This place is the bomb!!! Never a bad meal. The people there are very helpful to tell you about each meal if you are unfamiliar with ethnic food. Turned my family and a few friends into them. Fresh food everyday. Doesn’t look like much outside but totally worth the stop. Any resort folks in need of some good food it’s a great place.

LOCATION? LOCATION? LOCATION? So after reading not so great reviews from local eateries while staying in Mount Airy Casino, we decided to order in and give 809 takeout a shot. Excited at the fact that website says they deliver, we called to place an order. It was a Saturday night approximately 7pm, my husband called and a spanish speaking gentleman answered. My husband began speaking English and gentleman states I don’t speak English. No problem I speak Spanish fluently so I took the phone and inquired about one of the combos I saw on the menu posted on Unilocal. The guy says oh you are looking at the menu for 809 takeout right? I said yes isn’t this 809 takeout? He then explains that he recently purchased the store and it is no longer 809 takeout it is now La Parrada Latina. He says he used to be the cook for 809 takeout and assured me the food was same great quality I had read about. We were starving at this point so decided to go ahead and give it a shot. I ordered the pork chop combo and 1 stuffed potato appetizer. I proceeded to tell him where we would need the food delivered to, he paused for a moment and said sorry no delivery tonight. I said but the site says you deliver, he says we do but not tonight. I’m here by myself. He told me he was only like 10 min down the road. My husband agreed to go pick up the food. Here is where the fun really begins. I hung up the phone at 7:40pm. My husband walked out of the room at 7:45pm. He wazed the address which said it was only 8 min away from the casino. 20 min later my husband calls me and says the address listed is a vacant location. So I call them back and asked him to please give me the exact address so I can GPS it. He says it’s the same address as 809 takeout. I explained to him in Spanish of course that the address listed was not coming up on GPS. Again he says it’s the same one. I googled the address while on the phone with him and 105 Rt 611 Swiftwater pops up. I asked him if that is the correct address, he says yes. I call the husband back and give him this different address, husband calls me back 20 min later and says that address is for a liquor store. My husband is talking to the owner of the liquor store and that gentleman has no idea where this place is either. Ok so now we are both pretty upset. Once again I call the restaurant and explain to the guy that the address is not right. I was very frustrated at this point my husband is driving around in an unfamiliar area, everyone he asks has no idea where this place is. The worst part is the guy at the restaurant had no clue! I asked for some sort of landmark, the name of a business that he could give me to help pinpoint the exact location, and he just couldn’t do it! Just kept saying it’s at the same place! 845pm after driving up and down Rt 611 my husband calls me back and says forget it, I’m coming back to the hotel we will just eat at the buffet. I called the restaurant back and said forget it we couldn’t find the place. Then he says oh we will just bring it to you. I said what do you mean, you said there was no delivery tonight. He said we are closing in 15 min, my delivery boy is back. Really! I didn’t even know what to say to him, he quickly said yes my guy already left with your food. I quickly called my husband and told him that now the food was being delivered, keep in mind he hasn’t coming back yet from this«wild goose chase». Wont go into details as to his initial response, as this is a family friendly website. After calming him down he said fine I’ll just wait for him downstairs. The delivery guy called my cell at 903pm, and said he was in the lobby. My husband walked in the door at 9:10pm with food. What a disaster! We got takeout food an 1and ½ hours after placing order. Now I am well aware that Unilocalers rely on Unilocal for food reviews, but I feel that it is important that I warn my fellow Unilocalers about this to avoid any one else sharing our fate. Food was ok. Pork chops were dry but did have flavor, despite the fact that they were cold. No microwave in room. Black beans were ok too, just not used to getting black beans from a dominican restaurant and prefer the red beans. The stuffed potato appetizer was very greasy, though the ground beef was seasoned well. I don’t know that my food review would have been better had I tasted the food within 20 min of it being prepared. But an hour and a half later it tasted worthy of 3 stars. Final note on actual address: The actual address is 2177 Rt 611 Swiftwater PA. We found this out as we were driving back home to NY. As for landmark, it is located near the Pocono Cheesecake Factory.(You will see bilboard ads all over) Really wish someone would have offered us this information!

