I used Laurie for my haircuts in Canandaigua, NY over ten years ago. It was a pleasure to move to Summerville and have Laurie Premo living here and professional Barber Shop already set-up. I made contact and went for a haircut. The best haircut in Charleston(and I have had a lot of haircuts here for the past 4 years). Best Haircut in South Carolina and it is a steal for $ 12.

All the review are spot on. This was probably the best haircut I’ve ever gotten, to bad I’m from out of town. Clean, affordable and great atmosphere.

I tried this place based on a recommendation from Unilocal. It was clean the barber was very nice, and there wasn’t 30 people waiting like I usually find at Simmons on Saturday… The hair cut turned out just the way I like it. this is probably due to the fact that the barber asked me several questions prior to you starting the haircut. Haircut was only $ 12. More than reasonable considering that you can get scalped for twice the price right up the road… I keep coming here until they give me a reason to stop… I’ve been here a year and a half so far and in search of A permanent barbershop… We’ll see how it goes!

I went here after reading TJ L.‘s review and some of his other reviews that were on point. One of the hardest things to do in a new area is find a quality barber. I’ve moved all over the country and have the hardest time finding barber in each location(La, Va, Ca, Md). A few other places in the area have done a decent job, but none of them really spend any time looking at my head and figuring out how to cut it. I have difficult hair to cut(very thick and 8 cowlicks). Most barbers will ask what I like, seem to understand, then just cut the same thing not remotely close to what I want. The barber at Premo’s(I didn’t catch her name) is one of the best I’ve had so far, and my mother cut my hair for 25 years. She asked me how I wanted it, asked questions to make sure, then spent a few minutes explaining to me how she was going to do it. I felt confident from the start I would be able to leave not wearing a baseball cap, which is common and a sign to the wife that I had a bad barber experience. Plus, you always know they are legit barbers when they straight razor your neck and ears. Needless to say, Premo’s does a great job, and best part is it is far below the average cut of other places in the area.($ 12 vs. $ 16 – 20). This will definitely be my new barber shop.

So straying from my usual… in the way home I decided I needed a cut. Not feeling like the detour downtown, I did what any Unilocaler would do… I Unilocaled barbers. Premo’s came up on 17a, and after calling them to see if they did in fact do men’s cuts(let’s face it, «barber spa» can be about anything), I dropped in. A bit apprehensive from seeing all of the spa photos posted on Unilocal and their site, and the fact that it sits in a plaza with a gas station and liquor store(don’t let this deter you!), I was surprised. A very nicely decorated barber shop… very traditional looking(for modern barbershops), with a couple of barber chairs and all the stuff you should see(including Barbasol and Clubman powder). Enter Laurie. Laurie is great-cutting hair for 19 years(I think?). Very personable but is a New Yorker, so she’s motivated(or a «fast mover» if you are from the South). She did a great job of cleaning me up, and explained that shops have different lengths for blade numbers, so we chatted in inches instead of number 2, 3, 4, etc… She is extremely knowledgable about cutting and current products and trends. Straight razor on the ‘burns and neck too. While you wait, there is a TV and a Keurig for your caffeine fix. Oh, and there’s a spa in the back too. Checking in here gives an enticing coupon for a massage… As for damage, she accepts credit cards(so don’t worry about bringing cash), and the bill was a whopping $ 12. Amazing!
