A semi dive for dining room and they just remodeled– but get over this– get the burrito– they are the size of little babies. This place is frequented by fireman from all around for a late night meal. Just some place you have to got to once in a while.

A $ 5 burrito the size of your head. And yes, it’s an incredible burrito. El Faro is great because they’re open very late, and use quality, authentic ingredients. Plenty of indoor seating, a typical dive. This would be my go-to Mexican place if it weren’t so out of the way, and in a so-so neighborhood. The risk is worth the reward. The reward being an incredible burrito. Where else are you going to go when you’re craving a huge burrito at 12AM? Just make sure your drive responsibly.

Soooooo, maybe I ordered the wrong burrito. But the one I had wasn’t even as big as mynhand, let alone as big as my head as I’ve heard it was. The steak meat is nothing to write home about & it was way more tortilla than meat. I will say they don’t skimp on the sour cream though & I LOVE sour cream. I can do without this place though.

We look forward to our trips to el faro. They always give u a nice size quality meal for the price. The restaurant is pretty run down and could use a makeover but the food has always been on point up until the last 2 times we came here. I have found the quality has gone down hill. They still give you an insane amount of meat in the overstuffed burritos but tge steak has been very gritty on our last 2 visits. The milenesa was good but just not what it used to be. It seemed smaller. My mother in law liked the chicken so if we come back I may have to try that next time. Side note my daughter said the bathroom was disgusting and made her gag going in there.

Don’t let its appearance fool you. This is the true home of the«GIANT» burrito. And i mean GIANT !! Have sampled everything on the menu over the years and really have not had a bad experience. They recently raised burrito prices from $ 5 to $ 5.50 and taco prices from $ 1.50 to $ 1.65. Still cheaper than most places. Most of their business is carry out and the lines can be long at times. Theres adequate seating inside but nothing fancy here. Just good food. And the fact that they make their tacos with 2 shells is a big plus. Not positive about this but I dont think they offer the flour or corn tortilla option. Of course i prefer flour so have never asked. The only thing that keeps me from giving this place 5 stars is the parking or lack of I should say. Pay attention to the posted signs and do not park on north side of the street !!!

I consider myself the queen of the taco… and these tacos are INCREDIBLE! Cheap, loaded with MEAT(not junk like lettuce and onions), HOT and QUICK! Can’t wait to go back! I would have posted a picture but I shoved them in my mouth too fast.

This was my first time visiting El Faro and I will be back! They advertise giant burritos, they are not just giant, but have giant flavor as well! Delicious food, fast, friendly service and very reasonable prices. Three of us ate for $ 20 bucks, including drinks. Definitely a winner!

This place has the best burrito in town. How can you beat $ 5 for a steak burrito that’s bigger than your appetite? Open 24 houts, fresh steak, moist pulled chicken, fresh avacado… need I say more? This is the best deal you will find in town. Get it with a horchata, and of course, add a chile rellano on it for a buck. Plenty of red and green sauce around to spice it up. In the early hours, breakfast burritos are to die for. Seriously, get in there !

It’s a landmark from my days of teen angst. I remember the first time I had ever heard of the«burrito». It was a hot summer day in 1990, and I was skating at Oak St beach with some friends. We were on summer vacation from high school. It had to be 100 degrees out that day. At the end of the day, one of my friends had mentioned there was a place on 61st and Archer that had a burrito to put all other burritos to shame. This greatness was at a place called El Faro. We packed in to a 1980 Oldsmobile and headed south. No air conditioning, six foul smelling teens, and a desire to find the burrito of our future. I remember walking in the door, and having a feeling that I would soon get to know this place well. From that day on, every time I walk in, I have that same excited feeling. Last night was no different, but it was actually better. Around 9:30, a friend and myself decided to pay a visit to our old favorite. Just expecting a great burrito as usual, and a fun trip down memory lane. We were pleasantly surprised to have each of those, and the added bonus of witnessing first hand at how well they operate. The people behind the counter are just as fantastic as the food they make. My hat is off to all of you at El Faro. You’re a great example of how hard work shines through. See you again in a few weeks. ;)

Hadn’t been here before and I was craving guacamole! I stopped in and ordered a steak burrito plate, along with chips and guac. The chips were nice and thin, unlike other authentic Mexican restaurants that make them thick and hard. The guac needed more salt, but it was very good once I added that. The burrito was as big as my head, and the steak was cooked perfectly. The rice and beans easily won me over. The rice was seasoned nicely and the beans were nice and creamy. And you can’t beat 24 hrs! Amazingly quick service too. Don’t know that I’d eat in… not the prettiest place for sure.

I have been here before a few times and never thought the beef tacos and tortas where really that great. Today, I tried something different. I ordered the same thing my dad ordered… A Burrito de Lengua! A tongue burrito. It was so so delicious. Just perfect flavor and texture. The orchata was just right. Great customer service. The young guys there are very attentive, nice, friendly and fast.

The burrito I got looked like it just swallowed another burrito. The thing was huge. It was $ 5.00 and I managed to make two meals out of it. I got the steak burrito, it was good. My wife got the 3 taco special. Also good. The Horchata had a little extra sweetness to it, which I like. I will be back again.
