G&G Caribbean Restaurant

The Snapper is yum yum. I feel like an addict every time I pass by — I stop in to check to see if it is on the menu. Fortunately, they only have it occasionally — the rice & peas, cabbage are all great too. To get the other star would mean they have Ginger Beer, maybe some Marley beverages and regularly scheduled snapper days. It is an authentic Carribean food experience.

As I walked into this restaurant it had a bad odor. It smelled like fish and bleach. The woman in there wasn’t very personable at all. I didn’t feel welcomed. I ordered a small ox tail with peas and rice, steamed cabbage and a side of Mac and cheese. When I got home to eat my food. I was very disappointed. The meat tasted sweet and didn’t have much flavor at all. The rice and peas lacked seasoning and spice. The Mac and cheese tasted artificial and disgusting.
I’m from Fort Lauderdale which is full of diversity and especially Caribbean cuisine. So I took a chance trying Jamaican food in Tallahassee, but I’ll stick to home. Rude review? Maybe but I’m honest. Flavor is needed. Spice as well. But either way I will not return.

I don’t know what this one star guy was talking about. But the oxtail here would totally knock your socks off!
The restaurant itself doesn’t have much to look at. But there is deff more than to meets the eye: the food! I’ve only had the oxtail but I have to say it was among the best I’ve had. So tender, juicy, and flavorful. I ate the entire order with rice with beans and cabbage in one sitting. It was huge. Oh how could I forget that I also ate a beef patty, spicy goodness. I just couldn’t stop eating. Then next thing I knew I was in food coma for like the rest of the day!
I have yet to try the jerk chicken, curry goat, and brown stew chicken. The Jamaican oxtail is just too good I always order it by default. I swear I’ll have to try the rest of the menu.
If you like Caribbean/​Jamaican food, give G&G a shot!

worst Jamaican food I have ever had. tasted like it had been sitting there all day and was just so bad.

(I’ve just read the other six reviews (there should be way more) and feel it’s necessary to defend the proprietor’s short and seemingly curt demeanor but deflect any label of them being «rude». It’s true that a smile can take an agonizingly long time to appear on the proprietor lady’s sweet face, but when you show yourself to her — her eyes smile and then you can see the beginnings of a friendly smile. She’s really a sweet lady — every bit as sweet as her food is delicious.)

Surprisingly, you’re the only game in town — and have been so at least since I’ve returned to florida’s pearl in 2005.
There was a time when I frequented your venue biweekly, but those days are in the past given that my place of business happens to be directly downstairs from where I slumber, no longer a convenient 5 minute drive away.
Nonetheless, today reminded me that I’ve not been faithful and that I owe you more that a semi-​annual visit. Heck, I owe myself a more frequent visit!
Anyway — today’s oxtails with yellow rice and cabbage was as great as it always was — and the vita malt was most kind to the palette.
Next visit will line up with your curried goat or red snapper!

Good tasting food yet not the best I’ve had. They’re a lil grumpy so be nice if you want better service

The ambience of restaurant gives you a real mom and pop feel. It looks just like a normal diner with booths set all around the room.
When we got there, there was one lady working the counter and she looked like she did not want to be there. When we came up I ordered the jerk chicken with the yellow rice and cabbage. I wanted to order the famous Jamaican patties I’ve heard about but they were done for the day.
The food was decently priced, and extremely good. The rice was extremely moist and the chicken was awesome. The only thing was there were a ton of bones throughout the chicken.
Overall it was a decent experience and I would go again to try the patties and the curry goat.

The oxtails aren’t the BEST but the brown stew chicken is amazing! Prices are decent as well. The people there are not that friendly and the restaurant isn’t spic and span but still worth a try.

Food was delicious! But the restaurant was kind of dirty and the lady behind the counter (the cook?) Was incredibly rude. I orders one thing that they had (I could see it) and she said no, apparently she didn’t know what to charge for it so she decided not to sell it to me. She also yelled at my boyfriend, she just said «sauce» and he said excuse me because he wasn’t sure if she meant do you want sauce or what type of sauce or what the question was. So she yelled «DO YOU WANT SAUCE OR NO» at him. All in all the portions are huge the food is great and if you don’t mind rude people yelling at you and possibly not getting everything you order this is the place for you.

I love Caribbean food. Spicy, savory, slow cooked and delicious. I am forever chasing that first taste of curry goat I had years ago at a friend’s house.
I found G&G while on my way to Brooklyn Pizza which is in the same plaza. Unfortunately G&G was closed for the night or I would never have made it into Brooklyn Pizza. Today I decided to try G&G for lunch. Best Beef Patties I have ever had!
The restaurant is small, clean and smells wonderful. I went a little crazy and ordered Brown Stew Chicken, Curry Chicken, and Oxtails for lunch along with 2 Beef Patties. The portions are huge for the price and everything was delicious. Needless to say I didn’t finish everything, but I sure tried. I will be eating this wonderful food for dinner and probably lunch tomorrow.
To sum it up, I am so glad I found this gem of a place. Nothing disappointing from the service, to the food quality, or the price. Everything was better than expected.
I am one happy boy.
