The green curry they USED to make here is the stuff that dreams are made of. Their formula was my Favorite Food for years. I have no idea what brand curry paste they used(or if they made it in house) but it was divine. I always ordered the green curry and one new dish, and they are all good enough. But always back to the Green for me Then they changed the recipe and it became Everyone Else’s Green Curry. They started using Mae Ploy brand curry paste(I’m a supertaster… there was only one ingredient in their recipe besides the original curry paste that I couldn’t pin down), which is good enough I guess but not fabulous like their previous recipe. Certainly not worth gas for a 40 minute drive and a bridge toll, plus tip. Pretty expensive. I miss the restaurant, but without my fave curry it wouldn’t have made much sense to keep going anyway.

First the service here is absolutely horrible. It obvious the waiters and waitresses have no experience or training. No sense of customer service and sometimes they just forget that you are there. You will not get menus, silverware, water or your order taken as soon as you should, but they recognize they suck and will apologize. However, the old school folks in the kitchen save the review, for me. I love the Thai Angel and often wonder what I will do when I move from this city. I will not try anything else, don’t want to ruin a good thing. Thai Angel try it you will not be disappointed. If you find a dish like this anywhere else let me know or if you got a recipe.

Coconut Thai closed and the phone number is disconnected! We order lunches to go from here and just discovered this today! I drove by and saw that there is a new Thai restaurant in this location. It is called Nana Thai.(253) 267‑0779
Next time we will try this place for our to go order.

1star because the service sucked really bad. My first time eating there was today and after we ordered and got our food there was a group of people that got seated behind us. The waitress talked to them the whole time and offered them free desert because it was easter. Me and my friend was like um ok, did u forget bout us. And we both ran out of water and rice and it took them atleast twenty minutes later to notice that we needed service. I literally had to place my empty glass on the edge of the table really loud to get the waiter’s attention. Honestly I dont think i will ever return here. The food was alright.

We were not impressed with anything at all here. Service was the worst, this lady spent most her time chitchatting away on the phone. Took for ever to get some water, I almost walked out at one point, wished I had now. The food matched the service, pad Thai tasted like it come out a squirt bottle, sugary ketchup yuk. Green bean chicken matched the pad Thai with nasty gross green beans, I could not believe it. We are truly spoiled with our Seattle restaurants.

The food was the only thing good about this place, but it was good enough for 2 stars. I wouldn’t recommend this place for in-restaurant dining and I’m even skeptical about recommending this place for take out. Placed a lunch order for Pad Thai for take out at 11:30am. The gal on the phone said that it would be ready in 10 mins. There isn’t much parking at the restaurant so I had to park at the Outback Steakhouse nearby. When I arrived inside the restaurant about 20 mins from placing my order on the phone, the gal at the counter said that my order was not yet ready. While waiting near the fish tank in the entrance, I encountered another customer who had called in her order 30 mins earlier and still hadn’t received it. This worried me. I also witnessed multiple tables with seats empty and uncleared tables. There were also many customers that looked annoyed waiting for their checks or meals or maybe even just to put in their orders. The gal at the counter was constantly being pestered by someone who was either her husband, restaurant owner or manager. They were consistency bittering about the speed of handling orders, processing checks, clearing tables, etc. While watching my watch, I just kept wondering to myself if these two knuckleheads were the only ones working the dining area and apparently, that was the case. After waiting 20 mins inside the restaurant(40 mins from originally placing my order) and starving, I finally received my Pad Thai. Still not sure if I was just super hungry and my taste buds didn’t care, but it was surprisingly good. For anyone thinking about dining here, make sure you have an abundance of time — even for take out.

This place loses a star for service not being consistent. Not the best, but the food makes up for it. The first time I was here was a few years back. I had to order the Papaya Salad since my friends were raving about how they use the stinky stuff. YUM! I said as I pictured of how it would look. It was a sunny afternoon, so my friends and I decided to stop by this place after school. We placed an order of Papaya Salad, Red Chicken Curry and Larb Gai. When the food came, I could not stop looking at the Papaya Salad. It was dark with the sauce and looked really spicy. Just the way I liked it. The first bite of it hit the right spot. Now I have been to plenty of other restaurants and had their Papaya Salad, but it did not compare to this one here. Each bite taken reminded me of my mother’s and sister’s homemade Papaya Salad, Heaven on Earth! and of course water to go down with it since it was so spicy! ;) The next dish that I tried was the Red Chicken Curry. Not a disappointment at all! It was so GOOD! The curry was made to perfection! Lastly was the Larb Gai! This dish was also good! After years of coming here to dine, service has been so-so. But the food stayed amazing! Just the other day I had ordered the Shrimp Tom Yum. To die for! And as my friends have said, «It has the GOOD mushrooms!» LOL I have not yet been disappointed and will continue to come here. This place is Authentic as it can be. The prices for the food are a bit pricey. The food portions seem to have gotten a little smaller from back when but it is still good since the food is good. I will definitely be back here for more!

