I think this place gets better every time I visit. I love the array of the vegetable dishes. The fish and the shrimp have a light crispy breading. The desserts are delicious — chocolate Texas style sheet cakes, red velvet cake, billowy meringue topped banana pudding, and raisin studded bread pudding, and more. The service is friendly and the hot bar is refilled frequently. Loosen your belt before you visit.

I went here twice in the last couple of weeks after laying off for awhile. The first visit on a Friday was disappointing. There were few cars in the parking lot and few diners. They had changed their opening time to 11 a.m. The meat entres were just not as good and the price was still $ 12.99. The service was still good, but I just had a feeling the dew was off the lily and the decline had begun. We tried them again today(a Monday) and it was much better. The entre choices were much better and the southern style veggies were still good. The service was excellent. And to top it off the weekday lunch price is now $ 10.99. I have always felt that the quality of the food here justified the higher price than some other buffets in town.

At the advice from other reviews on Unilocal,my husband and I visited Wilderness Cabin today for their Sunday brunch and we were extremely dissatisfied. First the bad news: Before getting past the front door, you enter in where the food is. Don’t panic and don’t look for more, that’s it right there… there’s no more. There’s no real«salad» bar; pick up your plate at the front of the line by the desserts, then move to the veggies, before you get to the meats. The entire set up is bass-ackwards! 1. If you are looking for some great fried chicken, don’t look for the white meat — they didn’t have any. The thighs were fatty and the batter — salty! 2. Who needs three kinds of greens in a small buffet, apparently they do. None of them were marked to tell you whats what. 3. Roast beef — choose only if you want to look at a pile of fat on the plate. 4. Roasted chicken(again no white meat) was so dry, it was painful to eat. The«gravy» while quite unique(having chunks of boiled egg in it) was too rich to add any relief. Checking out: Sure, that’s by the front door. There’s a little table with a cashbox(not really, but she gave me the charge slips to sign on a clipboard — with other charge slips right underneath mine!!). These are just some of the«little» things we ran across on our first and only visit. If you are comparing this place based on the place in Thomasville, because they are owned by the same person? Shame on you! They are nothing alike! I don’t care if they just opened the doors yesterday; there’s just certain things you don’t do!

Its southern cooking cooked by real southern folks. It isn’t gourmet or even Paula Deen. Its the food your Mama made, pretty much the way she made it. They have fried pork chops and banana pudding.

Very good all-u-can eat. The place smells fresh and clean(not sour and dirty like most I’ve been to). The food is very good and fresh. Not much of a salad bar(just lettuce, cheese, croutons), but you don’t go to a place like this for the salad anyway. Deserts were good, but they ran out of banana pudding before we had a chance to get some. We hoped more would come out(and were told that it would), but we eventually had to leave without it. They also have a menu to order from if buffet is not your style. I’ve eaten there for both lunch and supper and there wasn’t a difference in quality. Both were very good.

Having mixed feelings about our dining experience tonight. All 4 of us got the buffet. The vegetables that we had were quite tasty. Collard greens, rutabaga, etc. The salad bar did not have a lot of offerings but it’s my understanding that it had more than it did last week. The fried chicken was disappointing as it was dried out. The bay scallops were fresh and sweet. Some of the different varieties of shrimp were good(bang bang) and some was kinda blah(fried). One thing I noticed was that every fried dish all used the same exact batter. That makes everything taste the same and lacks imagination. Finally the peach cobbler had a righteous topping. The peaches tasted good but it was a little runny(undercooked). This was fine by me, but others like their cobbler to be «set» a little better. The service was good.

Went for«brunch» yesterday, Sunday. The food was really amazing, even had a carving station with roast beef. My wife, who had never been, was skeptical of another«Southern» buffet in Tally — even if it is owned by the same folks as in Thomasville. Service was very kind and helpful. The brunch price is a bit high, $ 14.99 for adults, and kids are priced out by age — again, slightly high(mine don’t eat very much, so it is hard to rationalize). We will be coming back, for sure, despite the prices. It was that good.