I found this place on Unilocal during our trip to the Great Wolf Lodge, I didn’t think it was going to be anything great but was pleasantly surprised when it was great food! Service was good — fast and efficient. Place was clean. The rice and beans w/olives was so delicious, I couldn’t stop eating it. The renejo de papa was heavenly! My pernil sandwich didn’t stand a chance! We will definitely stop there again when we are in the area!

I been here once and it was the only spanish food place that we found when we were on vacation at Poconos. The food was very delicious. But it was too greasy. The platanos were full of oil and the fish was really bad. I give it 4 stars because we were looking for a place to eat and when we found it, we were happy.

There are no food choices here! They offer something for checking in but they don’t even have it.

The food has been consistently good over the years. I’m usually in the area with a group and we get a variety of food to share. Even though they give a pretty good portion of food, I can never go without getting a few crunchy pastelitos with chicken or beef inside and sweet plantains with my order.

Wonderful. The guy behind the counter was awesome. I told him what I wanted(Americanized) and he served it up and told me what it was traditionally called for my future visits. He was also giving me suggestions as to his personal favorites which I took and they turned out to be great as well. Reasonable and I’m told authentic by my Hispanic friends and colleges. Yum. Big servings.

Authentic Spanish/Dominican food! Pastelitos were amazing, I had chicken and cheese. The pernil was on point. And the rice and beans were delicious! Yum! Thanks for being out here.

Best place in the Pocono’s to get real Dominican food. A great place for anyone who wants good Spanish food at a good price. Highly recommend.

We love ethnic food of all stripes and excited to read about the highly rated take-out halfway between our home in New York and our weekend place in the Poconos. The 809 was not what we expected. It’s a small hard-to-see storefront, unless you know it’s located directly across the highway from the State Police in Swiftwater, on the northbound side of Route 611. The food is ready-prepared, laid-out buffet style behind the counter. You choose from among the offerings there and they serve them up for you in take-out containers. Despite the extensive menu, there are few choices. Most of the menu is «we don’t have that today.» Got soup? Not today. How about a sandwich. We don’t have any bread. We can describe it as Dominican comfort food — chicken or pork over rice with sides of brown beans in sauce. We’re happy we tried it and the service is friendly, but the 809 Take-out has limited appeal.

Pretty decent takeout place, although prices are a bit high; I guess I’m not in NYC. Taste authentic and owner said they’re from the Bronx so its what I expect in terms of Spanish /Dom food

Kids loved it, they loved the rice. My wife loved the stewed chicken and yellow rice.

I live in Flushing, Queens and work in the Bronx; both places are great spots for good, cheap ethnic food. With that said, the Poconos is not! So when I’m in the Poconos for a few days, I start to miss the selection I have back home. Just by chance I happened to stop by 809 Take Out, and I am glad I did. I was just on my way to Mount Airy Casino and wanted something quick and cheap, but I didn’t want fast food or Chinese. For roughly the price of a value meal, I had pernil, rice and beans, and a Coke. The pernil was comparable to what I get in the Bronx… and that is more than I thought I could expect in PA. 809 Take Out will definitely be on my short list of places to eat while in the Poconos from now on.

For take out, this is like midtown NYC local-yokal lunch spot. Lunches are very reasonably priced, and they served a generous portion(plus a bottle of water). The food is authentic and delicious. I will absolutely take out from 809 again.

I have been looking for a takeout place with good, affordable meals for those days when I have to work too late and have no time to cook. I decided to try 809 as soon as I found it online, and boy, I am very happy I did. The food was very tasty, affordable and the cleanness of the shop can’t be beat. The food portions were generous, and tasted just like home! Service was prompt and courteous, the menu is varied and the store hours are quite generous. I will be stopping there again! I highly recommend this stop for anyone looking for some tasty, affordable Caribbean food.

Best roasted Chicken in the Poconos. It is their slogan, and also 100% accurate! Very affordable prices. Very clean place. LOVEIT! Also their Ox Tails are to die for! If you want REAL Spanish food you must visit 809! I have yet to get anything bad from this diamond in the rough of Swiftwater!
