Unfortunately I have to lower my rating yet again. Why must you implement a 2 hour time limit for wifi? So uncool. So as long as I’m not being productive I can use your establishment for as long as I see fit, but if I want to get something done, I better wait until I finish my coffee to buy that bagel. Sounds like Bluebeard has it right. They welcome you with open wifi arms. Shame on you Metronome. ‘Wag of the finger’

I had the caramel latte w/coconut milk. Not sure if it’s cuz of the coconut milk or what but the latte had this weird taste to it. I didn’t like it at all and unfortunately had to throw it out. As for customer service, the girl had zero personality. No smile or thank you. Not sure if I’ll be coming back here.

I give it a 0 if I could. The coffee is good and unique but the customer service is a minus 0! Customer service to me is the most important thing. How can u a joy anything in a hostile environment. I never been to a place where kids were told to not laugh loud ? This place would have much more potential if it wasn’t for the nasty attitudes baristas that never smile and dogs licking everything including baristas than they touch food. I been avoiding thinking they changed and finally went today again; same old story. I’ll give my money to Valhalla which is half a mile from them I’ll stick to simple but tasty coffee and great customer service.

Well. I’ve come after hearing a lot about this place and so far… I’m mad it took me so long to do so! In the middle of 6th avenue you can find this gem. A well lit and spacious place with plenty of seating; both bar and table, a nice fireplace and lots of windows. A great place for wifi and to do some work on the laptop for a bit. I didn’t try any fresh baked goods but I certainly will next time. I got a Vanilla Rose Latte. Scrumptious!!! A bit high priced but for the flavor I think it’s worth it. Lots of other items on the menu besides coffee. Stop on in!

One of my favorite things to do is explore local coffee shops. When I’m in Tacoma, I try to get here for their creatively concocted lattes. Today I ordered the honey, carrot and thyme latte and the gluten free marion berry biscuit. The latte was like spring in a cup… interesting how the thyme balances the sweetness of the honey. The biscuit… errmerrghad it’s so good. It took me like 2 minutes to wolf down. The coffee shop itself had a cool industrial country chic vibe with cool Edison bulb lights, garage doors and school house lights. WiFi is free and plenty of tables to set up shop at. There’s also free parking off the street behind the building. Come here, you’ll love it :)

I love this place! It’s the only coffee shop that has unique lattes that are seasonal. Like, REALLY unique lattes. Plus, they’re not too«hipster», so you can stand being in there long enough to wait for your coffee. They’re also really friendly, I wish I could afford to get coffee there everyday!

The coffee was fine. No complaint in that regard. The service was a disgrace. It is generally my instinct that if you don’t like serving people, then avoid the service industry at all cost. The two hipsters behind the counter felt it was beneath them to smile, communicate, or behave graciously. More so than the flavor of their coffee, it is the bad taste of their behavior that stays with me, my wife and son, who were passing through Tacoma following a visit to the nearby UPS. Avoid at all cost. My experience was exactly the same as Dan Dan’s comments on his Google review. My advice: visit and patronize Bluebeard, just up the road. They love what they are doing and care about their customers.

MYALLTIMEFAVORITE coffee shop located on 6th ave. They never disappoint on the coffee and their seasonals are always ALWAYS worth trying, I went the other day and had their spring Rosemary Caramel Coffee and have since then been raving about it to all my friends. Not only do they have the best coffee in Tacoma, they also serve Mad House Tea and carry beer and wine as well. This is the perfect place for students, families, friends, and even first dates! I definitely would recommend!

There are a lot of places to get coffee in Tacoma so a place has to be pretty unique to catch my attention. Metronome crafts unique espresso drinks with a hipster flair that is both unassuming and creative. I ordered an Americano with an extra shot and the espresso was spectacular, bold and featuring a full bodied creamy texture that was everything that espresso is meant to be. Another advantage of Metronome is that they stay open late, offering a great location for an after dinner coffee date. Though I don’t think I will stray away from my tried and true Americano, the espresso menu is unique enough to inspire the most adventurous of coffee aficionados.