Well, my wife and I went to this establishment today to try it out for the first time. The décor is very rustic and had a warm country feel to it. Now for the bad news. The salad bar was very small with very little salad toppings to choose from. The main buffet had a lot of choices to choose from. However, on my plate the fried chicken was very dry, the cheese grits were sour tasting, the hoe cakes were dry, and the cream corn tasted fresh from a can. My wife’s plate had lima beans that tasted like the cook put a whole salt shaker in it, the fried catfish was so tough that you could not even tear it apart, the only thing that we both agreed was even slightly good was the mashed potatoes and gravy. Left on the main bar was fried shrimp that the batter was falling off of, the meatloaf was just crumbled hamburger, the tomato & rice looked like soup, and the rest looked so gross that it does not even need to be mentioned. The sweet tea and the unsweet tasted bad as well. What little we did eat made our stomachs hurt and we felt the need to brush our teeth right after leaving. Then came the bill, We took the bill up to the register where a really nice elderly lady began to ring us up. I felt like we just got robbed. $ 11.99 each for the buffet and 1.99 each for a glass of nasty tea and after the tax was added to the bill we spent $ 30.06 for one of the worst meals that we have had. We have agreed that we will never return to this establishment.

This place made my stomach explode — in the best way. My step-inlaws took us here when we came to visit their family on a trip in FL… its a buffet where you pay a reasonable price and then jump in line and breathe in the magic. You kick things off with mac n cheese(not the best Ive ever had but its a staple!) — jump into fried chicken(light and dark meat is labeled), fried chicken livers/kidney? and fried fish(this was AMAZING — a must get!). You maneuver your meat around to make room for the sides: mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, collards, mustard greens, lima beans, something with bacon on it, rudabega — your eyes get wider and wider as you turn every corner(yes, the buffet is so long you turn a corner!). Eventually, you make it down to the sweet potato casserole(too sweet for my liking unfortunately) and dessert: I grabbed a little bread pudding and some chocolate jello-mousse thing… I didnt have biceps strong enough to carry my trophy plate back to the table! The choices adjust with what’s fresh and in season — so come frequently. The owner is just a gem. The décor is. wild.(PS: if you go to the bathroom, bucks are men and does are women — dont go into the wrong bathroom!) I dont live in the area, but Id be 50lb heavier if I did because this place would on my regular rotation!

Canned veggies and cold entrees are not what I call good food. SOOOOO many old people. Always a red flag. The«salad bar» was romaine and iceberg lettuce, pickles, cucumbers, eggs, and french dressing. Lots of cold salads, none of which looked appetizing to me. the croutons were stale and hard. I actually spit it out. If you like chicken they have a bunch of that. The Salisbury Steak was cold. Oh… also everything was under the holding temps. Not a SINGLETHING was hot. NOW… the Beef stew was alright and so was the fried catfish, but the catfish was frozen not fresh. The potatoes were instant. Our waitress was nice and place was clean. Also the décor was nice. So 2 stars overall, but 1 star for the food. I dont recommend it.

The food have very good favor, very fresh. You have about 30+ options, including meat, salad, fish, and dessert. Monday to Friday is $ 10 all u can eat for lunch, on Saturday is $ 11. This restaurant is very clean, and well decorated. So far, this is my favorite restaurant in town. We will definitely come back often.

I’ve gone twice and it was great both times. I looooove the Market Diner in Thomasville, so when I heard a similar place would be opening at the old Buckhead Brewery, I was excited. The food is great if you enjoy southern cuisine, and the service was wonderful as well. Just remember to wear stretchy pants because you will leave feeling stuffed.

This place is a buffet force to be reckoned with. The atmosphere is fun and the foood… omg the food. If you want southern food, drive to this place as quick as humanly possible.

