I like this place. I used to LOVE it, but recent increases in prices, changes to their happy hour, and less-than– stellar parking situation has made this place less amazing than it used to be. The fish is good– fresh enough. They do have a HUGE menu of rolls and combo plates so there is a lot of variety. They seem to cater to more americanized sushi eaters with sports constantly on the tv, loud pop music and a menu featuring many rolls«deep fried» or with cream cheese and jalepenos– not my cup of tea but i can understand wanting to be accessible to a wider range of clients. Personally i miss the more authentic sushi dan.

A little on the pricey side but pretty good rolls and nice vibe/atmosphere. We ordered a few different rolls. And I agree with some of the other reviewers who said that the quality isn’t the highest… we ordered one of the eel rolls and you could taste the«fishy-ness» of the fish which of course is the first tell-tale sign of not being fresh. But hey, it wasn’t horrible. The spicy cruncy tuna roll was great. We also ordered a Lychee sake… AWESOME. But again, WAAAAAY overpriced. But it was good, and it was a fun Friday night!

Well, the two stars are only for the nice waitress I had durning dinner. Slade, came to our table while I was eating and grabbed the napkin under my plate and said«well all set» and walked back to our waitress and had her bring us our check. I will not be back here. Food was very mediocre. The restaurant is completely empty so I do not understand the rude behavior.

Honestly, I thought it was over priced. The quality was, eh. It was really dark too. I ordered a few things that didn’t show up. The only reason we walked in here was because it was next to the tattoo shop we were at. I’ve had better sushi, to say the least, and I think the coolest part about that sushi spot was the autographed Zordon headshot on the wall which is honestly worth walking in here. I want to give this place 3.5 stars but I am being generous with rounding it to 4. The .05 star was for the Zordon headshot. Parking is easy, btw.

This place is not authentic sushi– very commercialized and pricey. As a big sushi fan– and understand«real» sushi– this was major disappointment– I should have researched better.

The food is okay, the service isn’t worth the seaweed the sushi is rolled on. Completely explained the menu incorrectly and we even asked. The lunch menu is designed by fools.

Great sushi stop. The paparrazi roll was soo delicious. Lots of avocado and the sauce is soo tasty. Large portions of salmon on the salmon dish. Definitely will be back. Quick friendly service too.

Sushi Dan is a great spot to get reasonably priced lunch. Although it isn’t the highest quality of sushi restaurants, it is a good solid spot if you want some rolls and basic nigiri. We came in around 12, and my friend recommended the lunch special as it is only $ 13 – 15 and comes with either a gyoza, 5 set nigiri, tempura, and choice of your roll. Of course, it is a must to get the nigiri to get your money’s worth and have a wider variety of sushi! For the roll, I got the baked scallop on california roll, and my friend got the salmon scallop roll. The baked roll was humongous as they really heap the scallops on, and we could not finish everything. Both rolls were made well and tasted good, and I enjoyed it. The nigiri I had came with tuna, albacore, white fish, and two salmons. The nigiri was fresh and cut well, no complaints there. If you’re looking for a quick lunch spot around the area, Sushi Dan is a great choice as the lunch specials are cheap and the sushi is fresh. They have a great variety of rolls available, and I had a hard time picking what I wanted to eat. Will be back again.

The chefs are awesome! Last night, my friends and I set at the bar for the first time. My salmon sashimi was so fresh and the live shrimp amazing! Thank you chefs, I had an awesome time !

Solid sushi place, and a good option if you are staying in Universal City. The first time I came I was happy with my order(the All Star roll), although they were a bit heavy with the sauces. The second time I got Salmon’s Companies(another specialty roll), and when it came out I couldn’t even see the sushi because it was completely covered in tempura flakes. Now, it mentions in the menu that it is topped with tempura flakes. However, it neglects to mention it is DROWNED in flakes. I couldn’t even brush off the majority of the flakes because there were so many, and it ruined the roll. If I ever find myself in studio city I will likely come back to Sushi Dan, but I will definitely avoid the Salmon’s Companies.

