You should understand before going here that this is Chinese fast food. If you want something fancier, don’t come to China Wok. Sometimes I’m in a hurry and just want some quick, cheap food that isn’t a drive-thru burger and fries so this place is a nice alternative. It has easy/close parking, you can get in and out pretty fast(unless they are slammed at lunch time), and the gal at the counter is super friendly. She always throws in some extra egg rolls for me. Now, the food. I usually stick with the simple items including the chow mein, chicken salad, and veggies. I really like the simplicity of the noodles and chicken salad. They are very light and tasty(even though they don’t look like anything special). I tried fried chicken today and it was VERY dry, super tough. I will not order that again. All in all, I think that if you stick to the basics, this is a nice choice for a quick/cheap lunch or dinner.

Very kind, fast and welcoming service! As soon as I entered the woman behind the counter start helping me. It’s the first time I entered this place and I asked a few question which the nice lady answered with a smile. We took our order to go, I had orange chicken with salad and my husband took their beef broccoli and rice. Other items looked good and later I targeted not taking the beef and vegetables as well. The food was tasty, the dish size is big, and the price for their portion is more than reasonable. I’m glad I found this place for a quick grab and go. It’s a small corner shop with very few tables in it. I didn’t have too much time to look around and therefore don’t have much of the impression of the Inside, I was in and out with the food very fast and during the little time I spent inside I concentrated on the food and server behind the counter. I believe I’m going to use them often for take outs, so I’ll be able to write updates.

«Oh my god, they’re cooking their garbage!» It’s terrible, terrible, tasting food! I ordered chow mein(flavorless puke) house chicken(cat food) and walnut shrimp(nauseating with every bite) I know i’m sounding extremeley negative, but stop by and find out. Anybody with intact taste buds will agree.

Had just gone to Michael’s Hallmark to mail a package because I can’t stand the USPS on Fremont, and decided to pick up a couple of main dishes to take home and make dinner easier. I’m not too crazy about the interior of the place. There are hand-lettered signs all over the hot steam counter/ordering/register area. Not that I’m against typography, and am all for cursive, but there’s a LOT of it, to the point of visual clutter. It’s almost like you’re expected to stand there and read the signs to know what to do instead of being helped. Anyhow, it gives the place a sort of messy look that’s not too inviting. I looked past it and at the food in the warming pans. I noticed right off that there was a nice variety of the usual Americanized Chinese fare: Orange chicken, broccoli beef, honey prawns, mixed vegetables, chow mein, fried rice, and more. I chose to get 2 small containers of orange chicken and pork ribs to go with homemade steamed rice and steamed vegetables that I could easily cook up at home. There were almond cookies at the register, 4/$ 1.59. Not sure if the cookies are homemade or if they were bought in bulk… I suspect they are store bought, but don’t know for sure. Total for 2 small containers and almond cookies was $ 13. Pretty inexpensive. FOODAPPEARANCE: Very appetizing, good color. Looked pretty fresh. VALUE: Average, what I was expecting to pay. TASTE: Not bad, less salty than Panda Express. Reminded me a LOT of the Chinese I used to have with my family as a kid. I have Chinese hot mustard and Sriracha here to wake up the dishes I ordered. My daughter did not like the chicken or the ribs, and said that they were too chewy. SERVICE: I like the lady who works there, she seemed very friendly. RESTAURANT: As I said, not too inviting… kind of dark and cluttered. Not a lot of personality, lacks décor and outdated. PARKING: Great, big private shared lot.

Terrible food. Terrible menu, we threw it away and went somewhere else! We should have walked out when we walked in, but as locals we wanted to try local menus… mistake! Pricing is questionable. Very limited food. They had to make to order broccoli beef, and it tasted like fish!? The chow mein was also foul, super mushy. We will certainly not go back!

We went to this place two times. The food is yummy, the girl is sympathetic but she charge you the price that she want. In the sign says Chao mien or rice with any two items for 6.49 and she charge 7.99 usd plus the«especial items» because she say that items aren’t included. Any means any, otherwise change the sign or warn before choosing the items.

I knew I should of stayed away from here right when I walked in. All of the food looks very cold and old but I still decided to give it a try just cause the price was great. I ordered half chow mien/fried rice along with spicy chicken and orange chicken. It tasted very weird like it was old, there was barely any flavor into it, then my stomach started acting weird. Ahh China Wok, you guys have failed me. I would not recommend this spot to anyone.

Came in here to see what kind of food they had. The gal behind the counter was VERY friendly and personable. I was very taken aback at how well she served, both food and on people. She kept up small talk, recommended dishes and made sure to offer all of the great food her restaurant had. I got a two item with half salad/half chow mein, kung pao chicken and honey walnut shrimp. She threw on some of the sweet and sour chicken for me to try free of charge! The food was okay, not bad but good. I also got some veggie won ton soup. The won tons and broth were okay. I’ve had better. However, the veggies were very fresh and tasty.

