Awesome hike. Turn left at the sign and trail head is about a mile down a worn paved road. This trail took about 3 hours for me with about 15 mins admiring the views at the top. Starts off slow but gets a little tricky the higher up. There are some areas you will need to scramble up which give your arms a workout and heart if you are not great with heights. Make sure to keep focused on locating the cairns or painted markers along the way, I lost the trail a couple of times but it’s not hard to find it again. Spectacular 360° views from the top but just as awesome on the way up if you cant make it the whole way. Overall a challenging trail and my legs will be feeling sorry tomorrow but I 100 percent recommend it to anyone.

We did this at the end of the day. Your first impressions are«wow» the cactus, cows everywhere, birds and no one else was there. After 1.5 mikes it turns«up» and your heart gets a great workout, worth the drive.

Travis’ review is still great and accurate. It took us about 3.5 hours as well but we started out on the wash instead of the trailhead. We had two dogs with us. The german shorthair had only minor complaints and was great whereas the senior rhodesian ridgeback had to turn back due the scrambles. Loved seeing a lot of cattle. 4.5 miles never seemed so difficult. Good trail. Not many crowds even on a weekend.

this was our first trip to picketpost and it did not let down. first off, we started about 9am and finished at 1:30pm at a leisurely pace, so you may can do faster if you want. the initial ascent is gradual, very visible… through grassy areas replete with saguaro’s. it quickly turned into a scramble, up barely found trails, watching closely for cairns. alot of hand over hand, but nothing fearful… about like the flatiron hike. this time of year(early march), there was still some water runoff and even a few wildflowers popping up. reaching the top, we were greeted with great 360* views and even a mailbox… filled with trinkets and a journal. we left a Unilocal pin for good measure! the descent is sketchy, but easily doable. not too many hikers as it’s more of a drive, but it’s extremely worth it to escape the crowds at the flatiron hike. take US60 east towards superior. just before the town, there will be a turn off to the right, well signed. good parking with pit toilets, no water. my dog can handle this(mutt, 50lbs, 7 yrs old) but we ran across a boxer on trail that was struggling, so you decide if your dog can do it. great day hike with great views. i wouldn’t recommend this one in the summer… or any hike around here, so get out there now and have fun.
