Cute idea, and a style of restaurant that the neighborhood totally needs, but execution is a bit off the mark. The pork dumplings always taste a bit too much of Chinese Five Spice, and always come out looking a little under cooked for my liking(bright pink pork is off putting to me). The shrimp and chicken dumplings are usually very appealing, but at times their texture can feel a bit off. Didn’t care for steamed greens, or even any of the rice dishes we have tried here. To echo early comments, it is all a bit bland. The baos were tasty, but fatty, and very small. I also feel like for the price, you could do a little better.

We love this place. Our favorite is veggie dumplings and veggie soup. Their edamame is yummi and scallion pancakes are really good as well. We never had a bad experience here. Service, food is great. They take CASHONLY.

A grade for food. C for service. I’ll start off by saying that I’ve never witnessed(or my nose has never witnessed?) the garbage smell of which other reviewers complain. Then continue on to say the food is very good– I highly recommend the fried rice, and bao buns. Also I’m full on addicted to the garlicky cucumber salad. However don’t come in, expecting a friendly smile. The lady at the till must be having a permanent bad time in life. At first I thought it was me but every customer I’ve see her interact with is the same. I work in retail and I get having off days but yikes! That being said she never messes up orders or charges incorrectly or anything like that she just really seems to hate dealing with people. I think of her as the Basil Fawlty of dumpling houses.

Not too shabby! Be warned, cash only! So make sure you go to an ATM beforehand. But pretty yummy for a quick/easy meal, and well, if you like dumplings. I’d stay away from their rice dishes and stick only to the dumplings. Rice dishes are bland. Better to take out and eat at home, but you’re welcome to go there in your pajamas and sit and eat, if you feel so inclined(not that I would every do anything like that!) :) But overall, a nice and welcome addition to Sunnyside! Glad they are here!

First thing is do not expect any service at this place because its a self service place and you dont have to leave tips. But if you are generous the tipping jar is available on the cashier. I have seen many comment on Unilocal about the dumpling and disturbing smell of the place. I have been come to this place so many times and i have not seen any of those complaint. The place is small true, yet its very clean. Spoon, fork are made out of plastic and bamboo chopstick And most of the fried and steam dumpling served on styrofoam plate which is acceptable. My favorite dish in here are the fried rice and melt in your mouth noodle soup. I am their regular customer and so far i have very satisfied with everything they serve. I like this place

My boyfriend and I ordered the braised beef noodle soup and the pork and chives dumpling noodle soup. Both soups came with Chinese vegetables and scallions. The noodles and the dumplings seemed fresh. The beef did not melt in my mouth and the soup was on the bland side.

Red flag: this place lowkey smelled like garbage/something rotten when I first walked in. I saw the other review warning people to not get the steamed dumplings but I had to see it for myself since steamed dumplings are a standard. Ordered 1 steamed pork & chive dumpling and 1 pan fried chicken/shrimp/cilantro. The price is decent at $ 3.50 for 5 dumplings. Turns out I should’ve listened to the reviewer as the steamed dumpling skin was way too thick and the filling was a tasteless ball of mush. Textures were unpleasant. The pan fried was better, although it seemed like it was deep fried more so than pan fried, so it was super crispy/greasy. Also, the filling relied on too much meat paste which isn’t necessarily«bad», but not what I expected. This place just isolated the dumplings you get at Chinese take out and added more filling choices, but don’t be fooled as it’s just the same quality and taste. Heck, I might even prefer the steamed dumplings I get from take out.

I’m a dumpling man, and these are way up there on my all time list, if not at the top! Fresh, stuffed tasty… And the scallion pancakes are awesome also, everything was super fresh, very inexpensive. I’ll definitely be back, over & over again!

