I loathe buying trees and shrubs at the «Big Box Stores». Yes they are cheaper, but I am always a bit skeptical about where they get their trees from, and there is never anyone who can answer any questions! As there seems to be a lack of nurseries in the PVD area, we headed to MA to see what we could find. (Oh, just have to mention that many in RI were not open on a Saturday in April… really RI?)
We had driven by Redwood Nursery on Rt 6 many times, and occasionally stopped by to look. They have a lovely little set up with many unique plants that you would not find a the big retailers. I have always browsed in the past, but this time, we were on a mission. We needed some trees, but had not done our homework to identify exactly what we wanted. We thought we take the opportunity to peruse the selection, to help with our decision making. What we actually found was super helpful and knowledgeable staff who helped up problem solve and find the perfect trees for our space. We purchased the trees that day, they delivered them that evening! The service and knowledgeable staff more than make up for the slightly higher prices that you would find elsewhere.

Finally got to this great nursery. Like visiting a botanical garden. Steps from a busy route 6 but all I heard were the butterflies. And we all know how noisy butterflies can be. Went on Labor Day and there was a buy two get one free sale on perennials. Beautiful selection. And found a perfect garden Buddha too!

Great garden center. They also sponsor the URI Master Gardener program, which is cool. Prices are high but the products are way way better than you’d get at Home Despot.

I WAS a good customer of the Redwood Nursery. I have purchased over 20 trees and shrubs from them over the years. In April this year I spoke to the owner about having them remove some shrubs and plant some new ones in the front of my home. He said I should call back in May to make an appointment. I called back in May and left a message. I did not receive a call back, I kept trying, calling and leaving a message on a machine. Last week (we are in late June now) I spoke to the owner he told that he was going to come by over the weekend and would call me to let me know exactly when, he never did. I should say at this point that I was never rude or angry with my messages or conversation with the owner, the one time we did speak he did apologize for not returning any of my calls.
I have wasted a few months and wanted to share my experience. I am planning to find another Landscaping/​Garden Center that would appreciate my business. I am more angry at myself for trying to be a loyal customer to a business that obviously could care less.
Don’t waste your time at Redwood Nursery!

This is a nice garden center with a good selection of annuals, perennials and trees. They also offer mulch, potting soil and really anything else you would need to plant and maintain your gardens or lawn. They have an excellent array of organic lawn and garden care items as well. Everything is displayed beautifully and service is always friendly and helpful. The plants and trees are always in tip-​top shape. The reason for only three stars is the price. Their items are usually priced higher than many in the area. It doesn’t stop me from browsing, but I tend to only buy things there that I can’t find anywhere else.
