The sushi was fine to good, sake cocktail was definitely a highlight. Service was incredibly slow– took over 2 hours to get 2 appetizers and 4 rolls of sushi. Waitress didn’t know answers to questions then never came back with the answers. Be sure to carefully examine your dish as it is brought out, on a slow day our waitress brought us another table’s order. At least the outdoor patio is nice when it’s warm out.

Great sushi, friendliest staff I’ve encountered in a while. Hibachi better than area restaurants. Good for groups

Love this place. Reminds me of the hibachi places around San Francisco. Goten’s hibachi experience is in the same ball park. Only had a little of the sushi, which was very good. Definitely recommend.

My first time in town, and the food was awful. It was too Americanized and did not taste like a authentic Japanese meal. The flavor was drenched with soy sauce and that was all I tasted in every bit of my filet mignon, chicken and noodles. The Japanese lady in the front desk was also unpleasant and told my friends and I to «move it» in a harsh way when guests were leaving. A pleasant«excuse me guys» or «pardon» would have been more acceptable. Overall, awful experience

Closest thing I have come to to California sushi. The rolls are normal west coast sizes relative to price and the rolls are yummy. This is my sushi go to place.

Awesome. I’ve had hibachi twice, this was my first time at the sushi bar. Shout out to Brian, he’s the coolest sushi bar chef I’ve ever sat with. He’s mid 20s and speaks perfect English – makes it 1000x easier to ask about the rolls and fish. Second, he’s super personable, knows all about their fish and ingredients, and gave great advice relative to my tastes. Ordered the signature Spicy Tuna Toll, eel nigiri, and Alaskan hand roll. The signature roll included their unique milk-based lightly fried tofu, small side salad with ginger dressing, and miso soup. The milk curd was amazing – softer/creamier than typical tofu, which made the light tempura crunch even better. 1.5“X1.5″ cube sitting in a light soy broth with scallion so. Stunning, might have to order extra next time. Side salad and miso soup were pretty standard – nothing to write home about but hit the spot. The eel nigiri was spot on – large portions of warmly cooked eel, draped over a bed of rice and bound with a thin band of seaweed. Two pieces, could have had more. The spicy tuna roll was the best take I’ve had on a spicy tuna roll. Tuna, onions, avocado wrapped in seaweed and rice, lightly tempura fried, and topped with a variety of «fusion» sauces and scallions. I generally don’t do the fancy fusion rolls, but this was great, really satisfied the urge for something crispy and unique. The Alaskan hand roll was solid, with a caveat. It was salmon, avocado, and cream cheese. Always thought Alaskan roll was cucumber instead of cream cheese? But oh well, even though I’m not a fan of cream cheese in sushi, it was served to me so I figured to try it. As good as any other hand roll, portions were split well. Is that all? I guess so. So much yet to try, I’ll be back soon.

My husband and I went here a few months back on a date, we had driven by many times and were excited to finally try it. We walked in, it looked busy but since we were there for sushi and not hibachi, they seated us immediately! Swell. We took off our coats and sat down, very hungry. Waited a few minutes, I put my coat back on because it was freezing! Finally after 15 – 20 minutes of waiting, hungry and cold. A waiter comes over and says, «Have you been here for long? Nobody told me someone was sitting here so I didn’t see you.» Great. My husband is allergic to shell fish, so that makes our choices limited anywhere we get sushi, but the options we had to choose from here seemed especially limited. We started our with a spicy salmon roll and a spicy tuna roll… They were okay. Not bad, but boring in taste and presentation. Still hungry we decided to order a special roll, and went for the Spicy Tuna Roll — the goten signature roll. After awhile the waiter came back with a plate identical to our first order of spicy tuna– assembled just as boringly, only 6 pieces(typically the special rolls come with more, which is why they can charge $ 4 more than the regular rolls). This special roll was supposed to be fried with tempura. The waiter said that they use the same oil that they fry shellfish to fry the special rolls… So they just gave it to us without the tempura. He said it was exactly the same, just without the tempura. We were shocked that they just went ahead and made it and decided for us that we would still want that roll. We were surprised they didn’t try to make it look special at all. We were surprised to taste it and confirm it was the exact same roll we had just had, but that it would cost $ 4 more. We told the waiter that it was literally the same as our first roll. We had already eaten it though and asked for the check because we were done with them, but still hungry and wanted to move on. We expected that they might give the last roll to us free because it was just ridiculous… But instead the waiter told us– as of he were doing us a big favor– that he was going to only charge us the price of a regular roll. That was the least they could have done, I’m glad they did of course, but it was kind of a pathetic way to make up for it. So, its not disgusting by any means, but boring, overpriced for what you get, and bad service. We won’t be back.

