The environment is «relaxed», the staff is extremely friendly, and food quality is nice. There are 2 main flaws though; quantity and price. I don’t feel like I got the value for my dollar.

While Taste is consistent in the quality of their meals, it’s nice to see that each location has its own identity and with visually different characteristics. Like what you would expect in Suffolk, lots of land and open spaces, this particular location is just like Suffolk, very open and spacious. It’s bright. It feels brand new. The lady ordered the Hilltop(turkey, provolone, and house dressing on French bread a she added avocado), which we ate on the road. It was a simple yet delicious sandwich. She even grabbed a few cookies for us that were soft and chewy. I did sample a couple of their gelato choices. Surprisingly, I didn’t care for the strawberry cheesecake but the banana split was good. Staff was very friendly and engaging with us. They were certainly pleasing to talk to. Given all that Taste has to offer, I can see why Unilocal Elites voted them as one of the top 10 places to eat in Hampton Roads.

Decided to give Taste a try after several friends raved about it. Great atmosphere and friendly staff were the only redeeming qualities. I ordered The Ghent and I don’t think I’ve ever had a more disappointing sandwich. The sandwich was bone dry — I felt like I needed a glass of water after each bite to help me swallow — and the chicken breast was flavorless and over-cooked. The bread itself was not that bad, but the ratio of bread to sandwich contents was way too high. Save your $ 8 and make a sandwich at home. I promise you it’ll have more«taste» than anything sold here.

Been to several of this chain. In every case… every one the sandwich was terrible. From a BLT to a chicken Sammy called the Ghent the only thing that was consistent was the overwhelming dryness and massive amount of bread. No moisture, no flavor, nothing but dryness. They should give you a glass of water for dipping but I suspect if you ordered it you would get a packet of powdered water. The bread is made of old aspirin bottle cotton and Kodak camera silica gel packets… really. I think they take all the moisture and pipe it to the local corner laundromat for injection in to that one dryer that runs forever but your clothes still come out damp. Won’t be back to this location.

This place is outstanding! Great food, if albeit pricey, and the staff is very warm and welcoming. This if my first trip to a Taste and I signed up for a rewards because I know this is about to become a habit. I got a BLT on whole grain with spicy mustard and a Greek salad with a sweet tea. It was definitely enough in size and the salad was very fresh. Tea was excellent too! Looking forward to coming back again.

So glad there is now a TASTE in the Suffolk area. I have been to this location a few times and every time I’ve gone it was great. The service was fast even though it was pretty busy(I went around 12:30). It’s always fun to look around the store while you wait to see the local products they have to offer. Today, I got the Peter’s Pick which is their weekly special. This special varies from week to week and comes with chips(any flavor of the small route 11 chips) and a drink for 8.99. Not a bad deal considering some of the sandwiches cost that much by themselves. I sampled the Tate’s ginger zinger gluten free cookies. They were yummy so I ended up purchasing those as well. I always leave full and satisfied.

The food is always wonderful and fresh. The new location has the most uncomfortable metal chairs I have ever sat in. Terrible choice for chairs. I think its a great location since the movie theater is just across the street, perfect for a quick bite before a movie.

Nothing like the other locations! I placed an order for a chicken salad on French bread and got a teaspoon size of chicken salad on the sandwich(see picture)! I am completely disappointed! I guess I will have to drive to the greenbriar location for adequate service. What a disappoint; have been a customer for 12 years.

I am so excited that a Taste opened here! I get to enjoy it every so often when I venture to Newport News but I crave the sandwiches and can’t get there. Now I can! I am a huge sandwich, salad, soup lover and this place is so fresh! From the sauces, dressings and breads to the freshest ingredients. I love the ambiance of this place! It’s clean and organized. It’s also a little market where you can buy containers of salads and snacks. Oh and wine for the winos. The customer service was wonderful too. Pleasant happy faces. Always a plus! I’ll be back again and again!

A local favorite for years is now in Suffolk! Best sandwiches and salads around. Try the sassy southern pimento cheese and the chick’s beach Cobb salad. Love that they have smartmouth beer on tap! Several varieties of fresh gelato to tempt your sweet tooth as well.

