Having been to just about every other barber shop and salon in town, I decided to give this place a try. There were no reviews on Unilocal,so I figured I could write the first. I called and set an appointment. They were hesitant to let me stroll in when I felt like it. Apparently they were having a busy day.(I did not see any other customers when I walked in 15 minutes early.) Upon entering, I was pleased that this salon was of the humble variety. I hate pretentious, frou-frou places like the nearby Jean Claude Biguine, where everything is white and the hair dressers look like they are in a 90s music video. Hair 2000 Inc., I am happy to report, is more down to Earth, and nobody there was wearing a uniform. The owner, Samy(pronounced«Sammy»), was sporting a black suit that looked a bit out of place, though. Since I arrived with time to spare, I was handed a book featuring pictures of really skinny men(models) sporting the latest hair styles. I was asked to point out the ones that interested me the most. I thumbed through the pages while my stylist stood over my shoulder, raining down hot breath upon my person. It was uncomfortable. Not being the type of guy that likes to put much effort into styling his hair, I opted to get a simple trim. The stylist said he knew what I wanted and then proceeded to give me something totally different. I sat in the chair for what felt like an eternity, probably around 45 – 60 minutes. That is way longer than I am used to for a simple trim. I was not sure if he was being methodical, or trying to fix his mistakes. Me thinks the latter. I was asked to unbutton my shirt several times so he can gain better access to my neck line. At one point, I felt kind of naked. And to make matters worse, one of the girls that worked there would not stop staring at me with a contorted look on her face. Was she horrified by what was being done to my head? Did my worried facial expression make her want to fart? I cannot say for sure. In the end, I did not get what I wanted, but the haircut does not look awful, either. It is a bit shorter and more feminine than I am used to. *Sigh* You know what, I kind of hate it. But I am not going to let it get to me. The price I paid was fair – $ 25 for a men’s haircut + tip.(I leave tips even when I am unhappy.) I had enough money left over to get something to eat at a nearby restaurant. Would I recommend this place to a friend? No. But to be fair, some lady came in for a hair cut and she appeared to be a repeat customer. Maybe I just got stuck with a crappy stylist :(