For our first visit, on New Years Eve, we sat at the sushi bar for dinner — and stayed for almost three hours! Wonderful sushi, very friendly service, and a nice atmosphere. The scallop nigiri is absolutely out of this world. Finally we have found a great local sushi restaurant in the area. The only downside was that our part of the restaurant was quite cold. Could have been because so many people were coming though the front door on the evening for a hibachi dinner.

How disappointing. We made reservations for Sunday on Friday for my nieces 10 year old birthday. We asked if it was too early and they laughed at us(saying they already had tables booked). We get there, our reservation was for 6:00, we had 10 of 12 and they wouldn’t seat us(ok policy, that’s fine). At 6:05 the last 2 arrived. They told us we were all set for our table for 8, our reservation was for 12. Not 8(called 3 times about this). So someone with a reservation for 6:30 sits before us … And they scramble(?) for us. Long story short. Took 45 minutes(then I had to say something. I got a apology and no help) just to get just our drinks. then the 2 rooms were so cold everyone at every table had their coats on. On top of that our orders were wrong(I was told we had a new waitress and they didn’t know it would be so busy… hmmm …see above to them laughing at is for making a reservation on Friday for Sunday and laughing at us for asking if it was too early to do so) and the hibachi chef made everything at different times so some people were done 15 – 25 minutes before others and part of meals were done before the rest of the meals(for instance someone got shrimp and scallops, scallops came maybe 20 minutes minimum before the shrimp). Then when the meals were so disjointed someone asked for extra rice because her scallops came 20 min before her shrimp they then charged her $ 2.50 for it! Let me tell you we are locals and will never be back. By the way we didn’t even want to go because friends of ours good violent food poisoning from this place less then a year ago. On top of it all an automatic 20% tip, yup why would they try to work hard? I could just keep going!

Always a great time here. We love the food so much that we drive 40 min. to Goten even though we have a Japanese Steak House nearby! The food is excellent & you get a lot of food for the price! Great deal!!!

Best place for sushi in the Valley I’ve found so far. Kind of odd location but beautiful building and entryway. Elegant, modern, and traditional Japanese décor. Outdoor patio. We sat at the sushi bar for dinner and ordered 2 rolls, and 1 seafood pancake. Before the meal we were presented with a chef’s special tempura egg custard in a light soy broth with scallion — nice touch. We weren’t aware, but we also each got miso soup and a house salad with a nice beet dressing. The rolls were fresh and delicious, beautifully prepared. The seafood pancake was excellent, one of the better asian-style pancakes I’ve had. Service was very good and was an over-all pampered experience. Price seemed right considering the size of the rolls, and the extras from the chef. Will definitely be returning!

Waitress was not too friendly. Hibachi was bland, and not too«entertaining» as you would expect it to be. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and we asked if they could do something special… the waitress walked out with the ice cream in an orange and a candle and said HBD and walked away. I don’t mind paying extra for good food but this was not worth it.

I used to always go for there hibachi dinners. If we go with a group we usually sit and get hibachi style dinners. The chief’s put on a good show. But the sushi is what we love there. We always get sushi when we go. It is the best sushi in the area. If you go for sushi and order 2 of the normal rolls on the menu. They will give you milk tofu app, salad with a great raspberry dressing, and a soup. I think you need to order over $ 20 in sushi but if you do they give you app, salad, and soup. It is a nice upgrade. If you are in the area and like sushi stop in. The hibachi is great also.

If I could eat milk tofu all day, I would. Goten got me addicted. However, they also have great sashimi here so I can’t skip that either. It’s the best place for sushi around the Pioneer Valley, in my opinion. Remember you get what you pay for, and Goten may be more expensive than most but I’d rather not waste my money on only mediocre sushi at other places. Service may be slow, because the place isn’t huge but it’s perfect for when you’re with a small group and can get a table on the quiet site. I’m not a big fan of hibachi, but with a large group you can be entertained on that side.