Best coffee shop I’ve been to in Tacoma. Not only is it very spacious if you need to bring a laptop and get any work done(with TONS of outlets), but they also have the most unique selection of lattes I’m come across so far. Since so many other Unilocalers recommended the Brown Butter latte I decided to try that, and WOW is that drink delicious. I was also hungry and was a little disappointed when all I saw in their pastry case was small muffins and croissants — but then girl behind the counter told me they also make breakfast sandwiches that aren’t on the menu! Score! I was seriously so starving. The breakfast sandwich was very good too — I got the sausage, egg, and I believe bacon sandwich. The Brown Butter latte was incredible, and honestly I want to continue to go back to try all their other specialty lattes — I wish I could remember their names because they all sounded incredible. Definitely check this place out, you won’t be disappointed!

I think of the coffee/tea places I’ve visited in Tacoma so far(Valhalla, Café Brosseau, Bluebeard, and Mat Hat,) I like Metronome the best. I was surprised that this place does not have a «hipster» vibe as I’ve seen with most of the other coffee/tea shops I’ve been to. Metronome has an urban and modern interior. They use their space exquisitely and I love the high ceilings. With a bunch of power outlets, broad tables, and wifi, this place is great for college students. There’s also a patio that’s perfect for summer. It’s not too bad in the winter as long as it’s sunny since there is a fireplace right next to it. The acoustics of this place is great. Because of the high ceilings, sound is absorbed so even when there were a lot of people I could not hear other people talking or even the muffling of sound. This place is perfect for focusing on a project or studying as the sounds here won’t be distracting. They have a huge selection of coffee, teas, and specialty lattes that rotate every season. The seasonal lattes are a great reason to keep coming back again! I got the Jack Frost Latte and my friend got the Brown Butter Latte. I loved mine! The concoction of the mint, cinnamon, and vanilla worked so well together and did not overpower one another. I liked that it was sweet, but not punch-you-in-the-face sweet like it is at Starbucks. I took a sip of my friend’s latte and it was so yummy! The servers were very helpful. I did not get any snobby vibe from any of them. They brought our coffee to our table. At one point I got hungry and was looking towards the counter from my table to see if there was a menu for food, and one of the staff noticed me and helped me out. I think the only con of this place is that they don’t have a great selection of food. I ordered a breakfast sandwich which they took from the refrigerator and heated up. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!

Waiting on my brothers surgery, I decided to find a coffee shop to hang out at. I initially came here due to the pancake pocket photos on Unilocal.Unfortunately, the pancake machine is broken. Not gonna lie. My heart and stomach cried a little. I was able to test our the brown butter latte and Greek yogurt w/granola & honey. $ 9.75 the yogurt was a good sized portion and the honey was sweet deliciousness. The brown butter latte was so velvety with just the right touch of sweetness and butteryness. It’s just as good here as Vivaces in Seattle. The coffee shop is large and tons of seating and bar stools. Lots of windows so you can stare off into passing cars. There is even a couch outside for the sunnier days.

I only came here once. My friend brought me here to study. We didn’t get much studying done, as usual haha, but I really enjoyed the coffee and atmosphere. It is a very cozy coffee shop in 6th ave, Tacoma. So there were a lot of other students there too. My friend and I sat by the window at this long table, and there were lots of outlets and space for us. We both ordered lattes and I have to say I was impressed with the coffee.

Coffee was above average, as it should be in the pacific northwest. The«flavored» lattees were subtle, instead of sugar-infused like the ones you get at Charbucks. Lots of concrete and stainless steel. Some elements of a coffee shop. It’s far from homey, but there’s still a bit of a slightly cozy appeal, albeit slightly manufactured. Wifi access is handed out in 1 hour increments on pieces of paper. I feel like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible receiving an assignment… only not. Glad I tried it, but I’d probably go down 6th to Valhalla 9 times out of 10 over Metronome.