«If thou tastest a crust of bread, thou tastest all the stars and all the heavens.» –Robert Browning Sight. Smell. Hearing. Touch. And TASTE. We do not just use our sense of taste when we walk into a restaurant and enjoy a meal. All of our five senses are utilized when we explore our food and the atmosphere that surrounds us. That is definitely what happened when I arrived at TASTE Unlimited(TU) at Harbourview in North Suffolk the other day. While this is my first review for TU, this wasn’t my first experience with them; I have been to the Chesapeake location twice, once at Virginia Beach, and now twice at the new Suffolk store. Of course, I will write about this particular location, but all of TU’s stores have the same concept throughout. The original store was Hilltop West in Virginia Beach back in 1973 – even older than me! Sight. The Suffolk location is huge and open. The second your eyes look around, you see immensely tall ceilings and windows; industrial décor; friendly faces at the counter waiting to help; and shelves full of enticing specialty items. Just the sight of TU makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. Smell. What is the most important thing when you first walk into a restaurant? Perhaps it is the smell. Freshly baked bread is one of the best aromas in the world and TU makes their own French bread right there in the shop. Their homemade gelato also made its way to my nose. Yummy! Hearing. The one negative about TU is that those very tall ceilings can make for lots of loud noise. The day that I ate my lunch inside wasn’t even that busy, but it was still a cacophony of people, metal chairs, and business being conducted. If the weather is decent, I would recommend eating outside at the tables. Touch. Touch is foreplay before the big moment. I love the white paper TU uses to wrap around the sandwiches, and label them. The feel of unwrapping the packaging, picking up the bread to see what is inside, moving around the tomato or the avocado to make sure it’s perfect – it’s all part of the process. TASTE. While all five senses are important, TASTE is the one that gives us such pleasure. My first bite of the Northender sandwich was a satisfying balance of heavenly deliciousness. Their homemade French bread was mostly soft, but had some crusty parts, too. The slightly sweet honey smoked turkey, with the nice salty hardwood bacon that gave a bit of a crunch – combined with creamy Havarti, fresh tomato, romaine, basil mayo and that ever-loving avocado. Perfecto. I am so glad that TU decided to add Suffolk to their family. While their prices are a bit high, quality ingredients and local foods are the key. Welcome to the neighborhood, TU!

The ingredients are wonderful, the prices are insanely high! I had the peters pick. For 8.99 you get whatever the sandwhich of the week is, the week I got mine is was Roast Beef, Horeseradish Cheddar Spread and Romaine on Brioch. You also get small chips and a regular drink(up to 1.99). The roast beef was good, the horseradish tasted like pimento cheese. I love tastes pimento cheese but its not what I expected when I read horseradish cheddar spread, there was absolutely no kick as normal horseradish spreads have and was too sweet, definitely a disappointment. The Brioche was good, but seemed hard, not stale, but like it was taken out of the freezer and microwaved to soften it. I think 8.99 is too expensive for this small lunch. For 9 dollars(over 10 once you add taxes) I expect a larger sandwich, maybe a cookie, just something else. Luckily I had $ 5 in rewards so it brought the price down to make it a little more affordable. On a side note, they need to figure out a different system for ordering and checking out, it would have been beneficial to put it on the opposite side near the gelato maybe. There are no true lines set up to order and check out and people tend to mash up in the front. I think it would have been better to be able to pay right after you order that what you are not having to go through a maze of people just to pay and pick up your order.

I’m glad to see that this place is finally open. I’d drive past this location every once in a while to see how far along they were. I checked my Unilocal app and it told me that they were open so are went in.(Shameless plug) I walked in the first noticed how clean this place was. They lay out is very spacious. To give you an idea think a mini whole foods. That’s the king of vibe I got when walking inside. The have outdoor and indoor seating as well. The service was good. The staff were all smiling and friendly. That goes a long way with me. Good food and bad service will not get any repeat service from me. This place has good food and good service. The food is fresh and has a very clean taste(see what I did there). I had a club sandwich with a small cob salad. I also got a bag of chips with a soda. See pics. While the food is pricy I don’t mind it to much. Fresh food is going to cost you. I also got my reward card. We’ll see how that goes. I’ll be back

Solid 4.5 Just left this place. As expected, taste never disappoints. I have yet to have a bad meal at any of their facilities. This facility just opened yesterday and it’s pretty big. The seating is substantial both inside and out. The décor on the inside lends itself to be very friendly and has a great feel overall. The outside seating is exciting to me. We have always liked Taste(particularly the VB location) b/c of their dog policy. Since they have an outdoor area, we can totally see us coming here many, many times over. As mentioned, the food — on point, very good and honestly, we expected nothing less. It is a high bar to set, but fortunately, they always meet it. The staff was super friendly and I liked the fact that they are dabbling a bit in some of the local craft beers. I honestly wish they could do a few more but that’s just the beer geek inside of me saying yay to beer! The only thing that makes me say a solid 4.5 was the speed of the service. HOWEVER, to be completely fair, this is only their second day open. To expect them to run like some of their flagship stores is rather unrealistic. I’m sure that next time we come, everything will shape up accordingly. Love this place. so excited that they’re so close to us! Thank you!!!
