Hansel and Gretel

This is awful. I found a cockroach in the bread today. Not going back at all. Health inspection is needed.

I gave 3 stars only because I like the cakes here but other k-​bakeries are better in my opinion. I would have been happier going to the Mozart bakery inside the Assi supermarket food court. The service is ok but not great. I get the distinct feeling that this is not as friendly to non Koreans. Like another reviewer said just can’t put my finger on why it does not feel as welcoming. It’s not cheap either. $ 6.30 for a small latte and cheese bagel I expect to at least have wifi available. Not a place you go to sit by yourself to study or work. Second time here. First time my tea was horribly made. This time my coffee is good but like I said could be better. I think their cakes here are pretty good as I’ve bought a couple for my wife but in future I will frequent places like Mozart or white windmill. Much better places to go sit and work. I wish this was better because it is so close to home for me.

I got the macaroons and they were stale. Also no outlets at all. Not a good place to study or work.

Drinks were just okay. We got a green tea sweet roll, which turned out to taste like it was a few days old (a little stale). Most of the baked good also had nuts/​walnuts so not good for ppl with nut allergies. The green tea shaved ice also had an underwhelming amount of toppings. Don’t think I’ll be returning.

The best Korean bake shop in k-​town in my opinion. The bread is made fresh daily just like other bake shops in town. The quality of the bread tastes mug better than others such that the bread isn’t as tough or stale. The flavoring of the different breads is lightly sweetened — perfect combination with a cup of coffee. Ambience could use a little upgrade as you can notice the wear and tear of the seating. Pricing is average.

I used to frequent this location for their EXCELLENT Malmizal (sp?) french toast bread. It was covered in honey, a little cheese and fried on the outside which meant a burst of heavenly crunchy, sweet and salty flavor with the first bite. Well.. . they changed it. Now, their Honey butter french toast, as they call it, is not as crunchy, not salty, just overly sweet.
Called in advance to buy a bunch for co-​workers and the girl who picked up wasn’t helpful at all. Granted, they didn’t have it anymore but she didn’t even bother, didn’t ask others if they knew anything, just said «I don’t know what you’re talking about». Wow. Work on your customer service and your breads. I won’t be back unless I hear they’ve brought their old recipe back.

I used to come here quite often a couple years ago but only because it was close to my house. I went recently after a very long time, and oh my…

The macarons were so bad. Terribly bad. We got 2 green tea and 2 raspberry. That first bite… let me just start off by saying that the first bite of anything is the most important just as the first glance is important for two lovers. When I took the first bite out of the macaron, it was terribly stale and crunchy. I was being bold and i took a huge bite, but it just wouldn’t let me take a bite into it. Instead, the outer shell rained all over the table. Of course, if I was alone, I would have been trying to play it off cool, but I was with my sister so we both just burst out laughing at how bad everything was.
We also got their green tea bingsu which didn’t taste so good either… But we don’t know exactly why it didn’t taste good. Their man shaped cookies still taste exactly the same, so that’s good. I guess.

We visited 03÷14÷15 @ 3:35 PM.
We visit this location very often and we never have any issues regarding service. It never is spectacular but never did we receive any negative service. However, as we stand in front of the register to order, the employee proceeded to look at us and then immediately look over to her coworker to talk about a non-​work related matter. A little confused, we tried to cut them off to order but they continued to ignore us until their conversation was finished. Then, as they gave us a sullen look, they finally gave us permission to order.
I understand that you might not have the capacity or motivation to enjoy your job but this is someone else’s business. I hope that management will address this issue.

What a cute little Korean café! I’ve never been to a Korean bakery before so this was a nice treat. Though I wish more of the cakes came in mini sizes rather than whole. They also had a selection of various pastries with things like red bean paste and sweet buttercream. We ordered a mocha cake thing and it was delicious. Rich, creamery, and sweet we wolfed it down. I would have given it another star but again I hate the fact that most of the cakes only came as full cakes.