I love being surprised – and what is a better surprise than a lovely dinner? This place is in the middle of nowhere but worth the drive if you happen to be in the area. We were seated immediately at one of the hibachi tables and awaited the show. Dinner comes with soup(brothy with mushrooms and scallions), salad(homemade ginger dressing), shrimp appetizer(I just don’t have the coordination to catch it in my mouth!), the main course(chicken for us, veggies, noodles and a cup of white rice) and dessert(yay for ice cream!). All of the above for $ 16 is a great deal, especially when prepared right in front of you! The only thing we didn’t care for was that it was a bit too salty for our taste, but it wasn’t overpowering. We had a great evening out!

I’ve been here a few times and every time I’ve gone each experience exceeds the other. The staff was incredibly friendly. We were greeted right as we walked in and sat in front of the sushi chef. Bryan is amazing. I’m just blown away by his craftsmanship and how much passion he puts into each plating. I work in a sushi restaurant in Boston and I can’t even say our sushi looks half as nice as these. The quality of the fish was amazing. Even better than some that I’ve had in the city. I’ve returned back every time I’m in the area. They have a great menu and lots of delicious cocktails, but you really can’t go with a nice cold Japanese beer with your meal. Haven’t tried the hibachi but from the looks of people coming and going it definitely on my to do list.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant of all time! We drive 50 mins to get here! Service is always great. It helps that they speak great English. Cooks put on a great show. The only thing. Don’t like is the cabbage but that is a personal preference. Sushi is always great and fresh. If you compare this to standard family restaurants, your price may be higher. But if you compare to other Japanese restaurants, then the price is right on. Scallops, Lobster and Steak is what I had last night and it did not disappoint! Pure awesomeness!

Where can you find a Japanese Teppanyaki(Hibachi) house in the middle of nowhere??? Sunderland, MA of course. While driving down 116, you will spot this place and think… why is this here? Then you stop and realize that someone has made the effort to open a pretty darn good Hibachi restaurant out here for some reason. Very good food. Highly recommended. Try it…

mmmm Sashimi melts in your mouth. Feels good, yo. Got some hibachi as well. Shrimp + Filet Mignon plus noodles and random vegetables. Not bad. Shrimp was a little over cooked but the filet was just right. Waitress was nice, but a bit slow, which can be overlooked since it was packed on Valentine’s day. She gave a good recommendation for local beer!(BBC)

I didn’t know what hibachi was. until I got here and was like«OH I HADTHISBEFORE! In Japan!» There was no wait when I got to the restaurant, my 3 friends and I were seated quickly with this other couple so there were actually 2 empty seats next to me, which was nice since I got to put my coat there. I got the hibachi sirloin steak $ 19 which comes with soup… salad…3 pieces shrimp, .the steak, rice and noodles. oh and ice cream!(either rainbow sherbert, ginger, chocolate or something else I forgot) After tip + tax it was $ 24 for me. Okay, so it was pretty packed, on a saturday. I came around 8pm. The soup was very salty. tasted like chicken noodle soup/my friend thought it tasted like onion soup. The salad, I didn’t like so much, tasted like regular american salad. The shrimp was good! They cooked the shrimp and steak right in front of you! I thought the flames were gonna burn me! I definitely said«medium rare» but i think he just heard«mediium». BUT the service was very good, the servers /chef is soo nice. The noodles, taste like my dining hall noodles. haha, no offense. THe ice cream was nice. I love chocolate… would have preferred green tea if that was a choice. Swore it was on the menu when I checked online! There were 5 yes, FIVE birthdays. in one hour, even the couple next to us was celebrating her birthday. That’s about a birthday at every table. You get a free cap for your birthday. I guess this place is good, if you have never tried real hibachi in Japan, but I did, and it was with Kobe beef so. that’s a tough standard to match up to. This is like… hibachi in Taiwan that I tried. It’s just EH, nothing outta the ordinary. I don’t think I’ll return for the hibachi, but maybe the sushi, I didn’t get to try that yet.
