Worst experience in my life. Went to restroom before left.

Service a little slow, but the food was rather delicious and priced great. I will definitely go back to this place again for lunch.

worst experience in Bay area in more than ten years for me. very bad taste, extremely horrible service, unbelievably dirty foods: one member of the group went diarrhea even in the restaurant, I had experienced any nausea or vomiting as soon as I came to office. Do NOT go here forever

The food is still good BUT I just had horrible service from them, the most annoying was they refused to take my credit card. My bill was a little over $ 20 for lunch, they said credit card for charges over $ 25. I have never heard of that and it’s not posted anywhere. Maybe they only did it to me. They have been my preferred place for Chinese food in downtown Sunnyvale. Now I will just go to Mountain View for my Chinese food fix!

This is our long time favorite Chinese restaurant. Many authentic dishes with consistent qualities.

I have been here several times over the years. It is a decent Chinese restaurant among those opened in the States for at least several decades. While the cooking of the restaurant does not seem to have changed much, it is hard for me to identify the style(s). Although on Unilocal it is listed as serving Sichuan, Hunan and Shanghai cuisines, I do not think that it is authentic for either of the styles.

As expected, this place is a just-so-so one. It locates at Sunnyvale downtown and serves food from multiple areas of China.

Been on a dumpling craze now the past 3 weeks. Decided to try Chef Yu Hunan in Sunnyvalle, CA Ordered My typical wonton in spicy sauce and steamed dumpling, in addition beef noodle soup(spicy). Wonton in spicy sauce: the wonton was as expected, but the sauce is what makes this dish. The sauce lacked a flavor or was watered down. Some chili had the spice necessary but the soy and vinegar proportions seemed off. Steamed dumpling/bao was ok. The skin didn’t break, which kept the juices in, but the shell was also thicker. Still expected pork flavor, but not the best. Most likely due to being frozen rather than freshly made. Spicy noodle beef stew: good amount of noodles and meat. Meat was very tender and spice was adequate for me, to sweat while eating. However the broth lacked depth in flavor. The broth was watered down very transparent in color. Broth is what makes the soup. Service was as expected, large dining area with around 5 other patrons.

This is always the choice if you prefer real Chinese dishes. My only complaint is it is rather cold inside for a early Winter lunch.

As expected, this place is a just-so-so one. It locates at Sunnyvale downtown and serves food from multiple areas of China which just made me instantly lost interests in this place. But someone insists… the food has a heavy MSG flavor, other than that I cannot taste anything special.

Authentic, not over the top spicy. The water boiled fish is fantastic!

My wife loves this place. There are a couple of spicy dishes she loves order every time. We live nearby so it’s not a bad choice for us to spend a casual Friday night or Sunday morning with some friends here. The only thing is it’s a little expensive, but given it’s location, I would say it’s understandable.

Well… It’s not Hunan, not Sichuan but maybe Shanghai. As I’ve experienced time and again, there is a belief that you throw hot peppers in a dish and you have Sichuan food. Unfortunately that is not the case and the chef hasn’t figured this out. The dan dan noodles tasted soy sauce and vinegar. Not peanuts but soybeans. Really odd taste and not good at all. The Qing cai(green vegetables, sorry I don’t know the English word) with pepper only tasted oil. It was a tad hot if you actually ate the pepper, which should not be necessary. Finally the mu shu pork(yes that is not real Chinese but I really like it), smelled strange and the crepes were almost like Mexican tortillas. Well… This one is crossed off my list.

I go here for my Kung Pao Chicken fix ! They will burn the chili peppers in the hot oil first the way I like it on my request, which I always do ! It makes the dish taste so much better than just having the dry red chili tossed in later. You get a good sized order and it is PDG !(pretty darn good).

Can’t say I find anything crazy unique or creative about the food here. But for the prices and portions, I can’t complain and will definitely be back. A friend and I came here and we got the Sweet and Sour Chicken($ 10) and the Fried String Beans($ 9). Food came fast plus we had enough for each of us to take a little bit home. Truly a bang for your buck. Would’ve given this place 4 stars but docking a star of the service. I had the flag the waiter down for water several times. Plus, we asked the wait service for an extra bag and we never got one. AND fortune cookies never came with the check. We had to go to the front desk and ask. Otherwise, good experience.

I find it hard that people say this place is authentic. Being Chinese and having gone to restaurants in Chinatown SF, Chinatown LA, San Gabriel, Rowland Heights, you name it – this place isn’t remotely authentic or good. That said, I wasn’t looking for something authentic really – just something good. I ordered the Mongolian Beef and Lemon Chicken. There were trace amounts of chicken and most of it was batter. There was no detectable hint of lemon in the«lemon» glaze. The Mongolian Beef, likewise, wasn’t very good. It was salty yet unflavorful. There was a good amount of beef on the plate but most of the pieces were small scraps. I felt I would need a spoon to scoop it up, rather than being able to pick up a satisfying piece up with my chop sticks. After a few minutes tonight, we decided to not continue eating, pack up, and went somewhere else.

Chef Yu should be called Chef You, where you cook your own food, because even I could’ve cooked a better meal than what I had here. What’s even worse is the price. It’s more expensive than other Hunan restaurants around San Jose and the taste is mediocre at best. We had the green beans with pork, fish filet, walnut shrimp, tofu, and dan dan noodles but wish we had a couple McChickens and large fries from Mickey D’s instead. Two stars instead of one because the location on Murphy Ave was nice.

My wife really likes this place and we come here once in a while for something spicy. We usually come here around 9. Its fairly empty then. We always start with either the spicy noodle or spicy gluten. My wife has her favorite dish, I’m not sure of the english name, and I try different thing like the large intestines. The food is really good and not as spicy as it seems. The prices are not too cheap but worth it. The variety of southern chinese food is pretty good including shanghai, hunan and sichuan. The portions are pretty big for the price and the service is quite good as well.
