I just registered with Unilocal simply to refute the two utterly ridiculous poor reviews of this excellent business posted by Dani B and Mark M. Here is where they are correct… Buda’s is not Wegman’s… It is not a pristine supermarket. What it is is an excellent family run market with extremely low prices and decent selection. Oh, in response to Mark B, the beef, and pork, and cheese, etc, are in the walk in cooler. Yes, there is past date food… If that worries you, don’t buy it. They’ve added gluten free section. Great place.

Wow, I can’t believe these people writing reviews on this place even though they clearly don’t understand the point of the store. The stuff is usually near expiration because, guess what? It sells for cheaper! And you know what else? NOTEVERYTHINGISNEAREXPIRATION. In fact, they sell things that don’t really have an expiration date, like hot sauce, spices, etc. I’ve bought some normally expensive«superfruit» juice, Starburst, protein bars, and much more there. It was all fine. Buda’s has its on and off days. But it’s a great deal and worth a shot. My friend who also shops there has gotten amazing deals there herself. Like crazy deals. 5 lbs of dates, 8 lbs of bananas, things like that… for $ 5. What did she do with most of it? Freeze it. She made a TON of vegan ice cream with the bananas. I’m not entirely sure what she did with the dates. But she finds amazing deals here. She nor I have bought or even looked at means there(especially since she’s vegan) so I can’t comment on that. But I mean, don’t be so surprised to find that kind of meat there. You knew what kind of store you were entering. And if you didn’t, then you shouldn’t be writing a review. If you don’t like it then get out. But only make a review when you know what you’re talking about.

Please stop the insults. In particular, don’t target the«foreigners». Don’t worry, most of them know exactly what they are buying and they are aware of the near expiration labels. I shop my groceries from a variety of stores. Like anyone else, I look for the best bang for the buck. I also love to hunt for the best and most diverse food without having to pay through my nose. One of our favorite places to shop for food is the Syracuse farmer’s market. Buda’s just happens to be in the middle of it. Buda’s is a no frill local grocer. Nothing more and it never claimed to be anything otherwise. The biggest difference is that it’s not located in a metro neighborhood or community. Nor, is it a part of a bargain food store chain(such as the former Dollar Foods). Have you ever been to any of the grocery stores or a thrift grocer in a major city? Better yet, have you ever been to a farmer’s market(and I’m not talking about an upscaled one that is found in a more progressive area). Please compare then post again. Enough said. As for food bargains, if you think there is such a thing as a one stop shopping, you can’t be more wrong. One just has to be smart. That’s all. I don’t always end up buying things at Buda’s, especially with their meats and frozen food because stock varies so much. But, for produce in variety, in quantity and in quality, Buda’s often beats any big-box chain, hands down.

Look, I like bargains. I just don’t like nasty. This place is downright nasty. The store is filthy, the carts are crusty, and they have produce but, get this, NOPRODUCEBAGS. They want you to take your bunch of scallions or your bunch of asparagus and put it directly onto your nasty cart surface. Much of the stock in the store is expired or soon to be expired, and, let’s be clear on this, there is NOFRESHMEAT. ALL the meat is frozen, and most of it is processed mystery meats in generic plastic bagging. Horrifying and disgusting are the best words to describe the«meats» at «Buda’s Meats & Produce.» And, seriously, before someone gets all look-how-cool-I-am-with-my-ability-to-kick-it-with-the-poor on me, and throws out the classic, «Sorry you’re too good for a cheap place like Buda’s» let me just say that I AM too good for Buda’s, because I am a human being who is not impervious to disease. EVERYONE is too good for Buda’s. There is no higher insult to the poor than to tell them that they deserve only dirty, expired food.

Where’s the beef? There is no meat at Budas even though their signs says so! This place is the king of expired food expiration dates, and they still are not giving it away – but I guess the foreigners who buy the stuff don’t know how to read so it’s all good. God get me out of this place!
