We ordered steak here a year ago. Everyone got sick and refused to go back. I got the fish. It was delicious and didn’t get sick.

Food was very good. Nice ambiance. Highly priced. Seafood was very fresh and the lobster was one of the tastiest I have ever had.

I attended a recent reception for Flagler College admitted students. Very impressive. Beautiful setting, professional staff, great presentation of well-selected sushi, hors d’oeuvres, wines, and desserts. Busy place and I can see why. Looking forward to a return visit.

Great restaurant. Big fan of steakhouses. This one has delicious food and choices. Great staff and waiter. The bar was a nice place to sit by, while waiting for a table. We didn’t get a reservation and was waiting for a table or cancellation. They accommodated us and I had a great time and meal. The dessert to try is the mocha kiss. Out of this world.

Don’t expect the Matre’ D for any help, in this pricey restaurant, dishes were sent back and ruined our evening. Some one was a little over zealous with seasoning to the point that we had return 3 out of 4 dishes back. Don’t get me wrong, I like a little salt but this was some ones big mistake before it left the kitchen. So we had to wait and wait and wait. Finally our dishes return, and this time no seasoning at all, A joke I’m thinking. Decided to call it a night, ask to have my Chop bagged to go, got home and opened it and somehow my veal chop became a fish dish. NEVERAGAIN!

Some of my colleagues and I came to Rare650 for an educational dinner. I’ve been to a few steakhouses now and Rare650 kind of fits the same mold: modernish design, dark color scheme throughout the dining room with splashes of light, and an overall upscale atmosphere. We were seated in a private room upstairs which had a huge glass wall with numerous wine bottles behind it — very dramatic. Overall I was a fan of the décor. If I had to make a guess right off the bat, this restaurant is a hot spot for the locals to cut loose; music was blasting from the bar area and there were a lot of people dressed like they were going clubbing. If Bravo ever made a Real Housewives of Long Island, they needn’t look further than Rare650 on a Thursday night. Onto the food; I started with the tuna roll — it was good but nothing to write home about. Caesar salad was next which was good but basic. For my main I had the filet mignon which came with a side of mashed potatoes. The meat was pretty good — not the most flavorful steak I’ve had but it wasn’t bad either. The mashed potatoes were just that — and additionally they gave us a huge side of creamed spinach to share. For dessert I had chocolate mousse cake — the cake was kind of dry but the mousse portion was tasty. Service was good, one of the waiters especially was very charismatic and engaging with us — kudos to him! Overall, if I was dining here for a regular meal my experience would definitely be a 2(especially at this price point). However, I was here for an educational dinner, so I need to give them the benefit of the doubt. I don’t see myself coming back here — there are other steakhouses closer to home — but it seems to be popular with locals so it’s a place to consider for a special occasion if you’re in the area.

We came here for a buisness dinner and it was worth it. The wait staff was excellent and we had a specialty roll for the day and it was ok. It was not rolled well making dipping the rolls in soy difficult as they fell apart. because of this it is hard to say what it should have tasted like. One of the others had a lobster roll and it seemed to taste good. I had the crab salad for my dinner and is was good. I was told by others that have been there before that they were not on their A game last night. The reason I had to bring this up to a 3 star from a 2 is because of the great ambiance and cocktail whine menu. Many delicious drinks to be had very well prepared and delivered. Bottom line for the price I expect better food but I think I caught them on a off day. I may try again 9n my next trip to make a final decision.

Just had to rave about this restaurant again. And to give special thanks to our two servers, Kyle and Kristen, who made the evening even more memorable. From the wine to the kale salad and lobster salad to the sushi and filet mignon, everything as always was delicious, hot and tasty. I could eat the crispy brussel sprouts with panetta every day! It’s nice to dine where people dress up on Saturday night and not just dress in jeans and flip flops. This is a gorgeous restaurant and not to be missed. I think it’s the best one in the Syosset/Woodbury/Plainview area.

Very disappointed. Service was not as attentive as the other restaurants especially when we were the only party in the dinning room last night. Had to send the steak back due to being overlooked. Just a totally poor experience overall.

Ah the North Shore… valeting my lowly Wrangler in the Rare650 lot reminded me of that song in the Little Mermaid when she wants to be part of the world. «You want Bentleys? I’ve got 20!» We decided to come to Rare to celebrate my new job. As a frequent visitor of Blackstone and Insignia, I had to check out this other Anthony Scotto restaurant. We asked to sit in the conservatory upon making the reservation, but they led us past the main room and seated us in a smaller portion with about 4 tables. The restaurant itself is beautiful, but that’s part of the draw. Quick notes: Menu is very similar to that of Insignia’s. Bacon/mozzarella/arugula app special was great. Skirt steak at $ 44 was huge, but it was a really disappointing cut of meat. No wonder it was so «cheap». Scallops with truffle risotto cost just as much, and came with 4 scallops and bland risotto. Black truffle mac is a must try, but you can’t go wrong with this type of dish. Night in Paris drink I would skip. tasted too much like medicine. Raul and Keith provided excellent service. I would request to be seated in their section again. Overall, Rare is beautiful, but I live so close to Blackstone so there isn’t really much of a draw here. They do, however, offer some sort of club night on Thursdays so if you’re trying meet a cougar or find someone to fund your next yacht trip, I guess it’s worth the trek?

