My fiancé and I are shopping around for a caterer for our November wedding. My employer recently used X Group Catering(Asado) for an event and although I wasn’t there I heard the food was great(except the sliders lol). I went online and emailed in asking how I could go about getting a proposal. After being impressed with Barbro’s responsiveness via e-mail we decided to schedule a tasting. The proposal was a little over our budget but, not far off. We were excited to try the selections that we had made. When we went to Asado for the tasting the restaurant was closed and we had a table set for two, it was nice and private. We sampled 3 – 4 appetizers, a salad, a chowder, two meats and two sides. We enjoyed the cherry balsamic short ribs. The other food was okay but, nothing that left you impressed. Even though some things were bland to us others may enjoy it so, we decided between the two of us that we would book them to cater our wedding. Once our plates were cleared we started to discuss things with Barbro. She complimented our venue selection, a old charming church just down the street, which we told her we were absolutely in love with. We told her the items that we liked and the ones we didn’t. They require a 50% deposit to book them and we had our checkbook on the table. We have been told by our wedding planner and various wedding vendors to ask if caterers are offering any discounts for booking on a Sunday, in November as that is «off season». We asked Barbro if they are offering any promotions like ad ons or discounts for booking with them. Her response was incredibly rude, she scowled at us and said ummm how much is your venue? We looked at eachother confused and responded with why? Her response was well did you ask them for a discount? Right away we were offended by this unprofessional response. I answered actually yes we received a discount for booking on a Sunday instead of a Saturday and for booking in the winter instead of the summer. She said I have never heard of anything like that nor have I ever been asked for a discount. She then went on to try and get us to have our reception at their new location Pine Room, that was opening up across the street in the old MASA nightclub. She already knew we loved our venue and have already paid and booked it. This showed us that she was willing to try and steal us away from our other vendors, which to us was unprofessional. We wrote VOID across our $ 3,000 check and softly put in back into my purse. We have never felt this type of treatment before. When we are about to pay you $ 6,000 to cater our wedding you should have the ability to be professional in all circumstances. We quickly saw an ugly side to her and couldn’t imagine doing business with X Group Catering. On our way out she shook my fiances hand and said«don’t be mad»… ugh who does that?!
