Schafer’s Bar & Grill

Let’s just say «bar rescue» didn’t rescue them. The food is good, but service has gone waaaay down within the last few years. I used to go all the time when I was 21 – 22 and was known by name and always had a great time, but recently it’s been a lot worse.
I recommend earlier in the day for a quick drink and some food.

I decided to have my Wife’s birthday party here since we had eaten here a few time and the food was really good. Even if you’re not eating they have a large bar and games to play like Skee Ball, Darts, Golden Tee etc. then dancing later at night. We reserved the back room, got our own bartender and they even put up Happy Birthday sign for my wife. They did all this just from me emailing in a request to save a table. Thanks Schafer’s!

I was across the street at the Honda dealership waiting for my car. Who knew an oil change would take an HOUR! So my husband and picked me up for dinner. By recommendation from the guy an the service department (see review for him) he said that Schaffers was a good go to spot for a good meal so we thought would give it a shot!
First impression, was a bit divey so naturally I loved it! We were there on a Wednesday night so the place wasn’t poppin’ but there were maybe 15 customers. We were served by Dolly. She was GREAT!!! I am pretty harsh when it comes to customer service, and she was on her A game! She answered all my billion questions about the beer, food, nightlife etc., with a smile. Very personable. I ordered the BLT because she told me their bacon was on point, which it is! Thick cut, butcher quality! Next time I may just order a plate of bacon :) this place also offers tater tots, BONUS! My husband just got an appetizer, jalapeño poppers which were stuffed, rolled in bread crumbs, then fried. Super good!
There was a man that kept coming out of the kitchen area talking to patrons, clearly this is a place with regulars. He seemed very friendly as well. They offer two bars and about 15 – 20 beers on tap. All walks of life at this place from old granny’s to bikers to youngins’! I would love to come back on the weekend as they have a dance floor, pool and skee ball.
Overall, I was very impressed with the service and the quality of food for a bar. You can tell that this isn’t a place where they get everything frozen from a bag and dump it in the fryer. The food did take a bit longer to come out, but I am willing to wait for a better quality meal! If the rest of the staff is like Dolly, then this may be my new favorite place to hang out. :)

The employees are out right hostile to people. I watched the cook or I’m guessing was the cook start a fight with a customer, the security through out the customer, when I went to tell the security that it was the cook who started the fight, I was told to leave and go F myself. I ask to speak to his manager, the manager of the security, Mike, spoke with me outside. When I told him of how I saw their employee start a fight with customers and his security guard told me to F myself. Mike told me to go F myself too, that how his security operation work and I didn’t have to come back if I didn’t like it. I think I’m going to take Mr. Mike advice and take my money elsewhere.

This is the best dive bar around. If you’re looking for a low key hang out, cheap drinks, average crowd and greasy food this is it! I love the casual atmosphere– all types of people, such a wide range of music and two separate areas with different vibes. You can hang out in the middle of the loud action and dance OR step on over to the other side for large tables, it’s own bar and skee ball where you can actually sit down see peoples faces and have a conversation without screaming.
The Service is usually good, especially if you are able to find a table and actually sit down with a waitress. The tables are wobbly and the chairs are ripped and wobbly as well, but I’m not there for the fancy décor. The bouncers are not friendly, but I don’t consider that a bad thing as they are there to protect us. The garlic cheese fries are the bomb!
Now, if you are looking for some high-​class establishment then just keep walking. We don’t want your kind here. These are good folks, just looking to have a good time!

First time — great breakfast — perfectly cooked eggs — large portions — Bloody Mary bar! Fun! Bar atmosphere.

This is a pretty typical bar, verging on divey. If that’s what you are in the mood for its great. Their burgers are awesome, the fish and chips leaves a bit too be desired but it’s worth a visit. Saturday nights get pretty busy, and if you are in there late the crowd can get shady, buy the staff is really nice and its an enjoyable experience.

I was buzzed before I even got here (don’t worry, I didn’t drive) so the visit was fast and okay.
Downsides: gets suuuper packed, there are insistent creepy guys, and the prices are steep.
So… Maybe hit up this place if you’re rich, want to give out your number a lot, and aren’t claustrophobic.

Gotta get the word out about this place because it’s awesome! We were just in town for a couple of nights for a concert and found a great little hotel in Sumner. We did a little research and Unilocaled to discover some of the local favorites. We found Schafer’s on the list and after reading a little about it, knew it was a place we wanted to try. The best part is, it did not disappoint!!! We were looking for a fun place with a youthful crowd and we found it at Schafer’s. They had great bartenders who were friendly and an awesome little dance floor with a fun DJ spinning a decent combination of old and new beats. We also got to meet the owner who was friendly, charismatic and chatted with us for a few minutes before moving to other guests of his fun establishment. He also gave us some great coffee mugs as we were leaving which we can’t wait to use! Schafer’s is a must if you are looking for friendly service, good vibes and a fun atmosphere. We’ll be back for concerts in the area and Schafer’s will be a permanent stop on our way through.

