This place has the best fried fish sandwich in all of Syracuse and in fact, in anywhere that I have ever been. I live in Los Angeles and come here everytime I am in town. They serve lightly battered haddock and it’s amazing. The same staff has worked there for probably over 15 years. I have never been unhappy with the service or food!

Neat old place. C.J.‘s is open one day a week(Friday) and seems to be staffed exclusively by people at both extremes of the workforce spectrum: high school kids and silver-haired ladies. The fish is fresh and well-cooked. Scallops are better than they should be, considering Lyncourt is hundreds of miles from the ocean. The prices are dirt-cheap($ 4 for a haddock sandwich). It’s a great old-timey dive of a place. No plastic. Go early — good stuff sells out before closing time.

Every Friday, I drive past this place on my way home from work. It is always packed. There isn’t much of a lot so Teall Ave becomes one lane in the northbound direction because cars are usually blocking part of the street. I always wanted to stop in and see what the fuss is about and, more importantly, figure out exactly what they were selling in there. It only took me three years, but I finally made it in. I can now report that it is fish fry that they are selling. They also have other seafood dinners. Scallops seemed to be popular with those in front of me. I opted for the regular fish dinner, which comes with fries and a «salad.» I put that in quotes because it’s not a green salad like I thought. You get to choose between macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw, and cabbage salad. They were out of a few things so I opted for the cabbage salad, which is just cabbage and some other vegetables mixed together with mayo. The fish itself is haddock, which is the fish of choice in this part of the world for fish fries. Decent. Could have used some lemon, but I didn’t have any in the house. Surprised they don’t give you a slice with the meal. You might be able to request it, but I did not and don’t know for sure. You get two big pieces of fish so you won’t be hungry afterwards. The fries were of the frozen variety. Easy to pick that up when eating them. The cabbage salad is what you think it is. Fortunately, there isn’t a lot of mayo mixed in, but I prefer a vinegar mix. I think they do offer that but I heard someone say they were out of it. Go early if you want all the options(before 6:30, which is when I went). Not a bad dinner for under $ 10.
