I’ve been in Central Oregon for 5 months and contribute the majority of my success fishing the rivers and lakes here to Fred and John at Cascade Guides and The Hook Fly Shop. They’re always willing to share their knowledge and help you get what you need for a great time. This past weekend was the first guided trip I took with them. We were catching monster rainbows within the first 10 minutes. We hooked 15 fish and landed 11 (all over 16″). Not only was it a great day catching fish and getting to know Fred better, but he really took the time to help me become better at casting and teaching me what to look for. It was the best fishing experience I’ve had since I’ve been here and I can’t wait to go with them again. If you’re thinking about booking a trip, just do it! You won’t be sorry!

We had 6 people in our party including 3 young children 10 to 13 of age, the man I spoke with in the Fly Shop suggested that we fish by boat on East Lake. We met at the Fly Shop at 9am, drove to East lake and was on the water around 10am. Howard, our guide was great with the kids and knew the lake very well. We hooked around 20 fish and landed 15 with a mixture of Browns, Rainbows, Black River Trout and kokanee. The other Boat that was with us did a little better than that (3 per boat). I highly recommend it.

We took our sons on their first fly fishing trip on the Crooked River. Bryon, our guide, did a wonder job of working with our 11 and 7 year-​olds on their casting and hitting the right holes on the river. He showed great patience and enthusiasm. Hope this trip established my boys’ joy of flyfishing going forward!
