Mr Honey-Do

If there where a zero star rating or negative stars, I would have chosen that over the one star he doesn’t deserve. I found him extremely unprofessional and rude. Don’t trust this company you will be dissapointed.

Ever since we moved from Truckee, we’ve been looking for a reliable handyman to address a variety of home maintenance needs we once mostly addressed ourselves. In September of 2014, I contacted Mr. Honey-​Do to help bolster the sagging front steps and loose railing leading to the front door. The work was excellent, and the final price came in at half the original quote. Very honorable.
So, it was a little disappointing when we turned again to Mr. Honey-​Do in 2015 to have our home stained, and had a somewhat different experience. Another painter in the Tahoe region kept dragging his feet throughout the summer until it was basically too late to have the house stained. We turned to Mr. Honey-​Do at the end of October, and indicated the paint job would likely need to wait until the spring of 2016 since cold and wet weather were approaching. By Friday, 10÷30÷15, Mr. Honey-​Do was at the house and indicating they could do the job before a significant storm that was approaching by Sunday, 11÷1÷15.
We green lighted the job with reservations. On Saturday as the storm’s arrival was now predicted to be earlier, my wife kept calling Mr. Honey-​Do to try and determine if the job should be postponed, but she could not get through to them.
Our tenants sent us photos when the job was finished by the end of Saturday, ¹⁰⁄₃₁. I noticed the front steps appeared to have not been painted. Afterwards, I asked Michael if he painted the stairs. He responded that he did not paint any flat, horizontal surfaces such as the front steps and the deck. I assumed that would be done, but unfortunately I did not get it in writing. Because the job had been done so quickly before the storm’s arrival, I asked if the old stain had been stripped. The response was «no» and «that would take a week.» The tenants indicated they did not think the siding was even washed or hosed off. I don’t know many painters that would recommend not properly prepping the surface, and I still don’t know what was done before the new stain was applied. What might save us is that this was a solid stain, so it should better mask the imperfections of the old stain or missing prep work. Again, I should have gotten any details regarding prep work, as well as the painting, in writing.
Afterwards, I asked Michael for an invoice to detail what was done with this job — something he had done with the previous stair work in 2014. He didn’t email me the invoice as he had done before. My wife drove the two hours to Truckee to meet with Michael personally, and he assured us he’d have the invoice for her upon payment. When she met him at the house, there still was no invoice. Upon paying Mr. Honey-​Do for the job in full that day, Michael told her the invoice would be sent that evening. It wasn’t. I texted, asking again for a copy. The response as late as 11÷5÷15 was «I’ll send it tonight.» It never arrived. I then sent a letter, with a SASE enclosed for easy return, asking for a copy of the invoice to Mr. Honey Do’s address. I received the invoice on 1÷13÷16.

Michael provided attentive, high quality, price worthy service doing renovation work on our Tahoe vacation home. His crew was competent, efficient and always friendly. He always returned calls and accommodated my special needs. I will definitely call on him again and would recommend him without reservation. Thanks Mike !

Mike has done everything for us from painting the entire first floor, installation of all new lighting and soundproof drapery. The drapes were extremely heavy and required many trips to the hardware store to get just the right brackets, because the ones we provided weren’t sufficient and didn’t work with our brick walls. He goes above and beyond to insure we’re pleased with the final result, is meticulous about each job, and has given us good advice regarding our projects. He comes with the highest of recommendations.

We hired Michael to do a major facelift on our house in Truckee. He did an excellent job, gave us advise when our ideas were off base and was very flexible when we had appliances delivered and could not be there in person. His prices were excellent and he did his work on time and budget.
There was nothing Michael did that was not high quality and we would hire him again in a heartbeat.

My experience with Mr. Honey-​Do was not so great. Generally poor quality work, little or no follow-​through, didn’t perform work he was instructed to do, lost my house keys, lost my lock box, etc. I was very surprised and disappointed.

Just wanted to put my two cents in about the quality and service of the Mr. Honey Do business. Mike Wilson and his crew have been stellar in their job performance for the tasks we have asked them to do. They always show up when they say they will and always stay until the job is finished. They are very trustworthy and very committed to customer satisfaction. We have used them for numerous tasks and will certainly continue to do so in the future…