Let me start off by saying that I am not a huge dumpling fan so this review may be a bit harsh. My friend suggested this place as she heard 2 good reviews. We shared 1 order as the portion is pretty large. We ordered soup with their house-made noodles and vegetable dumplings. It was served altogether in a 32 oz plastic container. It lacked flavor and too much dough was used for the dumpling(we were advised to get fried dumpling instead of steamed for that purpose — we still opted for steamed). Three of us ate it and all 3 got an upset stomach so with that said, I won’t go back. Best of luck to you…

I love dumplings so I was excited to see a new place open just a couple of blocks away from where I live. Finally after trying it, I might refer to it as «Things & More Things». The meal I split with another person was — 2 dumpling types(chicken/shrimp/cilantro and pork/chives), sesame noodles with peanut sauce, and 2 bao types(melt in your mouth pork belly and sliced braised beef). The dumplings were pretty different than I’ve had before. They were in thin wrappers and stuffed pretty full. I preferred the chicken over pork chives, but overall were just okay. The bao was nicely prepared and just okay also. I prefer whole buns with filling over their taco style buns. I am a sesame noodle fanatic and was disappointed to find theirs were NOTGOODATALL. Weird gray slimy noodles with a tiny container of peanut sauce you are to pour over. Overall the food was basic, lacking its own uniqueness. For dessert we tried mochi ice cream, mango and strawberry flavors. My first try of this and I liked it(enjoyed strawberry over mango), but not worth $ 1 each for an after dinner mint — they were pretty small. I would maybe go back to try the noodle soup and if I was in the mood for average dumplings locally.

The concept is better than the execution at this point. The menu size is just right, going a bit beyond dumplings with a variety of low-priced, modular offerings. They’re friendly and fast. The hot oil wontons were a must-skip. They were more salty than spicy and the filling was a one-dimensional pork flavor. The garlicky cucumber salad needed a bit more kick, even for its presumed role as a healthy counterpoint to meat. I like the pork with napa dumplings.

I had not had a chance to try this place since it opened, a couple of times I went and they were out of dumplings or it was way too packed. It’s been a little less crowded now that it’s summer and my experience was so good I returned a second night in a row. So far I’ve only had the dumplings. The dumplings are dense and flavor packed but not overly doughy, though not quite as light and fluffy as one might associate with a top Flushing or Chinatown dumpling place. However they are on the larger side and very reasonably priced for the freshness. I have tried the four meat flavored offerings, and done 2 fried and 2 steamed. The spicy beef and kimchi had the thickest dough but I don’t know if that’s how they are always made or if it was only that batch. I am happy with this great addition to the neighborhood! The fall will be a great time to review the soups.

Dumplings & Things is not your typical Chinese restaurant. It is modern, clean, seems healthy without the high price tag. The dumplings and wonton are delicious and the noodle tastes fresh and handmade, not the packaged kind. The staff is super nice. The nice lady at the front desk brought out my foods to my table multiple times. My favorite are the Shrimp and Chicken Dumplings with Cilantro, the Wonton Soup, and the Pork Belly Noodle Soup. Delicious!

Dumplings and Things is Sunnyside’s newest fast food restaurant serving asian noodles, rice dishes, dumplings, and baos. Perfect for reasonably priced solid portion dinners on the commute home. I am a fan of their ‘things’ more than their dumplings. + Location — Prime spot 30 second walk south on 46th st. from the subway station. + Pork belly noodle soup. The broth is excellent and rich, and the pork belly generous and fatty, but the texture of the noodles was uncomfortably melt-in-your mouth soft, perhaps overcooked or simply low quality. Still worth it for the price! + House fried rice with Chinese sausage — 4 words– Delicious, but needs kimchi.(yes I know it’s not a Korean restaurant) And soup would be nice. + Sliced braised beef boa — Only place in Sunnyside that serves bao. + No tip. + Quick service(off-peak times). — Limited seating indoors — Sometimes have to take to-go because the seats are filled. Many people sitting on their phones waiting for their to-go orders. + Slow service(peak times) — Waited 15 mins. for baos and dumplings once at 7pm. — Cash only — tradeoff for low prices.

I came with my favorite lunch buddy(since he loves food as much as I do) to try this new addition to the neighborhood. The place is small but big enough for what they serve. They have wooden tables with different types of sauces on them. This place it’s casual but not a hole in the wall. We decided to start with two orders of dumplings. The pork/chives and chicken/shrimp /cilantro both pan fried. Both were good but I really enjoyed the chicken, shrimp & cilantro more. The flavor was right on point. Let me start by saying I never had a bao before so I don’t have much to compare it to but I was eager to try my first one. We went with the melt in your mouth pork belly and braised beef baos. The pork belly was good but the braised beef was delicious. I loved the beef and I could have eaten a whole plate of that. I wish they had a dish of braised beef over rice because I think that would be amazing.