I work down the street and I wish this place was so much better than it is! I always give it another chance thinking I may be biased by the ever so tasty Wok’s on on El Camino but this place just keeps disappointing me. The chicken in the chicken salad is too bready actually anything breaded is too bready. I’ve gotten the deluxe wonton soup a couple times and there’s always something different. This time is has rice noodle. ??? Where did that come from? I never usually add soy sauce to my dish, but I put half just to add some flavor because it was so bland. I hate to say it but I miss Mr. Chau’s. Instead I guess I’ll take the extra 15 minutes to go to Woks on. Everyone else can have this place! AHHH

I live near Santa Cruz, so Sunnyvale is a trip for me.(I visit the area, hence the review here.) Sunnyvale of course has a hundred different Asian restaurants, but my friend just moved into a place not far from this place. A very pleasant place for Chinese fast food. I read that the place used to be a Mister Chau’s, but the atmosphere feels different. Not as many items, which is probably to the good, and more differences from the Mister Chau’s I have eaten at in the past in the South Bay.(We have no equivalents in the Santa Cruz area. A pity. We have Panda Express, which is not bad. But not as many independent places Some good high end Chinese places, like O’Mei.) I had a couple of the chicken dishes(orange, and, probably, house) and noodles. Both were decent. The noodles were fat, not as deep-fried as some places.(Like Wok’s On, on El Camino Real, nearby, which I also like. The fried rice at Wok’s On is really great. The fried rice at China Wok did not look as «rich»(in ingredients, fried bits), so I opted for the chow mein noodles. Which were good, but also not crispy in the way some places serve them.) All in all, a nice place for a fast food meal. I told my friend I was visiting that I vote for this place as our«go to» place for good fast food.(That area has a thousand places to eat at, but there’s some stability/comfort in having a «go to» place to counteract the over choice of debating about which of N places to go to for a casual meal.) Also, I support the young woman behind the counter. A really interesting accent, kind of deep-voiced. Interesting. –Tim May, from Corralitos, near Santa Cruz

This is my go-to place if I want a quick pickup of some Chinese food. No waiting. The food is good, not Chinese restaurants’ good, but kind of like Panda Express. They are Amex small business. Visit them on SBS! I did in the past two years.

Great place for a quick reasonably priced meal. The helpings are generous and the lady behind the counter very friendly. We decided to eat there and she gave us free Chinese tea and soup.

This place is the definition of a mom and pop. It’s as authentic as it gets for Chinese street food — like armosphere. It’s quick fix place for you to hop in and hop out. The food on the trays behind the counter looks dry and not very appetizing. But once you order a meal it looks completely different in sunlight, a lot better. The food is very flavorful. I’ve been to places where they look amazing and pretty but is very bland in taste. So it’s a place to stop by if you’re on the go or take out. Soup is good too. Walnut shrimp is delish. Orange chicken is yummy. The lady behind the counter is pretty straightforward, but never rude. I think it’s just the Chinese customs. I like her though. She gets it done efficiently and is nice. But like I said, just straight forward.

This is my go to spot for a quick Chinese fix. Has a homey feel, offers more of a personal touch than panda express. It used to be Mr. Chau’s, but now it’s China Wok. The menu and employees have not changed. The lady who works there is extremely friendly, and always serves up extra-large helpings. I love their daichin chicken and honey walnut shrimp. Also love that you can get a salad instead of rice. Sometimes it will give me half salad, half rice and a side of meat. It’s usually a very filling meal. We also enjoy the fried fish and soup. I’m not crazy about the lemon chicken however. It’s friendly, quick, fresh and delicious. Unfortunately it appears to be closed these days because a car ran into the store. I hope it reopens soon! PS: yes! It has reopened.

My absolute favorite place to go to if I need a quick chinese food craving fix. Their house chicken is so good, I have a craving for it at just this location. Also, the lady who is always behind the counter is very sweet and cares about her customers. My sister and I have been coming back since we attended school at the high school nearest here :)

I usually have good service every time I come here. The same lady is always there & she’s friendly & you get big portions. The only down side is make sure you come during down times, rather than lunch & dinner peak times, otherwise you’ll have to wait for them to make more food.(As long as it’s not near closing time). The food is delicious! It’s always yummy & never greasy. My go-to choice for«fast food style» Chinese food! Support this mom & pop business!

I can’t believe the ratings are so low! Seriously the best fast food Chinese place around. You’ll never want to go back to panda after coming here. The lady is nice, and usually there is not a line except during the busiest points during lunch time. My usual is house chicken, beef and broccoli, and half and half of fried rice and chicken salad.

For a mom&pop fast Chinese stop in a forgotten strip mall, this place was a very pleasant surprise. The offerings were really fresh and the service was friendly… Definitely better than the big chain Panda Express… The portion is HUGE!

Independent Chinese fast food, cafeteria style counter service offering combo plates with chow mein or fried rice. Food to order also available. Very reasonably priced. Inside seating. The coconut shrimp is rich and delicious. It is deep fried small shrimp with coconut milk sauce and fresh cabbage. Seems popular for lunch with the contractors working in the area.
