I went by on a Sunday night because the Unilocal app showed they were open. However, they are closed on Sundays, so I came back tonight, a Monday, and was glad I made the trip back. I was immediately greeted and shown a table, served water and asked for my drink order right away. Of course it was a quiet moment, but sometimes those are the worst for service. I ordered the chef’s seafood dish and a ginger beer and was very happy with my meal. The food had generous amounts of basil(often skimped on at this time of year), which I love, and the jasmine rice was of the brown variety, served in a cone-shaped mound on a large plate. The seafood curry came in a foil swan boat on a tray — at first I thought it was a take-home box for someone else. It was hard to neatly and efficiently spoon the rich broth and goodies out of the swan. Maybe there’s a technique I don’t know about, but it was worth the effort. The seafood was even more generous than the basil — there were about six mussels, a couple of large scallops, at least a half-dozen shrimp, some lovely pieces of snapper, and another eight or so thick but tender cylinders of squid. I love squid when it’s done right, and this was perfect. While I came very close to devouring the whole thing, I eventually had to surrender while just pleasantly full. Service was attentive throughout, but never intrusive, and I felt welcome even when the place began to fill up with other diners.

Our foursome went to the new Bahn Thai for dinner and we were all pleasantly surprised with the changes. The curry and stir fry were delicious & the portions ample. The appetizers especially the avocado spring rolls were excellent. The service was prompt but could have been a tad more personable & we are not a fan of styrofoam take-out containers. Overall a great experience and we can’t wait to go back.

I am sticking with 5 stars! The red thai curry was excellent and the salad so yummy! Lunches are 7.95 and very good. The place is clean and classy. The sushi bar isn’t in yet but they have made progress since the last time I was in. I will be a regular here for lunch so I can work through the entire menu. Once again, the presentation was excellent. My only lunch wish is that they would have a cup of Thom Ka soup instead of a bowl. I’ll try that next time! Another 5 star day. I had Thom Kai Gai soup that was a bowl of yumminess. The broth was not spicy but next time, I order it hotter. The flavors were very nice. Hubby had his usual of chicken Pad Thai and I thought it was great!

I have been going to Bahn Thai since the late 80s when they had a lunch buffet Mon-Fri. The food has always been amazing. I love the menu options. Food was fresh and delicous… Our wait person was very nice and extremely helpful with menu choices. Food came out hot and beautiful… I no longer live in Tallahassee, but I will make sure I stop by Bahn Thai whenever I visit. I was given a tip by new manager that $ 5 martini specials will start sometime next year.

New owners have resurrected this local favorite. Love the new look! The food quality was excellent. The portions were generous and the playing was perfect. Service was great! Really enjoyed our dinner tonight, first time for me since they changed ownership. I’ll be back again and will definitely tell all my friends about the new Bahn Thai! Also enjoyed meeting the new owner from Redondo Beach! He said there are new additions in the works for the expanded space and I can’t wait!

Tallahassee, FL: It’s only my first Thai place in Tallahassee but if this place is this good, I can’t wait to see the other restaurants. The lunch special is a well-priced $ 7.00 for a main dish and yummy salad. I ordered the yellow curry with tofu while other members of the lunch group ordered the Pad Thai, sushi rolls, and drunken noodles. The only complaint was that the members of the group that specifically ordered«extra spicy» were let down by dishes that were«mildly spicy.» I ordered«mild to medium» spice and was impressed by a mild but flavorful dish. From what I understand, this was the first Thai restaurant in Tally and has recently been taken over by new management. I hope they keep up whatever they’re doing because this was the best yellow curry I’ve had in the past couple years. Way to set the standard Bahn Thai. :)

If you love Thai food and you’re in Tallahassee, there’s a new game in town. Well, actually, it’s an old one that’s been reborn. Bahn Thai was our first Thai place. Early in my career, when I worked for the Secretary of State at the Capitol, I ate there about once a week. Hadn’t been there in years. They’d fallen on hard times. Went down hill. Heard they closed. Well, they’ve reopened with new owners, redecorated, have a fresh, clean look and the food I tried during today’s lunch visit with two friends was exceptional. Maybe the best Pad Thai I’ve had anywhere. Had a taste of one friend’s red curry and Tom Gha soup and both were also excellent, as was the crab Rangoon and dumplings the three of us shared. The spring rolls were pretty puny(I just cannot find a decent egg roll or spring roll in this town), but all in all, Bahn Thai has won back an old fan. Definitely worth trying.

If i could up this review, i would. New to Tallahassee? We have a number of Thai restaurants to choose from, however THIS one is a must. 1. History(Bahn Thai has been here ATLEAST since 1988 when I first came). 2. New management(a very welcome change, as the waning days of Bahn Thai 1.0 were bleak). New ownership has invested in décor, a sushi bar and a complete menu overhaul. Been to Bahn Thai before — but not in the last six months? Above paragraph also applies to you. In fact, you ESPECIALLY need to go, because your last experience likely didn’t sit well with you. In short, Bahn Thai has reclaimed its rightful hegemonic state over TLH’s Thai options.

