After taking a brief intro to knitting class at a nearby chain store, I felt bewildered and lost as a beginning knitter. I discovered this gem of shop while wandering around Swarthmore one evening. Long story short, I am now well on my way to knitting a beautiful hat, something I never imagined being capable of! Whatever level you knit at, there is surely something here for you. Cathy, the patient owner, always has the right word or approach to help you understand.

While I agree Finely A Knitting Party does not have the vast selection of some other area yarn shops, the owner is absolutely a peach and that is a very rare quality in yarn shop owners, at least, yarn shop owners in the Delco/​Montco suburbs.
Kathy, the owner, is always gracious, even when she has a full class running and a number of customers waiting for help. There’s a nice vibe to this shop. That’s why I keep going back.
She stocks a nice mix of yarns including a selection of luxury type-​yarns, and more moderately priced, mainstream yarns like Plymouth and Brown Sheep. There are plenty of good deals to be had!

I’ve taken several classes here, and have enjoyed them all. Prior to my first class, I had never knitted before. The classes are very relaxed, and the students are a mixed crowd. I love the coffee/​tea break we have mid-​class. There is also a Dunkin Donuts and a non-​chain coffee shop around the corner… perfect for grabbing your beverage of choice before heading into class.

A really sweet knitting shop, perfect for the Swarthmore Square corridor, but the selection isn’t anything to take the trip out for — most of the space is taken up by a big table for knitters and classes — which is great and shows a lot of focus on community, but they just can’t have the stash to make this one of the top dogs of knitting stores in the area.