First, unbelievable they dont have free wifi here. The prices of the drinks, pastry, and cake are comparable to the usual korean cafes. That means drinks are especially pretty overpriced for low quality. Dont get the bubble tea if youve been to anywhere like sweethut, kungfu tea, quicklys, suno etc.
The customer service is also horrible. The employee was very rude when we complained about something made wrong.
And if oure going to charge that much for everything, you cant avoid providing wifi. Those prices are largely for the SPACE.
This places makes me go the the starbucks across more often, even though Im sick of starbucks.

I’ve been to Hansel and Gretel many times before so I’m not sure why I haven’t reviewed them until now. They’re kind of a typical Korean bakery, but there’s something about this place that feels cozy. Maybe it’s the round booths or the earthy brown colors in the restaurant.
I had a slice of chocolate mousse cake. I can’t remember the exact name of it, but it was a bit dry (maybe it was a little too old or kept in the fridge too long). The coffee here is always served at the right temperature where it’s not too chilled. I had a sip of my boyfriend’s frozen hot chocolate. That was actually the winner of this visit. It’s definitely icey and not so creamy. The cup felt heavy from holding it, but it was clearly mostly ice that made it so heavy.
I’ll probably come back if I’m in the area.

Service is so so, their bread n cake choices are better than Mozart imo. But they always run out of items early. They close late and they are already out of many bread choices at 3pm… if you want sthg particular, come early :(

After trying both locations (the Duluth location closed down), I don’t think I’m a fan of Hansel & Gretal Bakery. There’s just something I can’t put my finger on. Perhaps the atmosphere isn’t as inviting as, for instance, White Windmill. With this, coupled with the fact that their drinks aren’t awesome, I’m not really a fan. I’d say it’s average, and I will possibility return if I’m wanting a different scenery.
The green tea bubble was recommended as one of the more favorite items since I wanted something cold. I should have gone for the mocha since I was leaning on this. Well, the green tea wasn’t terrible, but it tasted powdery. The tapioca were somewhat hard and not really chewy at all. And near the bottom, there were ice chunks. The baked goods here were limited, but it could be because it was sold out during the day or because they stopped making it after a certain hour since it was late when I visited.
Seating was limited since I was here around 7:30 PM just yesterday (Sunday evening). This time seems to be the prime time for families (mom, dad, brother, sister, grandchildren, etc.) to be out and chilling here. Really. And then I couldn’t locate any outlet plug-​in for my computer in or around the round booths nor tables. I didn’t see a wifi connected on my phone either (and I didn’t care to ask).
Parking was plentiful since the bakery is located in the Assi supermarket complex. If you’re looking at Assi, Hansel & Gretal Bakery is to the right near the end corner.

I have mixed feelings about Korean bakeries, I love some items and I very much dislike others.
I went in looking for a cake, but obviously took a look at everything else they had to offer. I was disappointed in their bread selection, they didn’t have that many items, not sure if it was because it was a Saturday afternoon. Their dessert selection was small, but I opted to try the chocolate cake and ordered a cold latte. I probably should have told them not to mix my latte, just pour in the espresso shot, but that’s ok. Taste-​wise, it was fine. The chocolate cake wasn’t bad. It was a chocolate castella/​roll cake with whipped cream. It was very airy and spongy, but not decadent.
As in all Korean bakeries, the service is great.

From my expectations of Korean bakeries, this one does not make my top list. I can see why the other one shut down. Not a lot of selection of bread and service sucked bad. So I always request honey green tea (not common at Korean bakeries which is odd since they have other honey «something’s») and the barista claimed that she did not want to make it. How rude! Never tell a customer that. So in revolt of that, I got a white chocolate latte… I say «ew, bleh». Really bitter and no taste of white chocolate. Total waste of money. From my experience, I am not returning.

