When we moved to Amador County and built our new home, little could we imagine that we’d find an interior design expert in Sutter Creek as knowledgeable and helpful as Larry Shaw was in guiding us through the whole process.
When he first came to our building site, the walls were only studs. When I asked if, perhaps we’d brought him out too early he replied «No, this is perfect». Already he was making some structural suggestions that resulted in our bedroom and master bath being much more functional and visually pleasing.
Over the next year he worked tirelessly with us on each of the countless decisions we made with regards to fixtures, lighting, tiles, cabinetry, flooring, drapes, colors, and furniture. Because he is a great listener, at each step of the way he presented us with 3 or 4 choices that were all appropriate options for us. Because he knows his business, product lines, and vendors so well, he was able to educate us regarding quality, cost and durability in a way that our final decisions were exactly what we wanted and could afford.
Larry worked extremely well with our contractor and subcontractors and was one of the reasons that our whole building process was such an enjoyable one for us. My wife, especially, found Larry’s professionalism and guidance invaluable as he presented us with decisions in a manageable way by discussing the pros and cons of each option. Through the whole process we relied heavily on Larry’s judgement and his vision of translating the space we built into a harmonious whole that is now our warm and wonderful home.
We’ve been in our new home now for over two years and couldn’t be happier with the way it looks and feels. We often think back on the many times that Larry’s informed opinions helped make our home so special to us. We could not have been more happy with the comprehensive services that Larry provided us. We’d previously worked with two designers for other homes we had in the Bay Area and Larry is without a doubt the best!

I needed a lot of help updating my 20 year old home in the Sierras. Larry is so creative and a real pro when it comes to design. He started with «We need a floor plan». He progressed to look at color, style, always with a view towards what I liked, flexing to my inclinations. He pulled together an amazing look and feel for my great room. Sofa, swivel chairs, area rug, new accent color for one wall. He updated a guest bedroom with gorgeous drapes and custom bedspread. We are now working on another guest bedroom, for which he found a perfect fabric to complement the existing bedding. He is sensitive to price and very practical in using resources to their best advantage, and my priorities.
He also has advised on another home in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he visited me while seeing another client. I am convinced he can work with any style. A delight to work with – so much fun, playing with wall colors and fabrics.
Today, I am so pleased as I sit in my great room. It is a visual delight, and my family is so comfortable in it. All because of Larry’s talent.
