Corned beef hash is the best! Fresh food Self serve quick and easy. Everything that was ordered was great. Been there many times and will go back!

Shaka potatoes are to DIEFOR! Offers a delicious liquor menu alongside Mad Hatter teas and coffee. They raised their pricing and got rid of one of my favorites but they’re still cool with me. Promotes a safe space for their customers. The staff are loving life and willing to accommodate. Don’t come in on a Sunday and expect a fast seat. Just remember the room immediately infront of their door is self service(you order at register). Their pancakes are huge so if you have kids you can probably feed them all and not feel guilty! Their sandwiches are so delicious give it a try.

Finally had the chance to swing by for breakfast. I went with The Number Two(shaka potatoes, eggs, bacon, toast). My date had biscuits and sausage gravy. It was all wonderful. The potatoes are awesome. There’s a choice to make a meal of them and i may plan on that next time. The atmosphere is also great. Kinda kitschy. I could see just drinking coffee there and hanging out a bit. Highly recommended.

My pancake was so so good. The ambiance is typical of any good breakfast spot, busy with a little bit of a wait. Service was fine and overall a good experience. Would definitely go back. Many good things to choose from.

Just went there yesterday using an expired Groupon. I saw the reviews(and pictures) and didn’t care if I was only getting face value of what I paid for the Groupon. I’m glad I still used the Groupon as the breakfast sandwich and corned beef with potatoes, scrambled eggs, and the toast was amazing. Also, on the side, I ordered a single pancake with macadamia nuts.(I wasn’t confident in ordering just one pancake but… as you can see in the picture, it was worth it.) From how it was prepared(from scratch) to the taste, I highly recommend Shakabrah. They’ve got the whole diner thing perfected.

Love my breakfast sandwich the Tina with a side of their big pancake. The biscuits and gravy are homemade daily too. You have to come here. Yummy

Great great service… All over keeping the coffee to the top. Huge single pancake with perfect griddle taste. Homemade corned beef hash, & magic taters.

I went here knowing it wasn’t gonna be extra amazing and i wasn’t disappointed. The food was good and the service awkward but still polite. Don’t get the coffee, I’m not offended by diner coffee but you could tell that it was sitting there too long. The price was right down the middle. Overall a meh experience. I could tell that the staff works hard but maybe the food could use a little overhaul. And the place smelled like moldy cleaning supplies.

A simple basic breakfast joints with old mismatched chairs and tables and good food. There’s two service area — self serve and full service. My favorite at Shakabrah is corned beef hash, two eggs sun side and extra crispy potatoes. Good portion, I usually need a to go box. Service is slow, but worth the wait. The self-serve side of the restaurant has a long wall, floor to ceiling bookshelf. The wait staff said people just leave books there, please help myself to the books and take as many as I want. I love to read so I definitely took advantage of this offer.(Bonus)

The food was ok. The lady at the register was a complete bitch. Never seen someone so eager to take your money and kick out. It smelled delicious when we walked in, but the whole vibe of the crew just made me want to leave. There was one very nice lady with short blond hair and bangs, she was trying to make up for the rudeness of the other cashier with the red hair

Horrible food Biscuits and gravy looked like barf and tasted about the same. Wife’s scrambled eggs were runny. How hard is it to fix scrambled eggs. Service staff all tattooed up and pierced. Looked like they had just rolled out of a homeless shelter. Go down the street to the«old Milwaukee». You have to endure a wait but the food is fantastic.

There’s a soft spot in my heart for eclectic mom and pop breakfast joints — Shakabrah is one of those. Creaky floorboards, wobbly mismatched chairs, and even more wobbly tables — this place is the local diner where the locals go. There are two sections of the diner — one where you are seated by a host and one where you seat yourself. The latter requires you to order at the counter as well. There’s also a soft spot in my stomach for corned beef hash. Shakabrah does an excellent corned beef hash with two eggs over golden potatoes. It’s all extra greasy, just as god intended it should be. Portion size was perfect for what you pay. Coffee is self serve on the seat yourself side. Service was somewhat slow although when we arrived it was packed with a 30 minute wait on the full service side. We were fortunate enough to find an open table but it took a good 40 minutes for our plates on a table of 4 to be served. Overall, everything was quite delicious if not a bit slow. I would hesistate to come back.

Yummy fresh food! We loved the atmosphere of the place! We especially liked the self serve policy in one area of the place. Made it more down to earth and a homey feeling. Food was amazing and I can’t wait for us to come back! The pancake was amazing!

Shakabrah used to be great. They used to have the most awesome breakfasts in town. Today, however, was not great. First, the place was mostly empty(which I’ve never experienced before — the restaurant is usually pretty full on any given day). Second, the food was terrible and not as big as it used to be. We all had biscuits and gravy — the gravy was watery and oily and bland. The biscuits were not light and fluffy like they used to be, they still seemed homemade, but they were chewy. We were really surprised, because we’ve been going here for years(like at least 2x a year and we’ve lived nearby for 14 years). The service was ok. Be warned — you will not get a plate of food as shown in the photo!

If you drive too fast you could pass this place easily. I went here on a friends recommendation and I was so sorry I didn’t know about it sooner. When you walk in there is a self service area where you can by take out and a then a self seating area to the left. I grabbed a menu and Sat. I was greeted immediately after sitting and brought hot coffee. Then menu is extensive but I decided on the corn beef hash. My did was out so fast I barely had time to make a dent in the coffee. Let me tell you, I had the mother of corn beef hashes! Oh and the potatoes and second to none. The kind of taste like they are seasoned with Old Bay seasoning. I ate every bit and the portions are hearty. Don’t miss this place in Tacoma! You will be sorry! Oh and it’s right next to Legendary Doughnuts to make it better.

It was my first time here and let me say it as a very homey place. The staff are a busy bees but they’re all pretty friendly. The food portions are pretty large so share or be prepared for some left overs! I sat in the area where you just go up and order rather than having full on service, but it was nice regardless. I will eventually be back to try more.

Finally tried this Tacoma brunch staple! I’ve seen the mixed reviews this place gets on Unilocal, and must say I was impressed over all. It was an incredibly busy Saturday morning, and we were seated within 10 minutes of waiting. Things were a little slow, but the service ranged from good to great and the food was also good(not great). I got the pequena huevos rancheros, which comes with their signature potatoes. The huevos rancheros was good, but I wasn’t a fan of their potatoes. They had good flavor, but lacked texture. They needed some crispness or their skins or something. They were just meh for me. My fiancé’s Tina Sandwich looked good and he gobbled it up. He got it with a fried egg instead of scrambled. I think we’ll return for a solid breakfast in the future! I gave them 3 stars because I LIKED Shakabrah Java, but I didn’t REALLY like it. :/Ya.

When you walk in, there’s a sign that many people miss or don’t read. The food took forever. We were so hungry we had to order a side of toast. Guess we came during rush hour, but still!!! Otherwise the food was good, I couldn’t decide between pancakes or french toast. I got french toast with a side of biscuits and gravy. I couldn’t finish either of them but I enjoyed it.

Surprised to see so many lower star ratings, had a great experience at this place. Started off my adventure day with breakfast here! Ordered a veggie skillet with seasoned potatoes. YUM! Nice server and friendly staff!