As far as Korean cake goes, we prefer this place to that of White windmill or Mozart.
I would rate cakes as followed: Hansel (better than) Windmill (better than) Mozart.
This is where we go for birthday cakes. Not too sweet, fresh and just right.
Plus, they always give complimentary treat with a cake purchase. One time we got a sweet garlic bread, it was sinfully good! My ban on carbs goes out the window with this bread. It’s good alone or when dipping with coffee.
Another time they gave us curry bread, which was surprisingly good.
This time, we were given this garlic bread/​pound cake like goodie. It was delicious!

Don’t ever get the cakes here. My brother recently bought a cake from this bakery and it tasted dry and old. I heard a rumor that they only sell OLD cakes! That’s so horrible!
So I’ll never go to another Hansel and Gretel bakery, again! Just not worth my time and money. Even though the atmosphere is really cute. also, their prices are a bit pricey for their lack in baked goods quality.

Hansel and Gretel is a Korean bakery and café with two locations in metro Atlanta (Duluth and Suwanee). This review is for the Suwanee location, which can be found in the Assi shopping plaza on Old Peachtree Road. If facing Assi, Hansel and Gretel is on the right.
This is a small, cute, sort-​of-​fairy-​tale-​themed bakery. It’s not decked out in a ton of whimsical décor like, say, Tree Story (Duluth). However, when you step inside, it does feel like you’ve entered a German cottage deep in the forest. One of the coolest features to me are the many semi-​private circular booths lining the walls. Tall, elaborate cakes, silhouettes of children playing, faux brick facades, and hanging lanterns are used for décor. The servers wear adorable uniforms (striped shirts, aprons, and hats) and all tie their hair the same way.
Like many people, my first experience with Hansel and Gretel was one of their amazing cakes. Among the Asian bakeries around town, I think Hansel and Gretel makes one of the most visually stunning and appetizingly decadent cakes (photo:
). Whole pre-​made cakes are typically in the $ 20 to $ 30 range. The store has a handy guide letting you know approximately how many people each cake feeds.
In addition to cakes, you can find all sorts of fresh-​baked breads and pastries, prepackaged cookies and sweets, and a variety of coffees and teas. Generally, everything is good, though I have run into disappointing batches of old macarons, where the outer layers were hard and dry. You can buy any set of two same-​flavor macarons for $ 2.99 or a set of three assorted-​flavor macarons for $ 4.49. Flavors offered include citron, lemon, pomegranate, chocolate, blueberry, mocha, and green tea.
Try one of the chiffon cakes. You can order them whole or by the slice ($ 3.99 per). Flavors offered include mocha, strawberry, chocolate, and green tea. As intended, the cakes are airy, spongy, and fluffy. They’re much lighter and not as dense as a traditional cake. Very delicious.
Orders are served in charming baskets and little square trays with real plates.

The main reason why I like this Suwanee location of Hansel and Gretel Bakery the most, out of all the locations to choose from, is that they open at 8:00am. Most of the other locations do not open until 9:00, which is just too late for me to eat breakfast most of the time. Located in the same multi-​floor shopping complex as Assi Grocery Store and Cho-​gat-​jip Pizza and Chicken.
From the outside, it does not look like much, but inside the space is quite large. If you arrive early, the baked goods are still warm and not bagged yet. So, they can be viewed in all of the sweet and beautiful glory, hand-​picked with tongs. After curating a tray of breakfast goodies as delicious as this, just pick a drink at the register, or just grab-​and-​go.
The seating is really comfortable, all in semi-​circle shaped booths. I’m always surprised that there are not more people dining in on the weekends. But, it seems like most of the business is to-​go.
My favorite item at this location is the triangle Brick Toast, that looks savory, but is crusted in sugary-​butter.
They also serve mediocre bubble tea, and in the summer serve Pat-​bing-​soo.
I have only been here for breakfast, and can only handle one pastry item at a time. These goodies are like massive doughnuts, eating too many will hit like a ton of bricks.
