Loved this little brewery! Bought us a growler to take home and enjoy. The only thing that would make this place better is food. :-)

Friendly owner, great beer including creative and tasty seasonal brews make this a staple stop on our annual trip to the smokies. If you are in the area, check it out… It’s definitely worth your while!

Dieter and Cheryl(I hope I have their names right) have always been very professional and courteous which is a big plus for us… and their Orange Blossom IPA and Birch Beer is fantastic! Great little place!

My boyfriend and I were visiting his family in North Carolina this past Christmas, and after all of the festivities we needed a little break. Luckily Unilocal came to the rescue with two nearby breweries within walking distance of each other! From the second we walked up to the adorable brick building, I knew this was the place for us. There is a large mural of gnomes(a store mascot of sorts) with little twinkle lights that is just perfect for a photo stop! Dieter Kuhn was such a gracious host. He immediately greeted us with a smile upon entering and spoke with us a little about the town and his brewery. We were the first customers of the day since it was fairly early and the day after Christmas. We sat at one of the tables in the center of the restaurant and began chatting as a couple customers trickled in. Dieter then brought over a large bowl filled with brownies he had made from his Black Forest Stout. Holy cow! These were literally some of the best brownies I had ever tried! We ate more than our fair share before forcing him to take it away. we might have consumed the entire bowl if it sat there any longer! I just wish we had gotten the recipe! I have yet to find a real taste for craft beers, but I always love to try new ones out just in case! We sampled a few choices before my boyfriend decided on the Middleworld Brown Ale and I chose the Ancient Days Honey Blonde Ale. We both enjoyed them and had a second pint. I had also tried the Weise Gnome Hefeweisen, which was pretty good. My one regret is not buying a growler and taking some home with us! If you’re ever in the Sylva, NC area, you must visit Heinzelmannchen Brewery. The customer service is unbeatable with the beers to match!

Totally different from what I expected, but in a good way. Mid block on a side street in Sylva lurks the Gnome! When I first entered, you could tell they were actively brewing — the smell of hops permeated the air! This is down and dirty nano brewing in my book. There were 6 beers on tap and not quite what I expected. I was thinking along the lines of more traditional German type beers like Altbier, Berliner Weisse, Bockbier and Eisbier. Over the years, they have morphed into a combination of catering to the modern craft beer drinker mixed with some of the traditional. My flight was around $ 10 for five, but they were really proud of the last beer, so they gave me a sample anyway. The husband and wife team of Sheryl and Dieter are great hosts. Really enjoyed talking with them while sampling their beer. The beer: Really liked the Black Forest Stout — smoky and smooth. Honorable mentions go to the Middleworld Brown Ale and Ancient Days Honey Blonde. What really surprised me was their Orange Blossom Imperial Pale Ale(9%) — I do not care for honey or high gravity imperials — but this one was complex and delicious = so drinkable. Like beer and dessert in a glass. Well done!

This is a small German-style brewery in downtown Sylva. The space is mostly brewing equipment and there is not a real tasting room and because of that they are only open for customers when they are brewing beer. Actually another Unilocaler had forwarded me a link to this site because they make their own sodas here too… root beer and birch beer. I haven’t had Birch beer since I lived up north so I was really looking forward to trying this. But when I arrived, they were out. Dang. So I sampled the regular beers. If you like German style beers, this is probably a good place since the owner is German-born. But I like hoppy beers and I didn’t particularly enjoy any of them. Still, I give them credit for serving me my flight and I love the gnome theme here. They did mention that they are moving the brewery soon and will have a real tasting room at the new location. I hope they have birch beer as well.