My husband told me about this place opening up in Sunnyside and was quite excited when he brought me here for a quick lunch. However, I was not impressed with their dumplings. Their dumplings were overstuffed with weird processed meat and they definitely look frozen rather than handmade. Their dumplings also don’t have any flavor. I ordered the dumpling noodle soup and the noodles they used were tasteless and somewhat overcooked. The broth was ok and not too oily but sadly, that was probably the best part of the whole meal. Surprisingly, there was a lot of seating for a hole-in-a-wall type of place. Overall, I think their dumplings are quite sub-par and it’s quite a shame because there are no places that make authentic dumplings in the area.

First impression: very modern and clean. It felt like an upscale authentic Chinese restaurant. Don’t be fooled there is no waiter service instead you order you food and pick it up when its done. You can take it home to eat or eat at the restaurant which they have decent amount of table and chairs. I saw the prices and they were a little high compare to Flushing foods. They also charge tax on your order which is a little surprising to me only because most Chinese restaurant in Flushing don’t. Either way this is Sunnyside so I wasn’t totally surprised. I ordered only one item because I read from Unilocalers that their melt in your mouth pork belly bao is good. I said to myself let me see if they live up to the hype. I was skeptical at first since it was only two for 3.50(excluding tax). I kept saying to myself that this bao better be worth 4 bucks. Once I arrived at my friend’s house I was surprised at the size. It was small and it came with one piece of pork belly. It also had cucumber and peanuts(?) on top. The take out box came with a watery sauce that taste sweet and salty. I tried it first without the sauce and I was in love with it. The pork belly was a chewy, taste was very well balance, and it wasn’t as saucy as most pork belly buns from Japanese restaurants. I didn’t mind saucy or not saucy as long as my mouth agrees this is some bomb a** pork belly bun/bao. I tried it with the sauce this time and I loved it too but it was too watery. I tried to dip my bun in the sauce instead of pouring it and it works better and less messy. Over all: The bao was surprisingly good but the price for two is too pricey. If I am in the neighborhood then I will try their noodles and dumplings. They look authentic enough but we shall see once I get to taste it.

Very impressed! Been there twice already and both times were delicious. First time we ordered the pork & chive dumplings fried(awesome!), chicken cilantro dumplings steamed(good, would have been better fried), scallion pancakes(best I’ve ever had!) and the pork belly buns(delicious, could use some sauce). We went on opening day and still only waited 15 mins. Also had a tasty jasmine iced tea. Second time there tried the noodle soups. Husband had the dumpling soup(noodles and 5 dumplings) which he found very filling! I had the braised beef noodle soup and it was very tasty, added some hot sauce and it was perfect. Really haven’t had anything we did not like! Staff is friendly and will explain menu if you would like. Welcome to the neighborhood!

There was a mass exodus that went straight from the evening 7 train to this restaurant! Glad to see them doing so well in less than one week of being open. First of all, I’m glad that there is finally a decent place to get Chinese food in Sunnyside, and the prices are really perfect. They offer a very good selection in their menu, and the ambience is just right for a noodle shop — not too fancy and not hole in the wall. I had the pork and cabbage dumpling, and it was pretty good. As other reviewers said, these are not dumplings to blow your mind, but they are really great for the price — plenty of meat in them! I also got the melt in your mouth pork belly noodle soup, but the noodles were way too soft and soggy by the time I got home. I was hoping I could just grab noodles after work to bring home, but next time I’ll get noodles to stay. I thought the best parts of the meal were the sauce and broth. I look forward to trying the bao. Also, as everyone said the service was very polite, quick and organized. So glad this is in the neighborhood!

Finally! A dumpling place in Sunnyside! When we arrived here we ordered quickly. This place accepts cash for now. The menu features rice platters(pork, beef, chicken, and shrimp), dumplings, baos, and sides. A small place located near the 7 train, and across the street from Rite Aid, it makes for a prime location for a successful business. Even though the décor looks simple, the wooden tables, stools for chairs, and a chalk board menu give the place intimacy. This place has potential to make a lasting positive impression in Sunnyside.