At 10:45 PM the bar and dance floor are full. The food, so far, is great (we have had the pretzels and fries) but, unfortunately the drinks are on the weaker side. Two long islands both came out similar to a jack in the box iced tea. Stick with beer in this joint.

So after reading the reviews on this place I’m a bit baffled… I honestly had a kick ass time here the other night. I’m from a sweet beach town in oceanside ca and since moving up here I haven’t really fit in to the wa scene. But then I found this gem called Schafers. First off I walked in to them playing Metallica ummm fuck yes already a great start. Bonous on the good looking female bartenders and I don’t even dig the ladies but hey they were nice and got me a pretty stiff 4 finger whiskey. I do recommend that they carry sugar free products for ppl that are diabetic but other than that no complaints. Had a great time dancing my butt off while taking back a few rounds. Super hot biker dudes totally my kinda bar… Sorry for the people with a bad experience but I would try again
Bouncers aren’t meant to be buddies they’re employed to protect the establishment patrons and employees … So don’t get mad if they think your causing a scene

Friends told me not to go here but I went anyway. The food was really expensive for bar grub, and they want 16 bucks for a non coors light pitcher. The service was good though. It was fun until one moment that brought everything to a screeching halt. I was sober enough to operate heavy machinery at this point, so I know I wasnt acting like an ass. A security guard’s wife (allegedly) tried to dance on me and he threatened to break my jaw. I didn’t know that it was his wife so I went up to him and apologized, but he threatened me again, saying «you better get out of my face before I get more angry. «That really ruined the night, and it’s no secret the security here is on some kind of pseudo — mafia like power trip. I recommend this bar to nobody. Do not go to schafers because you will get pushed around by Fred durst wannabes for dancing the wrong way. Go to a good bar instead.

I’ve been here at least ten times and I’ve always had the same experience. The security guards are very very rude to just about everyone. They operate with that I’m cooler than you and can beat you up attitude. As far as drinks go, their cheap and stiff but good luck getting one in less than 20 minutes.
Essentially this place is ruined because of the staff. Poor management and lack of training leaves the employees free to do as they please. The owner really needs to take more pride in running his establishment.

I’ve been here twice now. The service is great, the steak is amazing (and inexpensive) and the chicken wings are awesome. Love this place. My only criticism is the décor, but that may be what they are going for

Was there on the weekends… small crowd. Mean drunks blocking the entry into the bar smoking. Unfriendly wait staff. Commotion going on in the parking lot.
I would avoid!

We chose this based on Unilocal!reviews and are glad we did. The waitress was right on about the food recommendation and the service was good for a Tuesday night.

After shopping nearby we were hungry and based on the Unilocal reviews we decided to try this place. I normally wait to try a place a couple of times before reviewing but we don’t get down to Sumner all that often. The atmosphere is pretty typical bar. Good amount of seating and milling around space. The staff was quick and friendly and they have a lot of great beers on tap. We had the clams and nachos and they were both very good. Even thought the food is good, this is a bar first and foremost. Perhaps my opinion is colored by the fact it was a Friday night but the atmosphere was very bar-​ey. This isn’t a bad thing just something to be aware of. The regulars were so nice and welcoming to us we had a great time chatting with them and the owners. The worst part of the evening was knowing we probably wouldn’t make it back anytime soon.

It is really hard to find good bar food that does not originate from a box. I just want good food, that someone put their time into, and this place nailed it. They actually had the best prime rib that I had ever had, seriously, I don’t really know what it was about it, but it was awesome; their red potato’s with garlic butter were absolutely fantastic too…
The salad was ok, it needs something though, something to make it different than everyone else.
I actually met the owners while eating breakfast in Tacoma, and so I told them that I’d try their place, and I’m so glad that we did.
Unless you’re a local, you may not know where this is, but if you want to get away, and have a laid back place to relax, and eat really good food, then this is the place to go!
I CAN’T wait to go back and try their peanut butter burger, the secret ingredient to White castle burgers is actually peanut butter, and so I’m sure their peanut butter burger is awesome.
Hubby ate the parrott burger, and he really liked it.
I also tried fireball whiskey, and that stuff was incredible!
We will return for sure, hope to catch up with the owners, and chat again soon.

The food was terrific and the service was friendly but a little slow. My husband and I split the PBB and the Albert Special. Tons of food!
We will definitely be going back to check out the skeeball league they have!!! They also have dart boards, pool tables, and best of all — a shuffle board table!!!

Went here to meet up with some friends. Had No idea that there was even a bar in this area. Come to find out it was originally a café called Kerbys. Anyways I had a lot of fun here. I didn’t get to try any of the food, but everything I saw looked real good. The drinks were good, the bar tender was very good.
The music was the norm, but it was fun. The DJ played a lot of rock, which was a lot better then half the bars I’ve ever been to. So not a big hip hop or techno scene. I would recommend if you don’t like rock, wait till way later and the DJ will play more old school hip hop, you know 69 boyz Tootsie Roll, that kind of music. They have a dance floor which is a good size.
So if your near this area I would go check it out.