Food is great! Portions are size-able! I sometimes have to take leftovers home. My favorite is panang curry, and I’ve tried panang at other Thai restaurants, but nothing tastes as authentic or as good as Coconut Thai’s panang curry. Customer service is what you can expect from a lower end restaurant. It’s not a 5-star, but the place is clean and the atmosphere is pleasant.

I’ve only been in for take-out but the service was great and the food was good too. It was the usual thai cuisine and I thought the prices were pretty reasonable for the portion sizes(most entrees are $ 10)

This is sort of a silly review, as it pertains only to the bar, which by the way, is a seperate and fully-functioning entity. Well, fully-functioning is a stretch, since the young lady who«played» bartender had to ask us how to make the drinks we asked for, which may bother some, but ended up working out to our advantage. My Meyer’s rum and coke ended up having almost 3.5 shots in it, and my friend’s white russian could have stripped the paint off of a car, but couple that with our assurance that the drinks should cost 4 bucks each, and you have yourself a pretty fantastic one drink stop. Plus, it’s two doors down from a very awesome auto-repair shop, and a tattoo parlor, so it’s a nice little strip mall waiting to be utilized.

Bottom line: If you’re in Tacoma and need a Thai flavor fix, Coconut is OK. There are better Thai joints here and — important to note — they are much cheaper. My family has eaten here several times, and it’s always mediocre. Our last visit, this week, may be our LAST visit. We spent $ 100 on a casual dinner for 6 people and half our party was under the age of 12! Please note: I am fine with spending $$$ on dinner sometimes, but not in a poorly appointed dining room with food that looks best suited to a styro box. Prices: entrees run $ 10 average for a dish with chicken. If you want any other protein, it costs $ 2 – 3 more. So-so Pad Thai for $ 10+? hmmmm. Fresh rolls and fried egg rolls are $ 7 for a plate of 4 — again, very average. On the plus side, service is decent. But I would avoid unless you’re nearby and must have a Thai fix.

Not the best Thai food I’ve tried so far. I barely even remember what I ordered! But here’s what I got: Starter soup – vegetable soup – nothing special, easy to make. Pad Thai– totally different taste from other places I’ve tried. WAYYYY too sweet. Won’t order it again. Green curry– great! Very yummy. I think I ordered two other things but I can’t remember what they were. But if you go, definitely try their curry dishes. I waited pretty long for all dishes to come out. They’re a little pricey for the portion they give. However, service is good and the place is clean & comfortable.

Um… Sweetened, Thai Tweaked, Barbeque sauce… That’s what it tasted like they used for their sauce in the«Pud Thai». When I saw the word«Pud» instead of «Pad” – I should have known better. I don’t care what you say it’s PAD. Pud… sounds toxic, green and slimey. Every authentic Thai restaurant I’ve been to has the best Drunken Fried Rice(don’t carry), the most delectable Curry Noodle(which they never heard of when I asked — and yes… I almost fainted) — –spells their Pad Thai… P-A-D T-H-A-I. The dish was very, red or orange looking which is another hint that they use some sort of sauce that isn’t or doesn’t taste like Thai ingredients. I recently moved from Detroit where some of the best Thai Restaurants are and I was very disappointed that I’ll have to continue my search for similiar if not better. Because if you can’t get tha basics in your own cuisine specialty… such as PADTHAI…(not PUD). Then you lost me. (Deep breath sigh) Sadly, my search continues. Nice fish tank though!

Let’s see. The pad thai tasted like they dumped a cup of sugar on it when they cooked it — way too sweet. The waitress didn’t ask how spicy we wanted anything(and I didn’t tell her) so the panang curry came too mild. So, anyone who likes their thai food spicy, definitely ask for it. The chicken satay had a kind of burnt crust on it — as if the coconut curry sauce that it had been marinating in was burned on to the chicken when they grilled it. Not that big a deal, I suppose, but it didn’t really add anything to the end product. Overall, I would say this is American thai food for American tastes. Sweet and mild. Don’t get me wrong, if a friend of mind called and said they would treat me to thai food at this place I wouldn’t hesitate to go– I might suggest a different place though. That said, the service was good.

Yum Yum Yum food. A friend took me here and it was great. Although there was a bit of a language barrier, the waitress seemed to know quite understand all we ordered. Food was pretty darn good and had tons of left overs. Next time we are going out for thai, we will go here. Two thumbs up.

Decent Thai food in Tacoma. I do not know what’s up with Thai restaurants serving bowls of vegetable soup with fish sauce in it as a starter. That is just weird to me and totally rubs me the wrong way. However, the entrees at Coconut Thai are authentic enough and they do give you free dessert. Coconut Ice Cream is the bomb! The owners are Thai, as far as I know, and there is even a really cool wall of fame highlighting employees as you walk in. Insider tip: If you get a punch card you can earn a free entrée after like 9 meals.
