I’m guessing that since I: 1. Can speak a few phrases in Korean and Japanese, and apparently have a good accent and learn with a quickness, 2. Know more Tagalog than Rod, Maritess and Oliver put together, 3. Eat Asian food as much as I possibly can and more than anything else, and 4. Love Asian candies and desserts, I have a little Asian fetish of my own. So I’m very thankful to H&J, for bringing some relief to my ‘hood. They make bubble tea, have dim sum, offer mochi, both ice cream and otherwise, have green tea and lychee ice cream, and a range of Asian snacks, cookies and candies. They also have a small selection of jewelry, Sanrio-type trinkets, gifts and plants, such as money trees. There’s a few small tables and they sell newspapers outside. I am a bubble tea snob! H&J’s tea is not as good as, say, Ten Ren, but it is a lot better than other teas I’ve tasted. The tapioca pearls are cooked just right. Their mochi selection leaves a bit to be desired, but will do in a pinch. The array of snacks and candy is plentiful and has me staring in delight at times. The pork buns are tasty! The guy who works there is really nice and attentive. He works there with his mother, which is really cute. I give this place 4 stars just for surviving in a mostly Latino neighborhood and for satisying my cravings when I don’t want to go into the city. Xie-xie!!!