I wish I could write a review of all the places that I’ve visited because a handful of them, really deserves to be recognized for their great service, like take Sushi Dan for example where I really enjoyed my time here. I especially want to give a big thanks to all the staff at Sushi Dan. You guys are all rock stars in my book. My hats off to y’all! Did I mentioned Sushi Dan have really good drinks especially their cold sake? Of course… you knew that already! Their sushi rolls here were really good too, but their sashimi platter was also quite tasty, surprisingly because… our group were not sure after seeing the ambiance… kinda reminded us of being back in the college days, going out to a nearby sushi house right on campus! But, like a wise«ONE» said, «Never judge a book by its cover!» Amen… and there you have it folks… If you are looking to dine in for sushi, and you happen to be in North Hollywood/Studio City… and you want a bit of a college feel and a cool quirkiness ambiance with great food and great staff with smiles… I suggest you pay a visit to Sushi Dan!!! Oh… and don’t forget to buy your shirt on your way out… that says… «Sushi Dan — Rockin’ Sushi! Just sayin! Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

So, this used to be my go to for spicy tuna roll. They were cheap and pretty delicious,(the rest of their sushi is eh) Returned for the second time and it was horrible, it took us like 25 min to get attended and our small rolls we ordered were taking past 45 minutes. WEWERETHEONLYONESTHERE minus the party of 4 which had already received their food. We waited and received hot sushi. Forgot about this experience, returned yet again, and same thing happened. Not kidding, almost identical. NOTWORTHYOURTIME.

I really liked this spot. My friend picked this place and I thought 3.5 stars… Ummmm no. But he was right. It was a great time! When you’re with good company. I think that makes all the difference… But, the sushi options were good. The drink selection was typical Japanese, the servers were on it, and the ambiance was perf … Will definitely be returning…

This is the absolute WORSTSERVICE I have ever had. I am very easy going because I understand being a waiter isn’t easy but this was just a sloppy restaurant all together. We arrived at 7pm pretty hungry. My friends ordered and I got an appetizer for us to start while I decided my dinner. Our waters came 10 minutes after ordering because we asked for them. I was ready to order and for some reason a different waiter took the rest of my order, but I assumed he would give it to our waitress. We got the appetizer and it tasted fine. Around 8pm we all started getting fussy because the restaurant wasn’t busy and we saw two tables receive their food before us. I complained to our waiter that we need our food soon. She came back and said«I accidentally forgot to put your tab in, so they are making it right now for you»… At 8:30 we couldn’t handle how hungry we were so I walked to the bar and told the chef myself that we need whatever they have ready. We just want to eat it has been an hour and a half! They tell me they have our order waiting for the waitress she just needs to give it to us. We are out of water, no refills when we get our meal. They came with 4 plates and one of the rolls were wrong. We corrected it and they brought us another roll for my friend. It was wrong too. After the 3rd try they bring the right roll and it is now 8:50. The sushi itself was nothing special and definitely not worth the price paid. We receive the bill and they added another sushi roll to our bill that we did not eat nor order! I was furious. They did not comp anything for their mess up or try and fix the situation. The waiters were all over the place. I talked to 5 different waiters not knowing which one was ours. DONOTCOMEHERE.

Very sorry to say… have been coming here for years but time to go elsewhere. I don’t know what went wrong. The service is not bad but not very attentive or friendly. It is really pricey and everything seems soaked in some sweet sauce. The raw fish is best but small portions. As well, this place is so loud. No intimate conversations here. There are so many Sushi bars along Ventura. Time to venture out.

Meh. First off, it’s WAYTOOOOOLOUD!!! If you’re looking to have a business lunch, this is the wrong place, but with friends you can shout at, it’s okay. Second, there are just too many menus… four today. Having options is great but this gets annoying, going from page to page to try to line-up what special goes with which description from another page later in the menu. The prices on the specials are fair but their prices on the«non-special» rolls, they’re way out over their skis on those. They’re as much as Katsuya on some, which is insane. The sushi is pretty good but not amazing. I’ve gotten the occasional rubbery salmon here… but in general, it’s usually fresh, but there’s no real inspiration behind the rolls. Parking around lunchtime is a nightmare… if you’re planning to meet someone, plan in advance.

Met a friend here one night after work, on his recommendation. It’s definitely a hot spot. Very loud inside, so if you want a quiet meal this ain’t the place. We were a bit rushed by the staff because apparently they were going to close in an hour. That sounds like plenty of time to eat a meal, but they kinda made us feel like we had to hurry up and eat. Not all that cool. We ordered a couple of rolls and some nigiri sushi. All of it was good, nothing spectacular. I agree with other reviewers that the staff just wasn’t all that friendly. It felt, to me, like customers were more of an annoyance.