Delicious! If you like traditional southern food, this is for you. Meatloaf was amazingly good. Buffet included mashed potatoes, greens, lima beans, black eyed peas, cornbread, fried chicken, pork, several other meats, fish and just so much more. It was well seasoned and yummy.

Lunch at the wilderness cabin today was an excellent start to the holiday weekend. Service and food are both top notch. Buffet had a large variety of items that were constantly being replenished. There was too much for one person to try, so I can tempted myself with a modest lunch of sweet potato casserole, turnip greens, okra and tomatoes, mashed potatoes and brown gravy, fried chicken, fried mullet, fried catfish, fried shrimp, incredibly delicious shrimp and grits, best bread pudding ever, and best banana pudding ever.

Came in for the first time on a Sunday. Buffet was just ok, and had minimal flavor(which should be expected from a buffet because it feeds lots of people and the cooks cannot please everyone’s seasoning wishes). What was not expected was the price…$ 13.99 + $ 1.89 for drink(which I did not know before I sat down). At that price I expect some sort of seafood offering or lots of different meat options. They had a few different types of fish(no shellfish at all) and one guy on the carving block(also with the standard of chicken). I will most definitely not be back. There are other buffets in town that are cheaper and just as good. On a positive note… the staff was A++. Our waitress was wonderful and always kept our glasses full, and the bus boys cleared everything efficiently.

If you like eating food with no flavor, you’ve come to the right place. The check-out process is still in the 1980’s so it takes some time to check out. Make sure to double check your bill because they tried to charge me and the couple behind me .99 for water. The salad bar should be renamed because it isn’t a true salad bar. Should be called«Lettuce and 3 other things». The one highlight was the Chicken Livers were good and the silverware was pretty cool.

While I probably wouldn’t ordinarily take time to review a buffet, Wilderness Cabin is no ordinary buffet. My family and I have paid several visits over the years to the Market Diner in Thomasville, GA, so I was excited to learn that the owner would be opening a restaurant in Tallahassee. I decided to wait a week before going, so as to allow the staff time to workout the kinks. I went on a weekday at about 2pm. This is important because visiting a buffet after the lunch rush is often risky. However, I found everything to be as fresh as I would have expected. As at the Market Diner, the veggies were fresh and delicious. All of the meat selections that I tried were fantastic, with the exception of the roast turkey which was a bit dry. I can’t wait to return with my family. If good southern comfort food is what you need, Wilderness Cabin has you covered.

Buffet lunch only for now. Servers friendly and attentive. Great vegetables on the food bar. Salad bar offerings slim. Only meats on the lunch buffet were fried chicken, fried chicken livers and gizzards, and thin sliced fried beef liver and onions. Huge cinnamon rolls this family is known for are absent at this Tallahassee location. Buffet not worth the price they charge for the very limited meat selections. We’ll wait a month or two to see if their fare improves. Lunch for two with tea/cola around $ 23.00.

I moved back to TLH in 2005 and I believe this building(Buckhead Brewery) was closed even then. 10 years later, regional home-cooking legend Mary Graham just opened up Wilderness Cabin. Think of this place as a premier purveyor of all things Comfort Foodesque. We went today and it’s a virtual CC of the fare which her Farmers Market restaurant is known for up in Thomasville. Sure-to-please Southern comfort foods — and all the usual suspects are found in the buffet line. What I’m particularly interested in is the seafood buffet(I didn’t see it for lunch today) and the wild game dishes. I suspect both might be dinner or weekend options. Self-proclaimed«Foodies» often turn their noses up to country-fare buffets and the like — in large part due to a belief that delicately balanced, cutting-edge or even foreign dishes are superior. To those folks, I’ll just say that this Wilderness Cabin has no need for pretense, can bank on an inherent local population of enthusiasts for its fare, and if we’re all honest with ourselves — deep down, even the most developed gastro-curmudgeon has a soft spot for comfort foods. All that said, if the general population buffet doesn’t entice — then I’m confident the seafood or wild game dishes will!