Complete and total redemption. On advice of Unilocal friends we decided to give them another try(honestly, without their suggestions we probably would never have gone back). The new waitress, Rosa, is fantastic. And it turns out the person who likely served us last time may have been their bookkeeper(If you put someone in the front of the house, they will have a tremendous impact on your service. In our case the bookkeepers impact was severely negative). The place was busy, but not crowded. Rosa greeted everyone, was attentive to needs(and offered sound advice to some tables) and kept the dining room spotlessly clean. A 180 degree turnaround from our last experience. The food was fantastic. The Krab Rangoon are now home made(last time they were clearly purchased frozen) and despite using fake crab, they were delicious. And the Green Papaya salad had a perfect balance of flavors. We also had some of the best Pad See Ewe I’ve had in tally, a great Panang Curry, and a well executed Cashew Nut stir fry. All of the veggies were tender-crisp and the meat cooked perfectly. And each side of rice was generous in portion. I can honestly say that this is now our favorite Thai restaurant. The front of house staff can make or break a dining experience just as easily as the kitchen staff. Rosa helped ensure we had a great dining experience, and the kitchen delivered fantastic food. I’m so glad we were encouraged to come back again, and this will certainly not be our last visit.

I hope more people learn about this hidden gem so it can stay open. Food is phenomenal. Service is great and again, food is phenomenal. What more can you say? Love it.

I came here for the first time under new management and was pleasantly surprised. The new owners have clearly spent a lot of time and money upgrading the interior of the place. One of them We ordered several appetizers, my favorite was the pork skewers. I had the Pad Thai as an entrée. It has been a few years since I’ve been here so I can’t honestly compare it to what it used to be, but it was really great. Very good sized portion too!

The Bahn Thai, under new management, has greatly improved in every way. The food is authentic and very good, well prepared and presented. The buffet is gone and there is a lunch menu with reasonably priced items. They also had a list of sushi specials which I did not try. If you remember when the Bahn Thai was the best in this region, before Pam and Supon moved to Gainesville, the new folks are trying to get there.

This was recommended by a friend, as we are only in Tally for work. Apparently it is under new management, but staff was super friendly, food was delicious(yellow curry with shrimp)… and they created my friends dish just for her. From our experience. highly recommended!!!

I absolutely love this place! I went to one of the top Thai places in Los Angeles and tried yellow curry for the first time. I was hoping the food would compare and it sure did! Instead of the curry having zucchini I got carrots instead because that’s how it was made the first time I had it. I also added chicken. Food came out steaming hot and delicious. Also had a side of calamari which was fried to perfection. Will be returning very soon…

I’m absolutely thrilled to return to this old Tallahassee institution and be able to reward it 5 Stars. After providing Tallahassee excellent Thai cuisine for over three decades, «Mama Sue» retired and sold her establishment to a paisan who has continued serving up top-notch, authentic Thai food. I’ve visited Bahn Thai a half dozen or so times since I first moved to Tallahassee several years ago. What kept me coming was the great food, including the exquisite sticky rice dessert and best Thai iced tea I’ve ever had. My only complaint was the drab interior that appeared as if it hadn’t been updated since the restaurant was first opened. Frankly, it was depressing and didn’t look or smell good. I would have sadly hesitated to take guests there because it was that bad. But those days are gone. The new owner has obviously invested a pretty penny in updating Bahn Thai’s interior. It is fresh, modern and inviting. But the best part is the food is as good or better than before! The presentation was beautiful and the service was great. Today I started off with an order of the summer rolls, which were fresh and delicious. For dinner I had the«Four Hour Massaman Curry Braised Beef.» This is an absolute must-try; it’s probably one of the best asian dishes I’ve ever had. And for dessert I had the aforementioned sticky rice and the«Thai Custard»(pictured), which resembles more of a bread pudding than custard, but hot damn was it good! In conclusion, I would say this to anyone who has ever visited Bahn Thai: give it another chance. Now that it’s under new management that has taken the time and money to update the restaurant, it is a definite must-visit. It’s the best Thai food in town. No question.

Its under new management which actually means something this time. Its bright and crisp inside. The food is super fresh and tastes magnificent! I had the bahn thai noodles with fried tofu. Hot. It was joyous! They have a small consice menu and the portions were just right. We walked out feeling fed but not bloated and price was well under 10 dollars a person. They might be getting craft draft beer. I will never leave.

This is the best Thai food I have had in Tallahassee, but not the best Thai food I have ever had. Dined in and the waiter was really friendly and funny. The food was really good; I was so obsessed with my dish(the Drunken Noodles), that I ordered out the same dish three days later. The inside of the restaurant looks nice, and I understand they recently did a renovation. I will definitely be coming back and trying some new plates!

Bahn Thai is under new ownership. I won’t say that it’s better now, but it’s different and still very good. They’ve «Gordon-Ramsey-ed» the interior and the menu; give it a try.

Bahn Thai has been a family tradition growing up but I feel that it is important to note that the business recently changed hands during the latest renovation — the menu is completely different and although the food was decent it didn’t hold to the traditional Thai flavors and ingredients I expect from a family Thai restaurant. Give it a go but don’t expect it to be the same.
