Rita’s Italian Ice

Fast, friendly service and clean! Root beer and vanilla soft serve gelati and mango ice for our daughter and cookies and cream for son and cheery ice for other daughter! Line up for window service or come in for air-​condition and wait in an orderly line. It’s worth the wait though they’re fairly quick getting everyone served up!

I love this place. Frozen custard and Italian ice mixed in the Gelato are fantastic. Frozen lemonade is also very refreshing. I crave the Gelatos. New flavors weekly. Yumm

So, my family is visiting relatives on Long Island Beach, right? We see this Rita’s place selling frozen custard. My mom and my sister are, like, flipping out, right, cuz they love frozen custard. To me, it just tastes like frozen yogurt, ya know? They say I must not have had had the right kind, and hey, I’m open minded, so I think why not.
So we go in, and they offer us a free sample, and they got three, chocolate, vanilla and coffee, so I say I’ll try the coffee one. I’VE NEVAH HAD ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE! My family was totally right, I dunno what I’d been eatin’ before, but it wasn’t Rita’s custard! They have lotsa toppings, including peanut butter sauce which is always my favorite. I just sat outside eatin’ my custard sundae and tried to not to make as many «Mmmm!» noises as I wanted to, but I was in custard heaven! I think this is a chain, so if you have one near you and you’ve always wanted to try frozen custard, check it out!
(I see some people have posted about problems with access to the bathroom, at least in this location. We didn’t need to use it, so I can’t speak to that, but I do think there was a sign that said the bathroom was off-​limits to the public, which I don’t think is particularly considerate.)

Owner would not give us ONE cup of water to wash my daughter’s retainer. We were the only ppl in there and bought SIX custards and ices. Rude! No bathroom either.

If you have never tried custard, this is the place to test it out. This place sits on Long Beach Blvd in Surf City and attracts a good crowd at night. They serve not only 4 or 5 kinds of delicious custard ice cream, but they also serve some nice Ice inventions and sundaes. The staff is fast and friendly and the prices are just right. Highly recommend it!

Ice cream and gelato as great as always, but, shame on you Rita’s Surf City! Yes, I see your «no public restroom sign». But do you see my eleven year old nearly weeping from needing to urinate after spending $ 25 here? No, I’m not in a wet bathing suit just having come off the beach seeking facilities. As I explained, I’m staying in Beach Haven, miles south of here, returning from trip to lighthouse. I grew up here, year round, brought my kids back for a week of sun and fun. So sad to see lack of humanity in situation that merited it!

Custard to die for!
This is my favorite custard on the island. They also have hand packed gelato to go. I’d give em 5 stars if there was a better spot to sit and enjoy my treat. The bench out front just doesn’t cut it.

Needed a little sweetness after lunch and since we’ll hit up ice cream numerous times this week we just went across the street to Rita’s…besides, we were too early to move in. Normal Rita’s fare, VERY friendly service, just what we needed before unpacking. Can’t ask for much more out of a Rita’s. A gelati is one of my favorite desserts…
