there for lunch as soon as possible! Austrian Peppers is a small café located about a block south of the intersection of Dale Mabry and Kennedy in a miniature strip mall in between Shell’s seafood restaurant and a Jiffy Lube. It would be very easy to sail right past this location because the traffic is so awful on this stretch of Dale Mabry, but you would be making a terrible mistake to overlook the restaurant. It is honestly easier to drive south of the restaurant and then circle back north on Dale Mabry to get into their parking lot. This is an authentic Austrian restaurant, and the food is similar to what you will find in restaurants from Germany and Hungary. The menu has schnitzels, goulash(beef stew), cheese noodles, Austrian meatballs, and German brats. The schnitzel is a pork or chicken cutlet that has been pounded flat, seasoned to your choice, and then hand breaded, lightly fried and served with two sides. Everything on the menu is made from scratch using fresh ingredients, so you know that you’re getting an authentic taste from this part of Europe. The people working here are from Austria, and they are very proud of their heritage and their excellent food. For my lunch I tried the Paprika Veal Schnitzel which had a delicious smoky flavor. You can also order Garlic, Curry, or Hunter-style Jaeger Schnitzel which comes with a dark brown mushroom gravy. For my two side I had a warm German potato salad which is made fresh daily with golden potatoes, onions, apple cider vinegar, oil and bacon bits; and a delicious creamy cucumber salad with lots of fresh dill. You could also order mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, pasta salad, fries, applesauce, or a side salad. As if that wasn’t enough, the owner came by our table and brought us some«sample tastes» of their homemade Black Forest Cake and the Chocolate Truffle Cake. Wow!!! The pastries are just amazing, and you can order them by the slice, or even a whole cake to take home. The restaurant is tiny with about 5 booths inside, but they were doing a brisk lunch business, and offer both carry-out and delivery service. Austrian Peppers is only open Tuesday through Friday from 11am till just past the dinner rush. Very excellent and affordable ethnic food just over the line in South Tampa.

I’m so happy I found this place! It’s another restaurant I never would have found on my own. I saw that several of my Unilocal friends had spoken favorably of it so I decided to give it a try. This is a really tiny restaurant. There’s only around four booths in the entire place. There was an extremely nice woman working there who was our waitress, cook, and cashier. I’m not really familiar with German/Austrian food so I wasn’t really sure what to order. I ended up getting a chicken schnitzel, which is a thin piece of meat that is breaded and fried, with a side of potato salad and fries. I was not prepared for how enormous the schnitzels would be. It was actually way too much food for me. Luckily they have a schnitzel sandwich, which I am looking forward to trying next time. The schnitzel was quite tasty and not greasy at all. The potato salad was magnificent. Possibly the best I’ve ever had. I also got to sample the cucumber salad as well as bow tie pasta. They were good, but nowhere near as good as the potato salad. After finishing we ordered the dessert that was available, which was German coffee cake. It was still warm and it was excellent. I’m really looking forward to trying their other desserts. I worry about this place being able to find an audience. I never would have spotted it while driving down Dale Mabry. I didn’t even see it initially after I was in the parking lot! Hopefully word of mouth will spread about this place. edit: For my second visit I tried the schnitzel sandwich, which was the perfect size. I had to have a side of that amazing potato salad again of course. For dessert I chose the chocolate cake. I was surprised when she explained that it had apricot jelly in it. I thought that that sounded so strange but I really liked it. All of that cost me less than eight dollars. One of the people I was with got the apple dessert to go and he later said that he loved it. edit2: After several trips here I have to bump my review up to five stars. The food here is so delicious and the people who run it are so nice. I’ve sampled several desserts and have been impressed by all of them. The piece of chocolate cake I got this time was different from the one I had on my second trip. It might be the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had.

Why 4 stars? Because I love food from this region. — — — I can’t believe I have never even noticed Austrian Peppers before. I must have driven past it 500 times in my life, but was only able to find it due to GPS. It is certainly a tiny place. I went with my usual — schnitzel. I usually like mine with the Jäger sauce, but that was not offered here… it was a little bit more dry than I prefer, but still solid. My favorites were the side dishes. Germans/Austrians do potato salad so much better than we do. I can’t get enough of it. I also had my first experience with cucumber salad, which I also loved. They had a picture on the menu of the most awe inspiring cake I’d ever seen. I can’t even begin to describe what it was, but it looked like it might possible be the best thing I would ever put in my mouth. Unfortunately, this was right before Christmas, and they were out of it. Apparently the cakes that they have vary from time to time, so hopefully I can catch them with it in stock next time.
