My Charlie loves the dog park. We have been coming here for 5 years. I only wish it was a little bigger.

I’ve been here a few times. There is a small dog & large doc section. Nothing to write home about but it’s clean and well maintained. Good people & good dogs are found here. There’s a water fountain for the dogs that some times work; a few covered areas to sit, and the entrances are double fenced.

Rita doesn’t go to the dog park all that frequently these days because I bought a house with a big yard just for her. It seems however that she has grown tired of her yard and it doesn’t have all the smells she wants. I assume this because every time I take her into the unfenced front yard she is much more apt to running and playing, but it gives me anxiety not to have her in a fenced area so I decided to give the dog park another try. This was my first time at Gary B. Jones Park, and I think I’ve been to most of the other parks in the area. Incidentally this one is probably closest to my house, and after this experience this will probably be my go to park. Despite Unilocal’s map location, this park is actually on the northwest corner of University and Southgate. Entering the park I was super impressed with the gate setup. Double gates are very important at a dog park, and this one has multiple. There is a double gate entering the park, in which you find yourself in a courtyard type area. From there, there are two more double gates, one into a small dog area, and one into a large dog area. So essentially your dog would have to get through 4 gates to be able to escape the park unattended. This is good piece of mind for people like me who don’t want their fur children out of their sight. Being only 10 lbs, Rita and I stayed in the small dog section. They have a paved path around the perimeter so I was able to get her to do a few laps with me. The grass is soft and well kept, though the style of grass they have is a little on the longer side(not that it isn’t mowed well, it’s just a thicker grass) so Rita with her tiny legs had to do some bounding to get through it, though this is exactly why I brought her here, for exercise. There were a decent number of other people and small dogs there for the after work crowd on Monday, and everyone was friendly and all the dogs were very well behaved. Rita was able to find a like-minded companion and they lounged in the shade, not really why I brought her here, but at least she made a friend, There are a number of shaded pavilions with benches as well as water fountains with three tiers so the dogs can drink out of the ground level tier. There is also a hose/bath station, though this was in the large dog area. Due to the proximity to my home, and how well kept this park was, as well as the safety features and amenities it offers, I’m sure Rita and I will be back, even if it is only so she can lounge in the shade.

I’ve been here a few times when visiting family in the neighborhood. Haven’t had any bad experiences, and I’ve never been when it’s just too crowded — usually there might be up to a dozen or so other dogs. There’s a water fountain for the dogs, some covered areas to sit, and the entrances are suitably secure. These days, Abbey isn’t much for all-out running. She’s more about trotting around smelling butts and laying in the grass. But hey, I don’t judge. :-)

Most dog parks are not taken care of. This park is. Plenty of room for the dogs to run around and wear off their energy. For the most part the owners are friendly and almost everyone picks up after their dogs. Fun place to go and let our puppy let it all out.

Not putbull friendly just like Tamarac is not. They want you to register your dog with the city for $ 50 and then have a $ 100,000 insurance policy on them. How about the other owners and dogs? I will not be shopping or be associated with anything Tamarac related anymore because they have BSL rules.

Great park to spend some time with your big or little four-legged child(ren). I’ve been takin gmy dog here since it opened and love the smaller area at times because I can keep a close eye on my big guy while I walk the track or chat with others. The only draw-back is that there always seems to be one wet patch somewhere on the big’s side, either near the pavilion or near the front. It has something to do with the water pipes, but it could make for a muddy puppy. Good thing they have the bath station(although the hose is either a hit or miss type of thing). With those two things in mind, I still go back time and again with my dog so it’s really a non-issue. Also– some people tend to get a little uncomfortable with more than one Bully in the park at a time, but quite frankly, I’ve never had an aggressive Bully come at my dog. It’s usually an owner of a smaller breed that shouldn’t be in the big dogs’ side that goes on high alert. The Bully owners’ that come there tend to be more responsible and their dog’s demeanor shows it.

DONOT waste your time. we had brought our dog here a few times and out of the blue some dilllhole cop starts kicking everyone out for not having there dogs registered to the city with a 1,000 dollar insurance policy. at first i thought it was just because my dog is a pit bull but he was doing it to plenty of people whose dogs were clearly not pits. im sorry, but my dog deserves to be in that park just like everyone elses. she has her vaccinations and has never even growled at anyone. ive seen yorkies more dangerous. stuff like this makes me sick. do not support a place that does not support ALLDOGS!

The Gary B. Jones Park for People and Pups is a dog park just west of University Dr. on Southgate Blvd. in Tamarac. We’ve been many times, as the next closest park for us is Woodville on Mcnab and that one is filled with dirt because the grass never takes root. So Gary B. Jones it is! It’s nice — pretty large main area for the big dogs and a fair sized small dog area. There’s also a place to hose your dog down or give a bath and water fountains for both people and the pups. They could use a few more of the fountains, there is only 1 in each area so it is beneficial to bring a water bowl and leave it wherever you end up. There are bags placed around the park for you to pick up your dog’s eliminations and trash cans right underneath the bag stand. In both the small and large area there is a winding walkway with shaded benches. I do miss having a kiddie pool around. There are none here and my pup can get rather hot and loves to dunk. I do believe I will buy one and leave it there next time we go. :)
