We absolutely ADORE PCS! This is one of our favorite theaters outside of the city, and frankly, we favor it over the city. A great bonus is that PCS offers ½ price tickets often if you are signed up for weekly Philly Funsavers emails.
My caveat is that their Second Stage productions are what I am mainly talking about when I talk about PCS. The mainstage productions are largely Broadway hits/​musicals, which I normally can’t stomach. There was a mainstage production about the Barnes Foundation we saw, and some less-​blockbuster-​y titles they put on, which we’ve enjoyed, but I get a lot more enjoyment out of their Second Stage.
Second Stage does the more esoteric plays, which are not G-​rated like the majority of main stage. Second Stage’s plays are perhaps racier, emotionally difficult, more intellectual, etc. and we like those plays which make one think and feel and process, as opposed to a consumable experience, that goes down smooth, like «Singin’ in the Rain.»
The second stage is located upstairs, in a blackbox-​type theater. It is a smaller, more intimate atmosphere, and makes for a more quiet and relaxed evening, as opposed to the circus effect that can happen downstairs on a particularly packed night. Second Stage just perfectly aligns with our preferences, and our taste.
Second Stage is cash only at the door ($ 10) which also reflects the more casual atmosphere (and better price!). They often have homemade refreshments for sale, and of course, access to all the facilities downstairs for bathroom, ticket office, etc. Note that unfortunately Second Stage (because it is cash, and only $ 10), does not offer the ½ price tickets deals in Funsavers, that is just for main stage.
Can’t wait for the next Second Stage production! Thank you, PCS, for creating such a treasure of a venue.

Excellent shows. Theatrical talent locally is very good. Musicals are excellent.

We saw a production of South Pacific a couple of years back that was excellent.

A Perfect Ganesh closes and Little Women opens on Friday and Saturday this Thanksgiving weekend. You owe it to yourself to come see one or the other. Little Women will delight the kids and family. A Perfect Ganesh is like Miracle-​Gro for you imagination and heart.