As I opened the door to Metronome on the corner of 6th and Union, I smelled the rich earthiness of fresh brewed Victrola coffee. Much to my delight, Metronome’s menu contains an impressive array of unique specialty cups of coffee. I chose a sweeter brew for the start of my morning, a brown sugar pear latte. A small sized cup was a bit pricey at $ 4.25, but where else was I going to be able to try such a unique flavor? Plus, two hours of decently fast wifi is free(ask at the counter for the slip of paper with the password) and the tables were roomy enough that I could spread out to study. There is an extra large table in the back that I was lucky enough to snag a corner of =D. The latte itself was actually pretty good. Certainly not the best latte I’ve ever had, but unique, and that counts! I thought the pear flavor would be overpowering, but it was quite subtle and only served to accentuate the richness of the coffee. Metronome has excellent use of space. There is enough room between tables and ceilings are high enough that you never feel claustrophobic. Further adding to the ambiance are the large windows that enclose the space and give you a view out to the street and surrounding block. In the middle, there is a cozy faux lodge-style fireplace with couches and ottomans nearby. During the day, Metronome is a bustling coffee shop for casual conversation and café studying. By the time evening rolls around, Metronome ticks to the beat of live music and bubbly! I’ll have to stop by another time to experience Metronome’s alternate identity. Five stars for the ambiance and overall study experience. Coffee itself was unique, but only worthy of four stars. Overall, 4.5.

Ah, the PACNW… how I love your coffee… is it because of the weather that you’ve perfected the art of the roast? Can’t go outside, so let’s figure out how to make a sick cup of coffee! I’m not a big fan of Tacoma… at least not yet. I only had a few hours there and only saw a kind of seedy side of the city. We did get to stop in at Metronome on the way to visit University of Puget Sound and I was glad we found it. Cool space inside… choice of tables or a spot at the coffee bar. I ordered up my regular Soy Latte and a massive chocolate chip, orange spiced muffin(not my regular breakfast fare, but what the hell… I’m on vacay). The coffee was smooth and strong, made with love. The muffin was moist and difficult not to finish… even though three people could have shared it. The barrista was a friendly guy who focused on keeping the place pristine in between making excellent cups of coffee. They also have a great little patio with a fire place…

Two words: pancake pockets. The first time I had one, it was filled with Nutella, bananas, happiness, and probably some other addictive hormones. I’m kind of sad that the pancake machine is so expensive, otherwise I would have gotten one a long time ago(and trust me, I’ve tried in vain to recreate this pancake pocket.) The specialty coffee is just as delicious. Even though their lattes range from flowery to fruity to chocolaty, you never lose the taste of coffee inside the drink. I haven’t been able to try to the alcoholic lattes yet, though, but I appreciate the fact that Metronome switches its drinks menus each season. My personal favorite? The spicy mocha, hands down. As for ambiance, Metronome can double as a quick hangout to catch up with your friends(if it’s not rainy, make use of the plush sofa on the outside!) It’s a little difficult to do your work at the tables indoors, but sit at the high-tops and you’ll be able get some productivity squeezed in. Come for the live music, too, even though there isn’t too much room in the back to perform. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: come here for the pancake pockets, but stay for everything else.

Went in to try a pancake pocket and coffee and the pancake machine was broken. I had already ordered it to stay, but while I was waiting I realized I didn’t really like the setting. It felt like a bar. It was a bar. And it was a little dirty and I just don’t want to drink my coffee in a dirty bar. So I changed my order to to-go, but a few seconds later it came out in a porcelain cup. They were very kind though and actually made me a new one in a to go cup instead of just pouring it into the cup. So extra points. I get to my next location and I finally have a sip and it was REALLY good. Just a really smooth cup of coffee. The service was friendly and with a smile. I’m not into the coffee shop/bar vibe, but it’s a great concept and expands the demographic and I would come back here again to get a to-go coffee for sure.

Do not come here if you are in a hurry. Do not come in here if you are looking for Starbucks style coffee, frappiccinos, or burnt coffee. DO come here if you are okay with waiting a bit for your drink of choice to me well made(quality over quantity people). DO come here if you want to have one of the staff nerd out over the single origin, Victrola supplied coffees they serve. DO order one of their custom house drinks– my last one was a pistachio/rose concoction that was frikkin delicious. Enough flavor to let you know its there, but not sickenly sweet you cant drink it. Street parking off of 6th is available, there is also a lot under the building in case the retail lot attached is full.

I love metronome coffee! It’s really hard to find good coffee shops in the south area, and Metronome is one of the spots in Tacoma that just does it all! Good place to study, big space, lots of outlets and so many options of caffeine goodness to choose from. They offer multiple brewing options, hand pours as well as season’s specialty lattes and more. Really friendly people as well. I will be back.