A popular spot, that now seems to be playing more to its nightlife scene rather than its food. It is in the bracket of all the high end steak houses on the island(Prime, Rothmans, Blackstone…)(Note: For steak, Lugers stands alone). Beautiful interior, very nice space with a glass enclosed outside room. However, Rare has become more inconsistent with regard to «what is on the plate». Steaks are not at the level of the price being offered. Sides are average in both size and quality. Their sushi is good, but again it is exceedingly expensive for what it is. Understand that I am ok with spending $ 70+ on a steak, $ 10+ per side and $ 15 for a glass of wine — that’s what top tier steak houses are charging — but I feel I should be getting value that matches the price — this where Rare falls short. Also, Unless you are a divorced single I would stay clear of Rare on Thursday night — huge singles scene that takes the place over. In short, for food, there are much better options in this category. Ironically, Blackstone in Melville, it’s sister restaurant with the same ownership, does a far better job.

Went multiple times and was never impressed with the steaks and side dishes. Place could use a renovation inside not just another coat of white paint on the ceiling. They do have outside seating as well.

This is probably my 2nd time at rare 650 it’s a cool upscale restaurant, came here on a Friday night and it was very packed, I had reservations and sat at the bar for about 20 minutes before being seated. Service was really attentive and the food was excellent. I enjoy the outdoor seating in the summertime and the cool lounge area inside and of course valet always helps.

I gave this place 3 stars for ambiance and quality of product. However it is nothing more than an expensive place for desperate, lonely, over made-up over 50 people. These poor women are dressed like 20 year olds with all their wrinkles and fake tans and short skirts trying to land a rich guy. And the older male clientele are looking for nothing more than a good time with an easy mark. It’s not a place I would ever go to again! And I am over 50. I also went with my husband. I get the feeling that it’s not a couples place, but a pick up place.

The place is pretty cool. They have a nice bar, and décor looks great. The one thing I didn’t like is the fact that the service was quite slow. Not sure if it’s a Long Island thing. Our server knew the menu inside out, and knew what she was doing. But, the service was way too slow. Food was great. No complaints there.

Went to a surprise birthday bash for my best friend — 60 people in attendance in upstairs room. Pre-set menu with about 3 – 5 choices for app, salad, dinner — cake and fresh fruit for dessert. Service was excellent. Everyone loved the food. Whether seafood, steak, chicken, sushi — no choice was the wrong choice.

I had such a terrific experience dining here last night. We pulled in and valet quickly took our car while the six of us walked through the corridor past lounge couches and palm trees toward the main entrance. Trendy atmosphere but quiet enough and appropriate for all ages. We were greeted and brought to a spacious booth where the six of us sat quite comfortably. We arrived at 6:30 so the place was practically empty but it really picked up by the time we left around 8:30. The service remained equally as good throughout our entire time there. Brian & Manny served us and they were a great team as well as professional but personable. We enjoyed talking to them and they were quick to refill our drinks and get us anything we needed. Brian was TERRIFIC at describing the meals and making recommendations. He probably could have sold us a plate of dirt and made it sound gourmet. I had the short ribs special, recommended by Brian, which was faaaaabulous. Came on the bone atop loaded mashed potatoes and green beans placed on top. I was able to bring home about half of it for leftovers. For dessert I had the berry marquee(also recommend by Brian) and couldn’t stop commenting on how wonderful it tasted. We had such a wonderful time and appreciated the service we received. Prices were totally worth it! I can’t wait to return for another great meal.

Arrived early for a nice dinner in a picturesque setting on their enclosed varanda. Started with a smooth chianti and a perfect pear cocktail. Then wedge chopped with dressing on side, a #9 which was perfect temp and served on a beautiful plate. Then local fish witb lobster cream, delightfully crisp steamed broccoli and a cowboy cut nightly special. To end hagen daaz. Vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Good service Raul and the other gentleman.

Wow this restaurant was awesome. You pull up and hand off your car(to the very nice) valet driver. And find your way inside the restaurant. Headed over to the bar and was greeted promptly by a bartender. I may have just ordered a Guinness but it was very good here. You have to pour it a certain way to get the right«head» on the beer. Moved our way into the conservatory to start our meal. It’s really beautiful and they have plants surrounding inside and outside. And it wasn’t cold even though it was winter.(See photo of conservatory I posted) Starters: started with triple spicy roll which had lobster and other goodies. It was VERY good. The tuna sashimi on the side was so tender. Beef short rib was good but not my favorite, shrimp on the side was tough. Duck empanadas were excellent crispy and not oily. If you like pulled pork I would get those. Homemade potato chips were large, thin, salty, crunchy and addicting. Main: we ordered sides for the table and our entrees. Sides were: fries, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and corn. Spinach was some of the best I’ve had. Corn was sweet. Mashed potatoes creamy and delish. Fries were good and served in a cute mini fryer basket, but nothing to rave about. I ordered the special bone in filet mignon medium rare. Size wise it was in between the petite and regular filet on the menu. My filet was overcooked BUT had great flavor. I tried the bone in ribeye(which was cooked to medium rare) and mine actually tasted more beefy. I’m not one to send things back unless it’s inedible. So I just ate it, still a good filet. Dessert: I’m not going to go into too much detail. We got a plate to sample about 6 desserts. They were all good. You can’t go wrong with any of them so get what your in the mood for! Chocolate wow is a definite WOW. And donuts were still hot. Overall/service: the restaurant is gorgeous. With different seating areas and atmospheres. Our waitress was great and so friendly. When you leave and come back to the table they refold your napkin and I even got my chair pushed in as I was sitting down. The waitstaff was awesome. Water glasses and wine glasses were constantly being filled.
